          Unique and Phenomenal
Wow! This tour was so much better than expected. Truly unique and phenomenal! Where do I begin? First, my wife wasn't sure if this tour is for us, because some of us are prone to motion sickness and the tour is long and not cheap. I came out on top, and boy, what a bonanza! Nobody got sick or was left disappointed, quite the opposite. Desert, Dunes and Dust Tours picked us up in Swakopmund, which was a big bonus. Johann was our guide for the Sandwich Habour Tour and he was truely awesome. A real character, yet an excellent driver, knowledgably entertaining and very charming. Our first stop was the actual Walvis Bay where we watched flamingos in their hundreds. Then the tires were depressurized and the real adventure began. We passed the saltworks and proceeded onto the dunes. It is hard to describe just how awesome and impressive the tour with Johann was. The whole experience of driving through an area were dunes meet the ocean is beyond words. The provided picnic was also suprisingly delicious. In the afternoon Volker took over for the kayaking. The kayaking with Volker was great, but as the winds caught up in the afternoon (as they often do), it became increasingly strenuous. It was quite an experience to be in the middle of a seal colony, unique and special. This combo tour was strikingly impressive, yet it being a combo tour mad it a bit rushed. In a hindsight I would recommend a full day Sandwich Harbour Tour and a seperate Seal Kayaking Tour on another day.

Unforgettable dunes tour with Dennis / Sandwich Harbour, Swakopmund
An unforgettable morning that Dennis, the best driver ever, gave us in the dunes of Swakopmund. It was an exciting adventure for all of us to find out a lot of information and interesting facts from Dennis. If you want to experience the dunes of Swakopmund, ask for Dennis!!!! Thank you Dennis!!!

          Excellently planned and executed tour
The tour was absolute fun. Our guide Dennis was an excellent at driving us on the dunes, giving us a taste of adventure Dube driving, spotting secret locations with less people for iconic pictures. He was very Thu knowledgeable about Namibia and South Africa and shared a wealth of information about the history, about the dunes, seal colonies, salt mining, flamingos and much more. He organized tasteful lunch and drinks for us at a beautiful spot on the beach and gave us time to explore. Dennis picked us up right in front of our camp site, we started our trip with some coffee and Dennis picked up lunch for us and headed to the place with flamingos. We learned from our guide about the colors of flamingos based on the food they eat(algae and shellfish), we then drove in to the 9km stretch of dunes in the Namib desert, saw seals (also seals and dolphins that washed ashore and died because of being left behind the pack/getting lost), we then had lunch at the sandwich harbor, and went up dune dashing to the view point of the harbor. We were also shown the location where the last few minutes of Dune 2 was filmed, as an extra(not part of the trip) we also got to visit the seal colony and watch baby seals. All in all a thoroughly planned trip with a Super entertaining, very insightful and knowledgeable guide. Dennis also gave us suggestions on places, restaurants and bars to visit. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our day safari tour in Swakopmund thanks to Dennis.

4x4 self drive Sandwich Harbour - Dennis is your man!
We just came back from the best day trip to sandwich harbour, a fantastic half day spent with Dennis exploring Namibias gems. Dennis made the trip an absolute delight - not only was he a fun, highly experienced driver, he also brought the group together and even our 4 year old had a blast. If you’re thinking about a self drive or tour through Sandwich Harbour, Dennis is your man. You don’t meet guides with such genuine passion for their job, such skill and heartwarming personalities often!

Best Adventure ever! We had so much fun with the guides, they are all such cool dudes. We have been the only selfdrivers and the guides have been very helpful and relaxed. We had great lunch at the beach and the whole day was really easy going with lots of adventure. We dont know Uwe but we can recommend to ask for Winton or Willem!

          Best tour of my life!!
Fu…king Hell!!! This was the most amazing place I visited in my life!!! Nothing gets even close to the magic of Sandwich Harbour. The dunes, the complete solitude and the ocean coming together. Out of this world experience. Uwe was the most amazing tour guide making us all feel safe but also gave us that adrenaline rush having fun on the 100m dunes! Could not recommend this more - priceless!!!!

