About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- June0640 contributionsAll the highlights of Kyoto in a dayKazu-san was a wonderful source of historical and cultural knowledge! When he found out we only had one day in Kyoto, he went over time to ensure that we got to all the places we wanted to see. We would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an educational, fun, and efficient way to see Kyoto!Written 24 January 2025
- victoriagR1036XT0 contributionsA Walk in WinterMasa-San was amazing and had the best recommendations of where to eat and what might possible as far as what we wanted. My mother had wanted to see some winter flowers which, unfortunately, were not as abundant in January. But Masa-san was able to guide us to some wonderful alternatives with amazing views. He also knew the train system inside and out so it was easy to get to everywhere with a minimum amount of confusion!Written 23 January 2025
- 59liliz0 contributionsA nice day in Tokyo! This is my first time in Japan. I only have one full day here, so I booked this trip to make good use of my time. And I spent a wonderful day with my tour guide Shuji. He handpicked the best itinerary to fit my interests and my schedule. I heard a lot of interesting stories and learned so much about Japanese culture and history. He was also nice enough to accompany me back to my hotel at the end of the tour. The tour exceeded my expectation, highly recommended, especially if you only stay a short time.Written 23 January 2025
- P9462GElindam0 contributionsTwo Wonderful Days With SeizoIf you are looking for a guide to help you navigate Tokyo and Yokahama, Japan, look no further. You will not find a better guide than Seizo Kamiuto. We booked Seizo about two months before our trip. We corresponded back and forth about what we wanted to see. He offered us suggestions, and after we had reached an agreement, he met us upon our arrival at the cruise port of Yokohama and accompanied us by train to Tokyo. He was always punctual and dependable. He even took us back to the ship in Yokohama both nights that we were there. He was flawless in his ability to guide us through the east side and west side sights of the city on successive days. He is very knowledgable about Japan’s history, and his English is very good. He is also smart, savvy and experienced. He was able to give us the background of whatever we were seeing. He was incredibly helpful with the subway transportation system, which allowed us to navigate all its complexities without standing in lines or needing to study maps, etc. We whizzed through. The last thing we wanted to be doing was to drop time trying to find the right train or connecting train in our limited time there. Seizo was right there with us every step of the way. The full-day itineraries he carefully chose of various sights, gardens and museums were wonderful. If we wanted to do something slightly different he would present us with options of how to do those things instead of or in addition to what he had set. Seizo was helpful in so many ways on our two day stay. It would have been impossible to visit the number of excellent sights that we saw with a less experienced guide. He was sensitive to our needs and wishes. He provided historical contexts to what we were experiencing, and he shared with us the appropriate customs of his country, i.e., while visiting temples, shrines, and classic Japanese tea houses. Experiencing the culture and beauty of Tokyo was so easy, rewarding and easy with Seizo. We highly recommend him!Written 22 January 2025

It was my son‘s birthday the day we took the tour, and Kaeko planned a fantastic lunch for us right in the heart of Kiyomizu. This day was very memorable. Beautiful area of Japan and amazing views from the Island itself. But what really made the tour stand out for us was our tour guide An. She was so considerate and informative we just learned so much about the history at the area from her. She was even willing to stay beyond the 6 hours to help us complete the items on the tour. And to help us ensure we had the right trains should get back to Yokohama. She really made the day enjoyable and complete for us. Highly recommend the tour and unquestionably recommend touring with An if she is available.Written 21 January 2025

Visiting quiet Hiroshima was an unforgettable and moving experience for me and my husband, thanks to our very able guide, Tom-san, who takes his history seriously and touched us with his love for this dignified city and what it has endured. A short side trip to Miyajima showed us a quaint beauty that was magical even on a rainy day. We ended the day at the A-Bomb museum, capping a well spent day full of insightful conversation and memories we will never forget.

