It was just great! Through this tour I came to places (especially delicious restaurants) that I would never have gone to on my own. My guide was super nice, accommodating and was able to show and explain me many great things. The length of the tour was just right. And photos were taken that were immediately sent to me afterwards. Great, I highly recommend it!

What a wonderful tour. We had such a great time - learning about Nagano and how an earthquake flattened the area - with the exception of the Fuji Hotel (near Zenkoji) - which has now changed into a celebration venue - but you can still have coffee and snacks in the basement.
We visited Zenkoji and all of the smaller temples around, learning all about them. Our guide spoke English well and answered all of our questions without fail. The food was amazing. Soba is their speciality and it was a wonderful meal.
(The photos are from a previous visit we did ourselves during the cherry blossom season and loved Nagano so much, we went back in October - it's only 1.5 hours from Tokyo on the shinkunsen)
The great thing about this tour that that everyone is so flexible. You don't have to stay on the main tourist area, but wander around some of the side streets as well. We not only did the tour, but visited a number of other spots - our guide recommended a number of them that were not on the tourist trails such as the big red temple.
Usually, you can't go in, but the people at the entrance asked us to wait and they telephoned a guide to come and talk us through the wall wall friezes denoting how the relic came to be there. Very interesting.
I speak Japanese, so it was not a problem for me / us - I don't know if they have a guide that can explain in English... maybe this company will expand to include this in their tour - the red temple is about 20 minutes walk after Zenkoji - but it was a lovely day.
There is also something called the Apple Line (or Bird Line) where you can buy Fuji apples.
Our guide also organised a posh shabu shabu dinner reservation for us (again, near the red temple in Uematsu). Similarly with the red temple, English was not widely spoken but we had no problems at all and I would highly recommend the food.
The tour company were very easy to work with and we had a great time.

I did the cultural/food tour solo in Nagano in February. I enjoyed it immensely. My guide ensued all my expectations were met, I met local people as they went about their day. My guide was informative professional and friendly. Whilst watching Oyaki being made by delightful locals , I ate a delicious meal. I had matcha tea and yummy caramel custard in traditional tea house. We walked through an interesting old area, visiting the temple and an exquisite little gift shop. Highly recommended!

We have spent 10 days in Japan and 3 of those in Nagano where we enjoyed the tour around the temple. The experience was surreal and we tried some really nice local dishes and tea. o8 also suggested us to visit early in the morning se we could attend a morning ritual. Highly recommended
