- youhadme_atpassport0 contributionsAmazing Amazon AdventureJust got home from our Amazon Adventure with Joshua’s Amazon Expedition. We booked the 5 days/4 nights at the floating lodge/one night camping. My boyfriend and I had an amazing time with so many wonderful memories. What made our adventure so great was having Yamal as our tour guide. From the moment we met him, we knew that we were in very good hands. He was very personable and so great to chat with. He had so many wonderful things to share with us while we were out in the boat as well as on our nature walks. It was a pleasure having Yamal as our guide and I feel very blessed as this was our first time in the Amazon. He is such an amazing guide and made everything so great that we didn’t want our tour to end and we were very sad to leave. I do know that we would love to come back when the water levels are higher as it would be so much fun to take the boats into the forest for a different perspective. Hopefully we will be lucky and get Yamal as our guide again as I know that we will have a fabulous time. I’ve already been sharing details of our adventure with some friends and have been telling them to book with Joshua’s Amazon Expeditions. Maybe they will be just as lucky as we were to get Yamal as their guide 😁Written 3 January 2025
- 26ismailn0 contributionsDecember 2024 family visit to the AmazonWe visited Joshua’s lodge in December 2024 for our first visit to the Amazons region. It was a wonderful experience that we will never forget. The lodge is authentic with a very welcoming family. Food is good with local dishes , fruits and vegetables. We booked the 4 day tour, we had Daniel as our guide who was super helpful and experienced. The nature is superb and is different from anything we have seen before in Europe, Africa or North America. We and our kids were mainly interested in seeing local animal species, and although in nature it always depends on luck we managed to see: caymans, aguti, dolphins, snakes, spiders, centipedes, lizards, piranhas , vultures , eagles, and lots of parrots. We spent one night in the jungle sleeping in hammocks which was exhausting but amazing in every way! Definitely recommend to nature loving folksWritten 29 December 2024
- Richard D0 contributionsUnique Jungle ExperienceUnique experience on one of the Amazon rivers. Joshua, the owner, is immediately accessible at all times. This tour is complex with cars, vans and boats, yet is superbly and flawlessly organized—everyone involved is always on time, unusual in South American culture. Ken, our guide, is so knowledgeable and passionate about the environment. Gustavo, the other guide, is amazing in his ability to find animals to observe. David, our driver in Manaus, had much information about the city and was enormously helpful when we had to change hotels. The accommodations are rustic, but the air conditioning was great to escape the heat and humidity of the Amazon. The quality of the food was marginal, the only real negative to this tour, but was plentiful.Written 10 December 2024
- Silvano C0 contributionsThis is not an Amazon tour. This is not an Amazon tour. It’s a friendly tour designed for people 55+ to walk around a river. I’m 36 and by day 2 I was ready to leave and go explore other parts of the Amazon. The owner of this tour company built a small lodge in a tiny village by a river and called it “the Amazon tour.” You do little tours of the village and the river. He built a small 2 hour hiking path. We did not see any animals the entire 4 days. Absolutely nothing. You can do better hikes in Oregon or Colorado. Breakfast at 7, sit for 2 hours, walk or boat tour till 11 then sit till 3:30 pm then small walk till 5:30 pm. For 3 days then go home. The end. Food was good, nice people work at his lodge. The tour guides are burnt out and they know it’s not an Amazon tour but an expensive scam, but they do what they can to make it look “exciting.” You can do this tour with local guides for 50-100 dollars a day on your own.Written 30 November 2024
