Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima Island Tour from Kyoto
From US$349.35
Travel round-trip from Kyoto by high-speed bullet train to take in Hiroshima's historic sites, including exhibits about the 1945 atomic bomb that devastated the city. Start your visit on a lighter note, traveling by boat to Miyajima, a famously beautiful island that is home to the revered Itsukushima Shrine. Have lunch there, then return to the city to visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Your expert guide shares important details about Hiroshima's heartbreaking history and remarkable recovery throughout this unforgettable 12-hour tour.
What to Expect
Start your day by meeting your guide at the New Miyako Hotel and transfering to Kyoto Station to board the bullet train for the scenic 2-hour ride to Hiroshima Station. As your train zips along, your guide introduces the history of Hiroshima, from ancient times to the devastation of World War II and on up to the present.
When you arrive in Hiroshima, travel to Miyajimaguchi either by train or coach, then transfer to a boat that takes you to Miyajima, a revered locale also known as the Sacred Island. It is most famous for the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Itsukushima Shrine and its picturesque torii gate, which appears to float on water at high tide. You may spot tame deer roaming free, adding to the ambiance of the island scenery. After about 45 minutes on the island, have lunch (own expense) then relax on the boat as you cruise back to Hiroshima.
In the afternoon, visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, your guide leads you through exhibits about the atomic bomb that devastated Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and the city's remarkable recovery post-World War II.
Take a bus or train to your tour's final destination, the Genbaku Dome (aka the Atomic Bomb Dome or Hiroshima Peace Memorial), one of the few buildings that survived the bombing. Nearby, the Children’s Peace Monument is draped with thousands of origami cranes made by children. The Atomic Bomb Memorial Mound contains the ashes of 70,000 bomb victims; many were unidentified or had no surviving relatives to claim their ashes.
When you have finished taking in Hiroshima, board the bullet train again at Hiroshima Station and travel back to Kyoto Station, where your tour ends upon arrival in the evening.

A tour that covers it all!

This tour was really packed - Covered a lot of tourist spots, but it was very well paced. Would have liked to have spent more time around the Peace Park and Museum. But other wise, it was a very enjoyable course! Would definatly recomend it!

The place of recall dark days of Japan

If you visit in Japan, you should go this place. You can recall dark days of Japaneses and you feel how they felt their difficulties during that period. We should proud of them that the level they have reached.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum

A nice museum that reminds of the past. The heavy rain sat the mood in the right way. The concept was creative... The transport to the park could be better. It is almost 20 minutes with bus. Worth the trip!

Peace Memorial Park

Beautiful park. This place is a very calm place. Walk around and see the Dome and the destruction that can be done in a split second,