Thank your for your review on the tour in Hiroshima and Miyajima. I really appreciate your warm compliment.
I myself had a great time with you and your husband. I was deeply impressed by your interests in our culture and way of life as well as your courtesy and politeness.
It was so pleasant and comfortable for me to have you in Hiroshima although it rained on the day of tour. This encounter is unforgettable and I would like to cherish this experience.
Finally, I hope your are well and our paths will cross again. Tom

We had a wonderful tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima (Itsukushima) with Miyuki, and we were impressed with her ability to tailor the personalized tour around our interests, and her willingness to communicate with us ahead of time via email with several great additional suggestions. She has recorded several very useful short YouTube videos which we watched on the train ride to Miyajima that introduced a variety of topics and information we hadn’t known before. It was a real pleasure to talk with her about all manner of things about Hiroshima history and Japan itself. She told us about and showed us several fascinating things which we never would have found on our own. And we really appreciated that she was able to find a great okonomiyaki restaurant in Miyajima which could take a booking at a convenient time on our tour. We definitely recommend JGA for personalized tours, and in particular we recommend Miyuki Nakashima.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. Both of you are happy people! We enjoyed chatting and exchanging information about Hiroshima and your country. Since the weather was nice that day, we could return to the Peace Memorial Park pier from Miyajima Island on a high-speed boat. Thank you for choosing that option. On arriving, we could walk around the Peace Memorial Park. Since you have had time to visit the park and the museum the day before, I could show you other monuments in the park. Thank you for your sincere attention while visiting these monuments. During the tour, we saw some samurai at the Ninomaru area (Hiroshima castle). You look great in photos with them (Aki Hiroshima Bushotai).
Thank you for coming to Hiroshima. I am hoping to see you again in the future sometime. Miyuki(Hiroshima tour guide)

Yuko was an excellent guide who helped me make the most of the 1 day that I had to explore Hiroshima and Miyajima. We started the day around 9:30 AM by visiting the Peace Memorial Museum, which is a very solemn place to better understand one of the most tragic and sad events in human history. She gave context to a lot of what we saw, providing her family's own perceptions of the events that transpired and the aftermath. The museum will bring you to the verge of tears and I told her I couldn't imagine repeatedly visiting that museum as a tour guide to which she replied that she sees it as a calling to spread knowledge of the events that unfolded in Hiroshima.
After the museum, we explored the grounds of the Peace Memorial which somewhat lifted my spirits, as the exhibits in the museum left me feeling very sad. Yuko then took me out for a delicious okonomiyaki lunch where I ordered mine to include oysters since Hiroshima is known for its oysters. We then ventured to Miyajima where she gave me a good overview regarding the history of the island, Shinto & Buddhist beliefs, and had us walk around the island with purpose since she knew where to go to see everything noteworthy on the island.
Since we made good time getting around in Miyajima, we also got to visit the grounds of Hiroshima Castle. She explained that it had to rebuilt after the bombing of Hiroshima and took note that I had already seen Osaka Castle, so she suggested that it probably wouldn't be worth my while to pay admission to enter the museum inside the castle. The views around the castle were still very beautiful so I'm happy we got to explore the area around the castle.
The experience overall was great and I got along with Yuko very well. I was traveling solo, so she also took some excellent photos for me to capture memories of my time in Japan. She's very personable and knowledgeable so I highly recommend her as a guide. She even went above and beyond by helping me find a place to go out to eat for dinner after the tour was over.

Thank you for your warm comment. It was such a joyful tour that time flew by. I am glad that you enjoyed the local foods here in Hiroshima. I also enjoyed hearing your experiences since you started your journey in Japan. Thank you for agreeing with my suggestions and waking up earlier than initially planned. Our tour went so smoothly that we were able to make it to the castle, which was not on our original itinerary. The tour became even more memorable for me. -Yuko

this tour was a highlight of my trip to Japan. I knew that I needed to see Hiroshima and learn more about the history of the city and Yuko was the perfect guide for my trip. She was knowledgable and patient with my questions. Her love for the city and her passion to share the complicated story and its historical importance made the experience more meaningful for me. Can't recommend this enough. Request Yuko, if she is available!