Amazing and unforgettable experience and Andrew was the best guide showing us the seal colony by kayak , so knowledgeable answering all our questions and bringing close up so we could see all the babies . Would highly highly recommend this tour and combined with the sandwich harbour tour of the Sand dunes with an amazing lunch at the top of a sand dune overlooking the Atlantic Ocean .

Our guide, Stephan, was on time, very informative, and professional. You don’t need to know much about kayaking to take this tour. We had a wonderful time with him. There was only one other couple with us so it was not a huge gang of people. We highly recommend it.

Wonderful 4X4 Desert drive in Namibia
Our driver was Dennis (The Menace), and he was a great driver and very knowledgeable about the area. He also had a great sense of humor! We are a couple from Seattle, and we were with a nice lady from Switzerland, and a fun gentleman from the UK. We definitely laughed A lot!! We started viewing the flamingos that were beautiful up close. We drove a bit and viewed the moonscape, which was Amazing, and then drove to the Oasis for a nice lunch. We also saw a very old desert plant, Welwitschia Mirabilis which was really something to see, and Dennis played the musical rocks…Very Cool! The drive along the coast back to ship was beautiful! We loved Namibia and this tour! Would like to come back for a longer visit. It was the most ENJOYABLE tour of our 27 day cruise. Thanks so much, Cathleen and Joe Hastings cayennecath@hotmail.com

If you're in Swakopmund, this tour is an absolute must!
Our experience with Desert Dunes and Dust Tours on the Seals and Sandwich Harbour Dune Drive was nothing short of spectacular! From start to finish, it was an incredible journey blending stunning landscapes, fascinating wildlife, and heart-pumping adventure. We where lucky to go with Uwe. Throughout the tour, Uwe was friendly, professional, and deeply passionate about the region. He shared stories about the history, geology, and wildlife of this unique area, making the tour educational as well as adventurous. The transition from the coast to the towering dunes of Sandwich Harbour was breathtaking. The sheer size and beauty of the dunes meeting the Atlantic Ocean felt surreal. Driving through the dunes was exhilarating. Uwe navigated with impressive skill, and the thrilling ascents and descents had us cheering with excitement. The photo opportunities were endless, from vast, untouched sandscapes to panoramic views of the lagoon and coastline. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, like the refreshments and meal provided, which gave us a moment to soak in the scenery and reflect on the beauty of Namibia. If you're in Swakopmund, this tour is an absolute must! It’s an unforgettable way to experience the wild and stunning contrasts of Namibia’s coastal desert. We couldn’t recommend it more highly! Thank you, Desert Dunes and Dust Tours, for such an amazing adventure we’ll treasure these memories forever.

As a family of two kids (8 & 11 yrs) and two adults we enjoyed an unforgettable day with Uwe -a fantastic, knowledgeable, patient and extreme sympathetic guide - in Sandwich Harbour! Uwe speaks perfectly English, German and Afrikaans.

We reserved few weeks prior to our excursion the private tour in his green Toyota Landcruise. Trip was not inexpensive, still substantially cheaper than booking it on our cruise liner AIDA. On top it was scheduled two hours longer (full day trip) and included lunch.

Communication via email was very enjoyable and informative! It took quite some mails until we made our choice out of various attractive tour options.

We met various animals (seal, ostrich, jackal), tasted fresh shells from the sea and pumped drink water in the desert.
We walked down dunes being > 80 meters high and enjoyed nice lunch at Sandwich Harbour Bay along with ice cold sodas and beers ;-)

THANK you Uwe for this unforgettable day!!!

After Uwe picked us up, earlier than scheduled to beat the tides, and explaining the necessary Covid and safety precautions, the first question that he asked us was “Why have chosen this tour”? We explained that we just spent five days at Sesriem because of our love for desert scenery but that this tour was the only chance we would have of actually driving on the iconic dunes of Namibia. From that moment Uwe tailored the outing and walked the extra mile to give us exactly that experience.

