    What a night!!!!
Andy was a great laugh with the right kind of balance of humility, knowledge and character! The food we had at all the restaurants was amazing and also amplified by the narrative and rich history that Andy is clearly so passionate about!! Thanks mate was a fantastic night!!

    Worth it!
TL;DR: Hilarious, whip-smart guides who know their food, their drinks, and how to make a group of strangers feel like old friends. Worth every yen—tip generously, folks! So, I almost never write reviews, but this experience was so good, I feel morally obligated to spread the word. My wife, father-in-law, and I booked this tour with Andy and Maru, and let me tell you—it was a night to remember. Beforehand, I let Andy know that my wife has a sensitivity to MSG (migraines), which, in Japan, is like saying, “Hey, can we do a sushi tour without rice?” We knew it was a long shot, and Andy was upfront about the challenge, even offering a free cancellation if we thought it would be an issue. Respect. We decided to go for it anyway, and Andy delivered. He scoped out which dishes were likely to be MSG-heavy, found ways to tweak the menu, and was totally cool with us bringing food my wife could safely eat. From the get-go, it was obvious he genuinely wanted us to have an amazing time. And the food? Phenomenal. You can tell Andy knows his stuff—he guided us to some incredible local dishes we might have skipped over (cheese kushikatsu and chicken wings, who knew?). We’re adventurous eaters (yes, we are those Asians), so octopus and mountain yam were already on our radar. But Andy steered us toward the hidden gems, and every bite was a winner. Bonus points for the expert alcohol pairings—he made sure we knew which drinks were Japan-exclusive and what each place specialized in. But let’s be real—great food and drinks alone don’t make a great tour. Andy and Maru made this experience. They’re engaging, hilarious, and masters at getting a group of strangers to vibe like long-lost drinking buddies. They dropped knowledge bombs on history, food culture, and even pop culture hot takes (unfiltered and highly entertaining). With 20+ years in Japan, they’ve got stories for days, and honestly, by the end of the night, it felt like we were out with old friends. Speaking of which, they didn’t just ditch us after the last stop—they made sure everyone knew how to get home safely, even hailing a taxi for us. Five-star hospitality, minus the snooty vibes. If you’ve read this far, stop hesitating and just book the tour! You won’t regret it.

    Excellent Food, Amazing Place!
My husband and I had a great time on the Hungry Osaka Food Tour! Our tour guide, Tim, was incredible and very kind. He gave us all sorts of insights about Osaka, the food, the culture, the buildings. It was all very cool. The food was incredible as well. Some dishes we had tried, but many we hadn’t. We are so glad we booked this tour. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Osaka.

Fun evening walking and eating tour
Great small group (8 people) food tour with not too much walking between each of the 5 restaurants. Drinks included at 2 of the restaurants.

Fantastic guides and great food in a very interesting part of Osaka
We had a great night out in Shinsekai. This area is very interesting and full of amazing people. Our guide Tim was excellent and his local knowledge means you will go to places you would never see if you are on a tour bus. Food was authentic and delicious and includes drinks in most of the restaurants which makes this tour great value. Highly recommended.

Great food, group size and dynamics, knowledgeable staff that shares its love of the city & food.
It’s been 6 months since our trip to Japan, and my 15 year old daughter STILL reminisces about this tour. She recently commented on how it was in the top highlights of the trip for her (we went to Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka). Not only did Scott pick great places with interesting and delicious variety, they put together a group that really gelled, with people from all over the world. Great food, Fun photo opps, and for the adults, the beverages ranged from cans (don’t 👎 Limoncello from a can until you’ve tried it!!) to varieties of sake. To start, we ate 6 different types of fried chicken (nice little bite size, in our own basket, separate tables) from a cool hole in the wall place I would’ve never have found. Turns out, my daughter, who doesn’t care for most Chinese food, or American BBQ, learned she loves Korean BBQ. Who knew. It was really smart how they picked places that allowed us to be with our families at the beginning. You got to know people throughout the tour, usually sitting at tables of 4-6. Before the end, we were sitting all together at a long table sampling each other’s drinks. Restaurants were ready for us and Scott got our food fast. I should also note that my family were somewhat in the wrong place for the meet up; Andy phoned me to make sure we found the group and stayed on the phone with me until I was in the right place. They really care about the customer experience, sharing a city and its food they love, and creating a quality company. Well done Hungry Osaka! Thank you for a truly memorable experience. You will see us in Japan again, soon- and we look forward to trying more of your tours!!!

    Amazing Food Tour
This tour was a highlight of our trip- I cannot recommend it enough!! Andy was a phenomenal tour guide. He curated an amazing menu across 5 different restaurants. All of the food was delicious and we definitely didn't leave hungry. Throughout the tour, Andy was happy to answer any/all questions and share insights into Japanese culture. We learned a ton. The atmosphere all night was fun and jovial. We started the tour as 8 strangers and left feeling like old friends. It was such a great way to experience the city and its culinary delights. We will definitely do this tour again if/when we're back in Osaka!

Hungry Osaka food tour is fabulous!
The Hungry Osaka food tour was a fantastic night out and introduction to street food of Osaka. Andy was an exceptional guide with great insight and information on the area we toured. Both adult and young teenager enjoyed. Highly recommend.