My daughter and I booked a private tour of Hiroshima just for the two of us to make sure we could learn as much as possible about its history and culture. Our tour guide reached out to us the evening before noting our meetup location at the Shin-Hiroshima Station. When we got there, we couldn't find her despite following the instructions she provided. I reached out via text and provided photos for our location. After about 20 minutes of back and forth, she came up to me and somewhat scolded me for not being at the "right" location. She then proceeded to rush us to another train to get to a ferry for the island Miyajima. During the 30 minute or so train ride, she sat behind us and chatted with another commuter for most of the time. Departing the train, it seemed like we were chasing our guide to the ferry. Once on the ferry, our guide sat behind us again and I had to ask her what body of water we were on, what island we were going to, what its significance was -- it seemed I had to do a lot of prompting to get basic information that I'd expected her to provide unprovoked. When we got to the island, she mentioned we would be eating lunch at a location she already selected and having Hiroshima Okonomiyaka and we needed to get through the shrine in time for the 11:30 am lunch. At no point did she ask us what we would like to do during the tour, what our interests were or food preferences. It seemed that we needed to rush through the tour to accommodate a rigid schedule. She also was insistent that she pay for the entrance fees and other costs and would collect from us at the end of the tour which I objected to as I didn’t want to spend the time keeping a mental tab of what that cost would be at the end of the day. After some back and forth, I told her we would be paying for our own fees as we went and as explained on the Trip Advisor site for this booking. A couple of times, I was given a map of the island with its points of interest, and it appeared the intent was for me to read the information rather than her provide it. I wanted to take a picture of the Shinto Gate that is submerged in the water and there was a line. The guide did not want to wait for the line for me to do so and gave a location to the side that had obstructed views. This was very frustrating. It seemed she was not interested in accommodating our taking pictures. My daughter and I ended up huddling to figure out what to do and we decided to let the guide know we would continue without her services as the rushing around, absence of pertinent details on what we were seeing, general lack of meaningful answers to questions, and not being allowed to provide input on the day’s itinerary was becoming increasingly frustrating. My assumption was that, like other private tours, we would be able to provide our expectations or desires on what we wanted to see, do, eat, etc. Unfortunately, the tour was a wash at $351 USD. We ended up visiting the rest of the island on our own, taking the ferry back, and navigating ourselves to the Hiroshima Peace Museum which was a great, sobering experience. Takeaway from this: Make sure to set expectations with the tour company before booking so that you get a guide who can accommodate. (Note that my daughter is fluent in Japanese so none of this was due to a language barrier. Our guide simply seemed to be fixed on a rigid itinerary and rushing us through it.)

I came to Hiroshima on a mission to get away from Tokyo and Yokohama. I found a sense of peace, serenity, sadness, and humility with the people of Hiroshima. It was my first time being in a city in Western Japan. The people of Hiroshima/Kure are rough but down to earth. Their speech is not as soft as what I am accustomed to in Tokyo or Kanto region. I was happy to hear a lot of interesting accent differences that my guide taught me. My guide Yuko took me to the Atom Bomb museum and Miyajima. We filmed together one of the most intense iphone videos I ever made in a museum. This experience was touching and very powerful. Yuko being from Kure taught me many things in our short interaction. She exhibited to me a different flavor of the Japanese spirit. She is the epitome of a very hardworking, happy go lucky demeanor. I think Hiroshima is a very beautiful city and an example of a Japan that has healed from a difficult past. Miyajima is a big contrast from Hiroshima. It is a very peaceful island and was untouched when the bomb was dropped. Nonetheless it was nice to try some local food and I highly recommend the oysters as they are a delicacy in this prefecture. Thank you Yuko I hope to see you again. またね笑!

