- Sailboat Charter Disclaimer - Please read before booking!!! A vacation on a sailboat charter can be the experience of a lifetime and give you unforgettable memories. In order to properly prepare you for your trip and align expectations, please take some time to read each point below. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of them, we will gladly answer any of them. All Sailboat Charters in San Blas are hosted on privately owned sailboats. Please be aware that the Captain and crew will be welcoming you into their home and that they will share their island lifestyle with you. A sailboat charter is not a hotel resort experience that has waiters and staff. Please be respectful towards the Captain and his Crew. Always follow Captain’s orders! For your safety and the safety of the boat, please adhere to the instructions of the Captain and Crew. Fresh Water - Sailboats carry only a limited amount of fresh water with them. Please be aware of your water consumption when taking showers. Bathrooms - Sailboat bathrooms have marine toilets that function differently than the toilets you are used to from home. Please follow the instructions given by the Captain on how to use them and DO NOT flush any paper into the toilet. Wifi and Cell-phone coverage - The islands of San Blas are located in a remote area. While some islands may receive cell phone signal, others may not have any. Cell phone signal even in the “good coverage” areas can often be unreliable. If you need to stay connected, please inform us and your Captain in order for us to plan the itinerary accordingly. We recommend that you purchase pre-paid phone cards with Tigo and Digicel, which will provide you with the necessary wifi and cell coverage. Dietary Restrictions - Please inform us as soon as possible, if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies. Sailboat charters generally serve lots of fresh seafood. Luggage - Sailboats have limited space available and cabins are generally very small. Please pack lightly and avoid bringing rigid suitcases. You won’t need much in San Blas. If you travel with lots of luggage, most hotels in Panama City will gladly store it until you return from your trip. What to bring - bathing suits, bio degradable sunscreen, insect repellant, hat, sunglasses, extra cash for souvenirs. Sailboat itinerary - We suggest a minimum of 3 nights for each sailboat charter in order to explore different islands and areas. We recommend to book 4 nights, if you would like to visit the remote Holandes Cays. Itineraries ultimately depend on weather and ocean conditions and are determined by the Captain. Transportation to the sailboat - We will arrange your roundtrip transportation, which is in a shared 4x4 SUV (one guest up front, three guests in the middle row and two guests in the back row) and a shared Lancha boat. Car transportation - the ride to San Blas takes 2.5 to 3 hours, with 1.5 hours over slow, curvy roads with potholes. For those with motion sickness, please prepare accordingly Boat transportation - depending on weather and ocean conditions, the 30-45 minute boat ride might be bumpy and wet with ocean spray. Lanchas are very basic speedboats and operated by Kunas. Do not expect any luxury transportation. We kindly ask our guests to visit San Blas with an open mind and to focus on the beautiful paradise that San Blas has remained despite the effects that modern society. The Kunas are very gentle and kind people, but can also be somewhat shy at times. When approaching them with a smile and an open heart you will be guaranteed an innocent, happy smile in return.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- V7373OSjohns0 contributionsGreat tour!Eduardo is a fantastic guide. He picked us up on time and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of our tour. We highly recommend him for your next visit!Written 22 January 2025
- Sirenashaina0 contributionsExcellent Monkey and Sloth tourThis trip informative about Panama and the animals. We saw 4 different types of monkeys on the tour! Our guides were good about getting us in positions to see them. The sloth sanctuary was wonderful. The only way to see sloths up close.Written 22 January 2025
- sydtayscott0 contributionsFun times! We did the tour on a Monday morning. We left the hotel around 8am in Panama City. The boat ride was a fun adventure to the waterfall. You will have to walk on rocks to get to the waterfalll. I suggest water shoes to avoid slipping. Also If you have mobility problems this could be an issue. You must step up onto rocks. There are ropes on the wall to hold onto but if you are an elder this could be problematic. Also I suggest don’t bring any large bags. You need something you can strap to you. It is a great photo op and a good time. Next you go to the village. The village is informative and interactive. They will feed you fish and tostones along with fruit. It is delicious. You will also have an opportunity to buy items. On another note they will have you dance with them. Don’t be alarmed. It is fun and a basic two step. It is a nice outing.Written 21 January 2025