- Sekok0 contributionsUnforgettable contact with Mother NatureWe booked a 5 Day/4 Night Amazon Adventure With Stay At Tapiri Rio Negro Lodge thru Joshua’s Amazon Expeditions. The package included transportation from and to our hotel in Manaus, transportation by car from an to the river and by boat up Rio Negro to Tapiri Lodge which is located in the Anavilhanas national park (in case you are interested to search it on the map it is at coordinates -002.838531° / -060.735265°). On our way to the lodge we had a stop to have a swim in the river and interact with pink dolphins, and on our way back to Manaus we visited Tatuyo’s indigenous community. Tapiri Lodge is a family run property consisting in 5 independent log cabins and a common area where food is served, perked on the jungle which surround Rio Negro. The cabins are easy but cozy, clean, comfortable with air conditioning and just cold water, but with day temperatures usually reaching 38 - 40 that was no problem for us. The fact that they are scattered around on the hill offers very good privacy. Tapiri lodge is run with passion, competence, friendliness, respect for the nature and a warm heart and soul. Food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is prepared as a buffet by two talented ladies which will make sure that a quite large offer of tasty vegetables, fish and meat dishes will satisfy everybody. By the way, in case you are wondering, yes there is WIFI. With our guide Paulo and his native assistant Silas we spent an unforgettable time on the boat, immersed in wonderful landscapes, hiking in the jungle, visiting the local community and spotting many animals (mainly birds, alligators, capybara and a few otters). We went fishing with nets. Our catch was cooked to perfection by the lodge ladies! We spent one night camping in the jungle, eating fish grilled on a camp fire and we slept in hammocks in the wood. We learned a lot and enjoyed every bit of our trip, but we would like to include a word of warning: do not underestimate such an adventure. Location, temperature, humidity, sudden weather changes, mud & forest density are quite taxing. Ponder in advance where you are traveling to and do not overestimate your capabilities. Approach nature with respect, well equipped and bring always a large quantity of water with you. The jungle will simply sweat the hell out of you. Another point to consider: Amazon is mainly for landscapes, to spot animals (and jaguars in particular) is better go to Pantanal.Written 30 October 2024
- 635tianam0 contributionsAn experience of a lifetime, where we got a real taste of the Amazon jungle! This was a one of a kind experience to be integrated so fully within the Amazon jungle! We were collected from our hotel promptly by Joshua and straight away felt comfortable, which was good because for the remaining 4 days, our movements were out of our hands! We were driven to the meeting of the waters, picked up by someone else to be driven to the Amazon river, and collected by someone else who took us on a boat to the lodge we would stay at. Just getting to the lodge was already an adventure and took about 4 hours! Once we got there, we were in the hands of our two guides, one English and one Portuguese. Our English guide Yamal spoke perfect English so we could have a memorable tour. We learnt a lot about the jungle, the water, the animals. We did activities including caiman hunting, piranha fishing, canoeing, jungle trekking, swimming with pink dolphins and visiting a local village, and even spent a night in the jungle sleeping on hammocks! The guides took total care of us, and we didn’t have to lift a finger as they set up our camp and cooked dinner for us. The boat became our mode of transportation to each activity, and when we had some downtime we pulled onto the shores and either went to a local spaza shop for a beer or took a walk on the beach. The lodge we stayed at was the Tapiri lodge and the stay was comfortable with a room that felt like a treehouse, surrounded by trees. It has an en-suite bathroom and air conditioning. The meals served were delicious! There was always a salad, rice, pasta, beans, fruit, local fruit juice, meat or chicken and usually fish. Either stewed or fried. We did have fried eggs for most breakfasts and a cake of sorts with tea and coffee. The only downside is that we didn’t see as many animals as we were hoping! So adjust your expectations as the jungle is so dense that it makes it almost impossible to spot anything! Most animals don’t want to be seen and probably won’t be spotted! All in all 10/10 and I would recommend it to someone wanting a real jungle experience! We felt completely safe in the hands of our capable guides and thank them very much!Written 18 September 2024
- US_To_Anywhere0 contributionsSomewhat deceptive business practicesWe really enjoyed the trip and stayed in a floating lodge. It was great. Any tour operator could have booked it for us. My biggest beef with the services provided by Joshua's Amazon Expeditions is the "guide" they sent with us. He was literally a kid in his early twenties. He was a Philosophy or English major and was mostly translating things for us rather than guiding us. A city boy who knew very little about Amazon flora and fauna. He even complained that the company was paying him half than the guides prevailing wages, which is equally disappointing. Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed Amazon Rainforest, none the less.Written 13 September 2024