Thank you for your kind comment. It was very fortunate that I got to give you a tour in Hiroshima before the omicron surge. The nice and warm weather made me feel relaxed at the peace park and Miyajima.
It was a nice surprise that you were interested in my hometown Kure and its culture. So much so that I was excited to talk about the naval port town, its food and the film locations for “yakuza”movies! From those pictures you took in Kure, I can tell you had a good time there. I am glad you liked your oyster lunch. If you have another chance to come here in summer, we could try some conger eels that taste the best in summer. また会いましょうね!-Yuko

Noriko-san understood how to make the most out of our day. She was great at tailoring it to suit iuour needs. She took us to some less well known sights at both the temple on Miyama, as well as the Peace Park. We learnt to speak some Japanese and origami and ate some great food. She was great at explaining the background to what we were seeing and even shared some of her personal experiences. We greatly enjoyed the day, thought it was well worth the money we spent and could not recommend Noriko-san more highly.

Dear guests,
Thank you so much for a lovely review for me.
I was so impressed that you offered the paper cranes you folded to the Children’s Peace Monument spontaneously.
I was also happy you liked all Miyajima specialties I recommended such as broiled conger eels on rice, raw oysters and maple leaf shaped pastries.
Thank you again for visiting Hiroshima and joining our tour.

Unfortunately we did not have good experience with Japan Guide Agency in March 2023. We had booked a full day tour in Hiroshima. I had lots of communication with our guide ahead of time and it was all planned. Payment was to be charged to my card automatically two days before the tour. Due to my credit card being compromised during the period between booking and the date of the tour, my credit card number had changed and I had not thought to contact JGA to change the number over. Rather than contact me to say they were having trouble with my credit card, they simply sent me an email the day before our tour saying it had been cancelled. If they had contacted me, I would have simply given them the updated card number. I tried and tried to contact them, to no avail. On the cancellation email, they said "rebook here", and so I did that and received tickets via email for our new tour. (this was now the evening before we were in Hiroshima). However, on the day of our tour no guide showed up and I still could not get a response from anyone at JGA. No one was answering their phones or returning emails, even when I called an "emergency number" that another JGA guide gave me. A full week after we left Hiroshima, I got an email from JGA saying no guide had been found for our trip. I looked on their website and there is a note saying "Due to high demand, we are currently not accepting new bookings for Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kamakura, Nikko, Hiroshima until May 1st, 2023". So why did they give me an option to "rebook here", send me tickets and charge my credit card?? Bottom line: we were extremely disappointed to be left on our one day in Hiroshima with no guided tour, tickets to a rebooked tour that didn't actually exist and a chare on my credit card (which they have now apparently processed a refund of). I am sure we would have enjoyed the tour if it had happened, but buyer beware: make sure there is no change on your credit card number before the date of your tour or they will cancel it on you. And even if they send you an email with tickets, you may not really have a firm tour until they send you a further followup note with your guide's contact details.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Since customers have a 24 hours window to cancel reservations with no penalty, viator/trip advisor will not charge you until much later after your reservation for many cases. If your credit information changed and a payment cannot be made, they will cancel your reservation. Please be sure to check all of your information so that you do not have this unfortunate experience again. At JGA, we are unable to rebook and approve of payments on short notice, so please be aware of that this may be the case for other bookings with other places as well. We wish you the best!

We loved and would highly recommend this tour. Sei was a wonderful guide who met us at our hotel and took us to see the highlights of the Hiroshima area. He was very organised, efficient and personable. We enjoyed his company. He explained how the tour would work and, as we are keen walkers, it suited us extremely well. Sei was able to answer all our questions and was amenable to change of the itinerary if needed. His explanations and guidance helped our understanding of Japanese customs, people, places, history and food. We were moved by the Peace museum and park tour, captured by the beautiful garden and castle visits and enjoyed the Miyajima Shrine Island with its very special Buddhist pilgrimage cave that Sei gave us the privilege of visiting. We opted not to visit the Shinto shrine as we had seen similar in Kamakura. Your choice - Sei was very accommodating of our suggestion to change the itinerary. We had Suicca cards and JR passes for trains and ferries but you’ll also need cash for the gardens and peace museum. We left our hotel near Hiroshima station at 8.30 am and didn’t return until 3.30. Excellent day out. Be prepared for tears at the museum. Thank you Sei. You made our day.

