      SCAM!
The tour operator did not show up. This is not the first time this has happened. Why does trip advisor still have this on your site. I expect a full refund.

      DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR
DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR - IT IS A SCAM NO ONE TURNS UP. Even though you get all of the usual communications via Trip Advisor it is not a legitimate tour operator. Shame on Trip Advisor for allowing them to continue to operate on their platform without at least a thorough investigation given the amount of negative reviews.

      SCAM ACCOUNT - no show
Scam or expired account, who knows. We booked this late March and on the 10th of April booking no one showed up. Whole group of people in the same boat. Received confirmation and had card charged. Disappointing.

The bike tour that does not happen
Terrible! DO NOT BOOK! We were one of 3 groups ( 9 people) who turned up. The guide and bikes did not show up. We waited from 8.20 to 8.50 for a meeting time of 8.30 with a no show! Phone number went to voicemail, saying they were no longer operating. TripAdvisor should no longer be offering a tour that does not exist.

      Never showed up
The photo is great but the guy was not there and the office is very hard and expansive to locate and when we did get t here, on time, he was not there nor did he arrive ever. No response to messages and still nothing even though we have paid and no response to late request for refund. I wonder if Trip Advisory do anything to vet the businesses they promote. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS

      A false start. Disappointed
I received the confirmation for the bike tour. Card charged for it. I made my way to it and nobody was there. I then called the number and received a message that they were effectively closed. No advice from anyone directly along the way or since that they were closed.

Brilliant day in the colour of Kyoto
The guide, Peter, well knew the quiet roads between the destinations. Traffic was never really a problem and riding always felt safe. Peter was also well informed and had interesting things to say about the various temples and even about things inside them, such as a grave site for Jane and John Does and other people with no family to mourn or commemorate them. The autumn leaves were also gorgeous.

      Cherry blossom tour
Went with Peter on a cherry blossom tour around Kyoto by bicycle. We went at a gentle pace, just right for our group. We stopped at various points on the way and Peter gave interesting insider details about where we were and Japanese history. Definitely a worthwhile experience

      back road tour of Miyama
Peter knows all the scenic back roads and this route takes you on a return loop from Kyoto to Miyama that avoids all high speed traffic. There are 2-3 significant mountain passes (4-5km climbs) so you'll need your climbing legs but it's well worth it. Peter can give you information on what to look out for according to the season and where to have lunch or stay. This tour is doable in a day but if you like rambling I'd recommend spreading it over 2 days, do a little exploring of your own, take all the photos you want, and then spend a relaxed evening in cozy thatched roof accommodation. Wintery conditions and closed roads from Dec through to the end of March is the only time of year to avoid.

Very smooth experience. These e-bikes make riding around Kyoto effortless. Can get around far more places in one day than any other method of transport.

With power assistance, I easily did a 70 km ride, including a couple of mountain ascents.
A friend who is maybe 25 years younger than I am, and much fitter, suggested that we visit a temple and catch the late cherry blossoms on the other side of the mountains N of Kyoto City. He knew that I was interested in trying an e-bike and suggested renting one from Peter at Adventours. I used his Trek e-MTB.
On the way to the first mountain ascent, we went over a hill where the gradient was as much as 25%. By then, I had got to understand the mechanical gear change, now I had to use power assistance: just press a button.
It felt strange to so easily overtake him, and with so little effort. I seemed to wait for a long time at the top.
At the bottom of the first long climb up to Hanase Pass, he urged me to go on ahead, so I did. I had heard that the road up was popular with cyclists, and this proved true as I overtook about two dozen riders who were making their way up under their own power.
At the top, I only had to wait about three minutes for my superfit companion.
The descent was a lot of fun, and then the road levelled out a bit as we passed through some quaint farming villages. Getting to the temple, Joshoko-ji was much easier than I imagined it would be. On the way we passed plenty of flowering cherries and other blossom trees that were still in bloom. The weeping cherry at Joshoko-ji had been pruned and, apparently was not as magnificent as it was a couple of years ago. It still looked good to me. The temple itself was also very interesting, well worth the JPY 400 entrance fee.
Lunch proved to be a bit of a problem because the few restaurants require booking. They can accommodate a few casual guests, but they soon run out of food. Never mind, we got food from a convenience store and enjoyed lunch outdoors on the store's picnic table.
After Hanase, where I had sometimes used Turbo Mode on the steep hairpins, because I was concerned about enough battery left for the mountain pass back to the city, I tried not to use power assistance. The bicycle was easy enough to pedal on flat roads and gentle slopes. It had power to spare for the climb up Kiyomi Pass.
We were lucky with the weather and I enjoyed a great day out. It was my first long ride on an e-bike, which really extended my range and eased me over the mountains that stand between Kyoto and the countryside.
