Overview

Gain a better understanding of sake during this tour that explores the Fushimi Sake District of Kyoto. During this tour, visit Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum, one of the largest sake breweries in Fushimi, and end your visit with a sake-tasting session. Not only will your guide be able to explain the basics of sake and introduce you to new kinds you may have never tried, but your tastings will also be paired with Japanese snacks that enhance the tasting experience.

What to Expect

Meet your guide at Fushimi Kan and set off on your three hour tour exploring the Fushimi District of Kyoto, one of Japan’s most famous sake producing areas, and home to over 30 breweries.

  • Insider Sake Brewery Tour

You’ll take a short walk to visit Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum the largest sake brewery in Fushimi, where you’ll deepen your knowledge of sake and witness traditional brewing processes which have been passed down from generation to generation.
You'll go into a production area which public can't access to see the brewing process. (Depends on the brewery's schedule)

At the end of your brewery tour you’ll have the chance to taste a few of the flavours produced there, and friendly staff from the brewery will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. After finishing up with your first sampling, you’ll move on to the full tasting session.

*Dec 30 - Jan 4, due to the brewery closure, the sake brewery tour will be replaced to a walking tour in Fushimi Sake District.

  • Sake Tasting with an Expert

You’ll get to try flavours of sake you may never have experienced before – as we’ll introduce you to bottles which have never been exported. Your expert guide will explain the differences in taste – dry, fruity, sweet – and how each of these are produced.

  • Food Pairing

You’ll also be served various otsumami – Japanese snacks which traditionally accompany alcohol – so you can see which types of food and flavour best accompany the different sake types.

Tasting and food pairing sessions last from one hour to one hour and 30 minutes.
Our guide will be on hand to recommend bars and restaurants in the local area.
