Overview
You will dress up in a yukata—a light summer kimono—and learn the Bon Odori dance.
What is Bon Dance?
The origin of Bon Odori dates back to the Heian era, when a monk named Kuya chanted in rhythm to have people remember Nembutsu—a popular Buddhist chant. This eventually became the Nembutsu dance that then spread to the people and the Bon Festival, a celebration that honors the spirits of ancestors. In the Kamakura period, Bon dance evolved into a traditional art and it became entertainment for the people.