As a guide Uwe is exceptionally knowledgeable about the history of the area and of Namibia, the geology and fauna & flora of the area, and of course the dunes. One gets the impression that he knows every single dune. During the day he spotted a jackal, springboks, oryxes and plenty of uncommon bird species. If you are a keen photographer (like myself) there is no limit on the number of times that he will stop or maneuver the vehicle to give you the best shot. Best of all he knows were good photographers want to go and may make a few suggestions.

As a driver Uwe clearly has plenty of experience, even my wife who is normally a nervous back-seat driver (shame on you for thinking that is due to my driving) later said to me that she immediately sensed that Uwe knows what he is doing and that the outing would have a happy ending.

As a person Uwe is a delight to meet and spend time with.

Thanks Uwe for and unforgettable day and exceeding our expectations.

Visited Swakopmund recently and booked a tour with Uwe from Desert Dunes & Dust tours. What a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Uwe's knowledge of the area was fantastic. A character of note with a great sense of humour. He and 'Everlasting' his 4x4 which we dubbed the Green Mamba took us on a fantastic tour and we had much fun going up and down the incredible Dunes at Sandwich Harbour.
A day I will certainly remember for a long time to come.
Highly recommend this tour with Uwe.

We were picked up from our accommodation in Swakopmund punctually. However, from this point things deteriorated. It immediately became apparent Uwe had a booking issue with an agent. We set off to Walvis Bay, with Uwe receiving and making repeated phone calls, which involved Uwe having heated discussions to resolve a booking problem. Uwe was on his mobile NOT a hands free system while driving, including while over taking at considerable speed on the main road to Walvis Bay. This is not a safe way to drive and was stressful for us all. When we arrived at Walvis Bay, Uwe suggested we have a coffee. We agreed and stated we did not wish to continue our tour until the issue was resolved as it was stressful to listen to, and because driving while on a mobile was not safe. An hour later, and long after other cars in the group left, we departed.

We were not able to reach Sandwich Harbour via the beach due to spring tides and recent storms. This wasn't very clearly explained until we were looking at Sandwich Harbour from the top of a dune about 1km away. I had thought you could reach Sandwich Harbour via the dunes, but Uwe said not.

We returned via the dunes and Kuisib delta. We learnt Uwe didn't have a concession for driving through this area, fees from which go to the local indigenous population. It seemed various Sandwich Harbour tours take this route when other access isn't possible, but without paying the concession fees. This was all rather confusing. Given this is a concession area which requires funds to support it, we were concerned about this approach. Plus our booking form clearly stated all parks fees were included.

On a positive note, Uwe had extraordinary skills at spotting animals, and good local knowledge. The dune driving was a great fun, if a little hair-raising at times (but that's the point).

Overall I was left disappointed. I had hoped to reach Sandwich Harbour and see the birdlife there, rather than look at it from afar. While storms and tides can't be helped, I was left wondering if we hadn't had the delayed start we would have made it? Uwe said no one made it that day. However, after the approach to driving safety and not paying concessions fees, I wasn't sure what to believe as everything felt a somewhat awkward and uncomfortable.