- Yogesh N0 contributionsMemorable cultural experience. We enjoyed the visit to the waterfalls and the Embera people and learned so much about their community and history. Our guide Daniel was very knowledgeable about the Embera and made our visit interesting and memorable! Kudos to Daniel and his assistant David .Written 19 January 2025
- PuenteLago0 contributionsHorrible experienceThe ground transportation was pretty good but the day was horrible! (Rainy cloudy and cool ) Talking with someone from the isles the weather was horrible the last three days, and Tao did not cancel the day trip, even knowing that. I felt cheated. We did not enjoy at all the experience. I hope nobody buy in advance as me the tour.Written 15 January 2025
- Getaway254126603570 contributionsRecommended TourAll activities were great and well chosen. The boat was always on time for pick-up. The boat driver, who was also the guide, was open and friendly. When we didn’t see any sloths in the mangrove forest, we were taken to another spot where some could be seen. However, don’t expect detailed explanations about the animals or activities here. All in all, it was a lovely day with many wonderful impressions.Written 14 January 2025
- bradleysL6007SA0 contributionsGood timeThis tour was exactly what was advertised. We saw sloths, starfish and got to snorkel and swim at beautiful beaches. We also stopped for lunch and it was pretty decent. The local guides spoke both English and Spanish well and there was good communication before the trip (Where to meet, what to bring, where to buy the tickets for the island we went too). Overall it was a good experience and we got dropped off at the end right at a dock next to our hotel in bocas. Support local, Make sure to bring cash to tip the guides: it’s their job and they do it well!Written 13 January 2025
- lovisat350 contributionsLovely experienceWe loves this trip! Everything was amazing, however the communication was probably not the best. A lot of times we didn’t know what was happening or what we should do but besides that everything was great.Written 11 January 2025
- ScottF17320 contributionsThis is a “Must Do” tour when visiting PanamáThis was an AMAZING DAY & we loved the tour. Most importantly, DON’T be dissuaded by reviews that complain about the drive from the city to the port. Is it long - yes, but you get to see a lot of the countryside/rainforest and it’s an opportunity to talk with your driver Juan was so awesome - we connected the day prior via WhatsApp (make sure to give them your number when you confirm) and really made the day great, also, don’t be dissuaded by the windy road … yes, it’s like a roller coaster at times, but the drivers do this every day & it was fascinating! There is a stop at a gas station before the windy part for restrooms & snacks. The history & info about the Guna people and the Guna Yala was really interesting. The transition to our boat and Guna guide for the day was smooth. The islands were amazing … we stopped on 3 and also at the “Natural Pool” which is a shallow area where people could snorkel, enjoy the super clear water! Time at each island was really well thought out … 1 to 1.5 hrs at each and the meal (fried fish or chicken or I think a veg option) was good. This was an amazing day … just do it!Written 5 January 2025
- Thomas P0 contributionsMonkeytastic tourHad a great tour last Saturday. Saw 3 different types of monkeys. Saw sloths. Saw Iguanas. Before we got to the canal, we went to a store and had very flavorful fruit.Written 4 January 2025
- Airen C0 contributions⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This was an amazing excursion, a semi private tour averaging between 11-12 hours. Ana Lorena was amazing, knowledgable, and passionate. All of the tour was excellent, but the highlight for my group was swiming in the natural pool within the mangroves. Overall this was an excellent way to explore Colon and the surrounding areas.Written 26 December 2024
- mercedese2780 contributionsGreat experience!Nice experience! The water is beautiful and we were able to see the different islands. Even though the trip is long and the roads are very curvy, it is worth it and our driver Javier did a good job.Written 18 December 2024