- L5781JFstefanoc0 contributionsUnforgettable AmazonsOur stay at Peacoch Ecolodge on the Mamori lake was really unforgettable for many reasons: first, the position, very secluded with perfect view on the lake and river; second, the lodge: we were the only guests and stayed in room #1, a family hut with 4 beds and the best view; third, the people: a whole family took care of us, starting from Helder - our guide, a young skilled guy who perfectly showed us everything possible, always in a relaxed and reliable way - following with his father, a perfect cooker preparing the best food (especially desserts!) every breakfast, lunch and dinner. My boy also managed to play pool with Helder’s little cute kid, Beni, and really enjoyed his time up there. Btw Helder is a pro fisher of Arapaima: if you are into fishing contact him!Written 12 August 2024
- odins1460 contributionsThe perfect jungle adventureOur Amazon tour in Tapiri Floating Lodge was amazing! We travelled there in the middle of march and experienced four days packed with adventure, sightseeing and good company. Our main guide Marcus was the man with the plan. Such an awesome guy and rich of knowledge. Also as our guide we had Juan, which was the ultimate badass, being born and raised in the jungle. One of the best activities was our hike through the jungle and the constant knowledge sharing. Trees that walk through the jungle, seeds monkeys use as combs, tree sap which works as nature's paraffin and much, much more. The guides were also really patient with us regarding our wish to go look for animals. We saw dolphins, sloths, monkeys, Tucans, kaymans and many more. We also slept outdoors in the jungle one night which was somewhat scary, but the guides made us as safe as possible, arranging their hammocks on either side of the tourists'. Listening to sound of the jungle, the wall like thickness of it, and the smells. Incredible. In addition our accommodation at Tapiri Floating Lodge was really good. We fell in love the food, especially tasting Pirarucu for the first time. The air condition worked well, wifi was supreme and the bathroom was clean and tidy. The comfortable accommodation really mattered to be able to relax and get the most out of the adventures. All in all a perfect introduction to the jungle with awesome guides and great accommodation. Peace and love from Nora and Odin :)Written 12 April 2024

- Claire H0 contributions5D/4N Amazon survival tourWow! What a trip. If you are after something a little more challenging and want to live outside your comfort zone for a few days this is the tour for you! It’s pretty tough living conditions, but if you’re up for sleeping in hammocks, living by candle light, making meals by campfire and being in nature you will have a great time! We booked the 4 night / 5 day survival tour in the Amazon with Joshua. Our guides Toniel and Captain Frank were great and made it an exciting, fun and interesting tour and worked hard to make sure my wife and I had a great experience and experienced/saw what the Amazon had to offer. We were fortunate enough to catch glances of the Amazon wildlife that we had travelled far to see including monkeys (Squirrel, Saki, Black Howler, Brown Woolly and Capuchin), river dolphins (Amazon and Tucuxi), Black Caiman, Piranha and Yellow-spotted River Turtle. We are also super stoked to have seen a romp of Giant River Otters! A highlight for us was cooking up Peacock Bass and Arawana on a fire by the river after catching it that day! Although not sure if this is standard for the tour as I brought along a personal rod and a few lures that did the trick! All of the organisation, food (FYI you are not expected to catch your food to eat, they bring plenty), travel to the jungle was well thought out and easy. Joshua was also very accomodating in changing the itinerary to suit our request. We travelled in January which I believe is at the start of wet season and the water levels were rising but still fairly low. After speaking with our guides it seems as though wildlife spotting and access to the jungle is best at the end of the wet season, prior to the water level retreating. I would recommend Joshua’s Amazon Expeditions for an Amazon survival tour in the Manaus region. Thanks Toniel, Captain Frank and Joshua!Written 21 January 2024