Thank you for your review and your concerns. I apologize for the problems along the road. You came in peak season and we had 8 cars out that day together with a spring tide which had been raging for some time. We also had a 4m swell and world championship Surfing competition in Walvisbay in that week. I'm sorry for the conversations we had, with the agent, never had the problem before, and not since again. Low tide was at 06h00 in the morning and we collected you at 07h30. We normally only get to the entry of Sandwich harbour at about 10h30, which would also have been 4 hours after low tide . With the stop at Walvisbay we lost probably 20 minutes, on our normal stop time, as we collect the food here and also let the air out of tyres, whilst clients can have a coffee and use the toilet before heading out into the dunes. Entry into Sandwich Harbor was impossible the entire week. Your disappointment in not seeing Sandwich can be expected. I'm sure you saw the tracks and the other cars that were coming out of the dunes and could see nobody else had gone in to the bay as the sea was raging 3m waves against the dunes and entry was impossible. One has to be able to go in and come out for which we need about 2 hours. In fact i think in the whole of August we only entered Sandwich harbour about 10 days, because of the stormy sea. This phenomena is still continuing in September as the Blue Moon, is seen, it is bigger than normal and thus closer to earth , therefore affecting the tides. Sandwich harbour itself has very few birds these last couple of years , since the man made lagune was built, in Walvisbay and the birds that used to be there are in the Lagune south of Sandwich harbour to which we have no access and to far to see from the view point. The sea water was breaking over the beach and running into the salt pan. Something we normally see maybe twice a year, This year we have seen it 5 times so far. So it was near impossible and very dangerous to drive on the beach. The Kuiseb delta Concession is very clear that non permit holders may only use the concession if it is impossible to drive the normal route and as an emergency only. So we were allowed to use the road as safety is of importance, You also saw we spoke to the oncoming traffic and there was no problem with us being there. In another situation any of the oncoming traffic , who work for the concession holder, would have been in a position to write out a fine, which they did not do. Further more the concession is up for renewal so currently not enforced. We did not know before arriving at Sandwich that we would need another route. We retain the right to change our route for safety purposes. Concerning using the concession area we were totally correct in what we told you. Concerning the dune drive , we asked you a number of times if you were ok with dune driving and that going to some view points will be more extreme than usual. We also went out of our way to go to the best spot we can which is closest to Sandwich bay. You saw few cars there as most don't even go that far on a difficult day. Knowing the disappointment for not entering we try at least to make it up the best we can and that entails a bit of a dune drive. We thank you for pointing out our mistakes and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It also gives us a chance to clear misconceptions and explain safety scenarios and routes. we thank you for your Namibia visit and wish safe travels. NB .Although we don't cancel tours ON ACCOUNT OF RAIN as it NEVER Rains here, But even today and tomorrow we will only go to Sandwich in the morning, as the swell is high again and we are expecting 5m waves. If entry is to dangerous we will not enter. This unfortunately is Nature and safety prevails. Trust this explains this unique and beautiful area.

We spent a fabulous day with Uwe and had so much fun and can only recommend this tour and guide 😊 Uwe took us on an adventure through the dunes and one got immediately caught by the good humor, and appreciation for the unique landscape. Beyond the dune driving experience we also learnt about wildlife in the desert in this unique area between dunes and ocean. We would love to repeat this trip one day as it was simply unforgettable. Thank you, Uwe, for the extra time taken and stay well! Franziska

We drove with Hans, an outstanding guide, along the coast and through the dunes to Sandwich Harbor. But it was far more than dunes and sea. Hans knowledge of the ecology of the area and historical references to the native San people was much appreciated. He was always on the lookout for wildlife in an area where you wouldn’t expect any and we saw jackal, oryx, steenbok, a huge cricket but we didn’t see ostrich or hyena which he said are there, too. He is an expert driver of the dunes and we were up and down some very steep inclines to get to the tops for amazing views of both dunes and shoreline. This was one of the best half day trips we have taken and we highly recommend it!

Thank you Uwe for an incredibly enjoyable day. The scenery was unbeatable. 4 x 4 ing on the dunes was so much fun, especially with such a competant driver as yourself - we could just sit back and take in the amazing scenery. Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge. Once in a lifetime experience.

We had an extraordinary day and a fantastic tour that we can only recommend to anyone.
Starting with the punctual pickup at the Guesthouse through a very good-humored Uwe, via the drive to the dunes and through to Sandwich Harbour. The ride was very entertaining and educational, Uwe told us a lot about the dunes, Walvisbay's salt mine, the flora and fauna in the area and the history of Swakopmund.
He and the second driver in the other vehicle drove us very safely through the steep dunes, put in enough photo tops and prepared a very delicious lunch. Thanks Uwe for the great trip today and goodbye!

We did the tour with Uwe in the afternoon and would recommend this - in the morning it is often foggy. We were picked up at the hotel and after a short stop we went to the beach and into the dunes. Exciting, challenging, entertaining and impressive - Uwe drove up and down dunes with us (50% gradient, 55 m dune), but also stopped at all places worth seeing - or those we thought were worth seeing. In between there was a refreshment - this is what a perfect trip looks like!