We had an incredible day with our guide Noriko. Noriko was the best guide ever! She communicated with us in advance, understood our preferences, prepared a customized itinerary, modified it a few times on our request, helped us book the right train to Hiroshima, received us at the platform at the station, and gave us a tour of both Miyajima and Hiroshima in 7 hours that would have taken us several days in our own. Noriko made sure we covered most of the major tourist attractions and took us to some local spots that only true locals would know. We got to see some amazing cherry blossoms in bloom at spots that didn’t have any tourists while all the touristy spots were very crowded. She made sure we got to use our time optimally and had made reservations for us at some amazing restaurants well in advance so we got a nice culinary tour as well! In Hiroshima we had an emotional and education experience and we were very grateful that Noriko shared personal stories and the historical record with us. She finished the tour by teaching us all how to fold origami paper cranes. Truly, Noriko is the best guide we’ve had the good fortune to connect with. I highly recommend her and her tour. Thank you so much Noriko!

Thank you so much for writing such a lovely review for me.
It was a busy day and so crowded as it was the time when cherry blossoms started to bloom.
So we had a quite tight schedule on that day.
Without your cooperation and help, we would not have been able to complete our itinerary on that day in a completely efficient manner.
Thank you again for your help.
I was happy you enjoyed beautiful scenery with cherry blossoms especially on Miyajima island.
I hope you will come back to Miyajima in autumn when you will see beautiful autumn leaves next time.
Enjoy your trip in Japan.
Best regards,
Noriko

Hi, is this tour that only includes government licensed guide for a day for £155 really the best there is in Hiroshima? I must say I’m taken back by the cost, which would mean that two of us are paying in excess of £300 for a one day guided tour? Am I missing something?

We met the tour guide at hiroshima train station
We were staying in Osaka and caught the shinkasen from osaka to hiroshima
We reserved seats so we gave the tour guide our arrival time and platform and he met us at the platform

Why is the listed price one value, then more than double after I check availability for one person.

2. We will be checking out of the hiroshima airport hotel with our bags. can the guide help us with dropping off the bags in the locker at the hiroshima train station before we continue with the tour
3. what time is the tour expected to end if we want to touch all the points that are mentioned in the tour
4. At the end of the tour can the guide drop us off at the station as we plan to take the train to tokyo

We took guides in a number of cities. None of the guides had cars to pick us up. Depending on the city, they met us at hotels and took subways, trains, public buses or walked. I suspect that you can arrange for the guide to take you by taxi to the train station and help you with the lockers. In Hiroshima we walked to some sites, took public buses to other sites, took a ferry to Miyajima Island. You need to use a tour company that can adjust o your needs and schedule. For every city, the guide emailed us long before the tour. In Hiroshima we changed the sequence because we wanted to end up on Miyajima and stay longer there than the tour duration. The guides are all very accommodating as long as they know ahead of time. All of our guides were independent and got their assignments from the tour companies from online listings. Just be clear what you want and need.

do we need to go to all the places mentioned in the itinerary, or can we choose specific places in the list?
we would like to maximize our 6 hr tour with the following places in mind
1. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (does this include the Atomic Bomb Dome?)
2. Itsukushima Shrine (Miyajima)
3. Onomichi
4. Hiroshima Castle

Hello
You can definitely do that, just make sure you tell the tour guide what would you like to do and they can help you

Good day! I would just like to ask if there is a possibility of the start times to be adjusted from 9 AM to a later time? My family's flight will be arriving at 8:45 AM at the Kansai International Airport and from the information we've received, it takes about 2-3 hours to go to Hiroshima via JR. We really hope to go to Hiroshima on that day as that is the only free day with have for our trip. Thanks.

My trip is confirmed and I asked the supplier to collect me from my hotel. However the TripAdvisor site displays an error when I tried to review my booking. So I can not verify that the supplier will collect me.