- CollegePrep0 contributionsExcellent Cultural ExperienceThis was a fabulous cultural experience! The lake and indigenous people are beautiful. We lunched on fresh fish they caught and prepared for us and a delicious array of fresh fruits. Twenty five families live in the village. We learned about their culture and survival.Written 15 December 2024
- 880richp0 contributionsAmazing Restaurant and ResortWe stopped for drinks and a snack after a tour to Monkey Island. WOW !!!! Amazing view and location and facilities, (and really good food) and we think our son and his fiancé should come get married here !!!Written 15 December 2024
- Jess W0 contributionsI recommend this tour :)I was only here for a weekend, so I wanted to make the most of my time. I was able to see a lot of wildlife today. Also, the guide made the tour really interesting and fun.Written 14 December 2024

Mike and Paola are beautiful souls. They were able to accommodate me fairly last minute on their boat. I took a solo trip to Panama and spent two nights sailing the San Blas islands with them. They cooked amazing meals and were extremely informative about the islands. We had several insightful conversations and connected on a deep level. I am very thankful to have met them and hope to see them again in the near future. If you’re thinking about taking this trip, definitely do it and thank me later. My Panamá trip would not have been complete without this experience.

I was picked up the next morning at 5:15 AM…in a very cramped and crowded, all-terrain vehicle. There were 7 of us squished in… with luggage. It took approximately 3 hours to get to the port.
~ No wifi.
~ No cell coverage at all.
~ No credit cards.
~ No charge accounts.
~ No ATM’s.
~ No stores.…
Thanks for the heads up, Tao Travel… if I had been told any of this, I might have been slightly better prepared. Cash only… and although I’d been under the impression everything was all-inclusive, it was not.
Paola told me I needed to bring;
$50 each way for the vehicle transportation.
$15 each way for the water taxi transportation.
$20 entrance to the marine park.
$2 for entrance to the port.
On top of this, I owed the sailing charter another $360…
I needed a minimum of $512US in addition to the outrageous prices I had already dished out. And guess what?? I had actually already paid. They were draining me however they could.
The one thing I had requested when attempting to book accommodation, was to ensure I would be at different islands than those being visited during my sailing venture. Guess she didn’t understand that part… or just didn’t care.
For an all-inclusive, private sailing adventure, and a ship that had been initially describe to me as being quite large, it was definitely not large enough for four adults and two rambunctious young children. PLUS a chain smoker.
When I finally got off the boat and made my way to my island accommodation, my room could only be described as primitive… I had a thin sheet over a single mattress, a pillow… and that was about it. There was no heads up about this at all. Nothing else.
I was left alone at a decrepit part of the lodge, on the opposite side of the island... without any electricity... in the middle of a tropical storm... alone. In fact, it was so bad that I ended up leaving the next day. I was desperate to get out of there. Everything I had was soaking wet and I had nothing but a thin sheet to keep me warm.
I can handle a lot of roughing it and primitive conditions… but my comfort cannot be compromised to this extent… especially considering the price I had paid.
I packed up and left... first thing.
I was outta there...
I was still angry about my entire transaction with Paola… and decided to dive deeper into our previous conversations. Upon investigation and a closer look at my invoice, I discovered I had already paid for vehicle and boat transportation fee.
It was time to demand a refund.
Our correspondence had already hit an all-time low, but it was time to fall off the floor. I told her I was disappointed with my accommodation, the boat of children, her professionalism, her complete lack of attention to detail, her insufficient communication… and most importantly, her customer service.
Of course, the weather was 100% no one’s fault… but this woman had literally raped and pillaged at every angle. She continually shot back at my verified accusations with apathetic defence, ludicrous excuses and nonsensical protestations, which only served to annoy me further.
She tried to side-step her way out of absolutely every allegation, but when I proved how she tried to swindle me out of payments on more than one occasion, I had her backed into a corner and there was nothing more to discuss.
I got a $178US refund...