    Great time and excellent food!
The tour was great! We tried the typical street food dishes from Osaka. Andy, our tour guide, had an excellent energy and guided us not only through the food but also from the life of shinsekai.

A great way to spend an evening!
This tour was brilliant! Tim was a wonderful guide - he knew his stuff, super friendly and was a great host throughout, making sure everyone was well looked after. The food was delicious (we went back to the karaage chicken shop twice after the tour!) and we loved the little bits of history throughout too. Learnt a lot and ate a lot - go with an empty stomach as you won't want to miss any bites!

    Fun and friendly food
Fun and delicious tour with a very knowledge and friendly American guide, Tim. Take advantage of the included alcohol drinks which are very generous compared to American portions. Fun group atmosphere. Accommodating to dietary needs

We had just one day in Osaka and wanted to make the most of it, so we booked this walking tour—and it was absolutely worth it! We saw all the key sights in the city at a comfortable pace, never feeling rushed or tired. Our guide, Andy, was fantastic—funny, informative, and always ready with tips and answers to our questions. He did an excellent job balancing the city's rich history with its modern vibrancy. If you're short on time or unsure where to start in Osaka, I highly recommend this tour for a well-rounded experience!

Andy’s tour made our holiday - his knowledge of the city, and his friendly and (very) open delivery made this tour so very high value for money. We were given ample time and opportunity for rest, refreshments and even a spot of shopping while still packing in a huge amount of local knowledge, cultural and historical education and very fun banter!

Andy will tailor the tour to be perfect for your group, and this left us feeling it was quite bespoke and personalised. I honestly couldn’t recommend him more and wish we’d had more time to tap further into his knowledge with another tour (or even just a bite to eat and a beer - he is also just great company!!)

Dont hesitate- you will love this tour.

Our tour guide Andy gave us a highly informative and entertaining tour of Osaka. His knowledge of history and Japanese culture really helped us appreciate all of the things that make Osaka the amazing city that it is. Our walking tour took us through an amazing route that started at Osaka castle and took us through many of the amazing and unique districts that give Osaka so much of its character; from the abundant retail of Shinsaibashi to the hustle and bustle of Dotonbori, the haven of geek culture Den den street, the historic Kuromon fish market, and the cultural homage that is Shinsekai. Andy brought these areas to life with stories and facts that helped illustrate how these areas came to be. He also was able to give us great recommendations based on things we wanted to do and eat while in the city. I'd definitely recommend this tour, and I'm sure his food tour would be really fun as well based on the recommendations he gave us for restaurants.

Andy was an outstanding guide. In our group of six, he was easily the best tour guide we’ve ever had. He led us through Osaka, showcasing a wide variety of sites. Andy was very flexible, adjusting the tour according to our group's needs and interests. He provided a perfect balance of historical information and general knowledge about Japanese culture.

His laid-back attitude and humor made the six-hour tour fly by. The smaller group size also gave the experience a more intimate and private feel.

My gf and I had the pleasure of doing the Osaka tour with Scott in December 2024. Scott was an excellent guide, provided all the history and background of the castle and the shogunate in a super interesting way, and really caught us all up in his enthusiasm for Osaka and Japan in general throughout the tour. He was also a very good photographer, which my gf definitely appreciated and utilised, and took the pressure off me! Logistics were excellent, from initial meet up to navigating around the city and good lunch recommendation. The tour group was a good size and we visited a lot of cool spots across the city with good recommendations on where and what to do... we've already agreed we need to revisit Osaka as a result, in particular for the vintage video game arcade bar. Have recommended to multiple people. Dave and Steph.

My husband and I had just come in from 2.5 hours traveling, after multiple days of walking more than 30,000 steps per day. We were exhausted. Plus, it was raining. It was raining so much—and we hate rain.

We wanted to cancel the tour because we were so tired and because of the rain. But since it was a few hours before, it was too late to cancel and we didn’t want to lose the money, so we decided to show up.

we were SO HAPPY that we didn’t cancel and that we ended up showing up! It was an incredible experience. Andy our tour guide was hilarious. He immediately got us out of our slump with jokes and good energy and he also is a certified history teacher and really knew what he was talking about. He was so lovely and hilarious and he really brought the energy of the group up. We got to see the city of Osaka from the eyes of someone that truly loves the city, which is always so much fun. We had a delicious lunch and learned so much history and see some truly breathtaking incredible sights. It was such a good time it’s one of the highlights of my entire trip to Japan. We’ve been here over a week and i was sooo incredibly happy the whole day despite the fact it was raining A LOT and we were so tired. Andy’s tour and insights on the city and historical background that
He gave were brilliant and so insightful. He was so humble too and didn’t wven ask us to leave a review. I asked him and then found the site myself which I never do for reviews. We are really grateful for a wonderful experience!!!

Andy took us on an amazing tour through Osaka when we visited in January. The tour lasted for about 5 hours, but the time flew by because we had so much fun throughout. We really enjoyed exploring the city on foot while learning about Osaka’s history and culture from Andy. The tour has a few breaks throughout and a lunch in between, which we thought was really well-paced. We would highly, highly recommend this tour, especially at the beginning of your Osaka trip because it helps you get to know more of the different areas in Osaka! If Andy held tours in other cities that we were visiting, we would definitely sign up. Truly the ultimate tour and tour guide!