- 184jasperl0 contributionsCrocs, dolphins, monkeys, piranhas, what’s not to loveOne of the biggest highlights of our entire South America trip was spending 4 days in the Amazon with Joshua’s expeditions. Our jungle guide, Toniel and captain João were the real deal. Toniel was born in the jungle, catches caiman with his bare hands and tells you campfire stories about his encounters with jaguars. Hearing about his way of life and getting to see his passion for the jungle was inspiring. Everything was super well organised and never felt rushed. Staying at Tapiri lodge was excellent. The food in camp and facilities were top notch with a diet of fish they catch daily from the same river you spend your days navigating. The family running it are super friendly and have some unusual pets, Felipe the caiman was our favourite. I’ll never get bored of sitting on the deck watching river dolphins jumping out of the water just outside your room. Could not recommend more highly.Written 3 January 2024
- KathrinP00 contributionsPerfect 3d/2n tour with stay at Samauma LodgeWe did a 3 days/2 nights tour and stayed at Samauma Lodge. Thanks to Joshua‘s organization and flexibility we were able to change our trip according to our wishes. The Samauma Lodges was really great. It floats on the water and is the perfect spot to do tours on water and land. We got delicious food and had a really nice room. Our guide in the jungle was a local who owned Samauma Lodge with his wife. He showed us really great things in the jungle and spotted rare animals. We would totally do the same tour again!Written 3 December 2023

Our stay at Tapiri lodge was exceptional, in all different aspects. My husband and I spent only two days there because of our hectic schedule. The lodge was comfortable and located in a magical part of the Rio Negro, near the Anavilhanas Archipelago, close to other caboclo villages, but very isolated and quiet, with a fantastic sunrise seen by the porch of the lodge (don't miss it!). The food there is all home-cooked and really delicious. The owner and his family are lovely and very hospitable. The experience was wholesome and unique. We had a fantastic guide, Kenedy, who spoke excellent English and was very communicative and knowledgable, who accommodated our schedule & mood and helped us get the most out of the trip. The company JoshuasAmazonExpeditions did a great job putting together a very demanding schedule for us, because of our limited time and unlimited wishes, and all the folks who we worked with (staff, drivers and local support) were great and very professional. Salute to our excellent boat driver Eduardo from the local village who did a fantastic job selecting the sites in the area to go fishing and night sailing. Thank you for the great experience guys!

The lodge family, staff and guides at Tapiri are great, really nice folks. The cabins are fine 4mtr x 4 mtr rooms with bathroom attached, and an air conditioner. Kind of 2 star furnishings, sheets, etc, but it is a jungle setting. If you are new to jungles, this is a fine start to your learning experience. The best experience here is swimming with the pink dolphins - fantastic!
Having said that, the Rio Negro in October has probably 1/3 the animals and birds and 1/5th the fish varieties that occur downstream of Manaus on the Amazon, because of the pH of the dark water at around 4.5pH - highly acid. If you want to come to Rio Negro you should probably come at the end of June after the rainy season while the wildlife is still around before the water is retreating and getting more acid. Or, as we did, went to the Amazon area below Manaus after (or instead of) where the wildlife is still abundant all the time. Just my suggestion. Again, some really nice people here, and in the villages, etc... but compared to downstream of Manaus, not the best for wildlife including lack of birds which need fish to feed on.

We had a great time on our trip with Josh's Amazon tours. While only 2 nights we covered a lot of ground with plenty of time for relxing in hammocks. Advice would be to chat with you guide everyday about what you want to do, we quicky found out the itinerary is there as a starting base and can change depending on weather or something else you want to do. We also met others on the trip, our group was small but also at the lodge. Enjoy!

This was a fantastic tour. It was everything it advertised and more. From the outset dealing with Joshua was effortless- he responded quickly clearly and after our initial and enquires and then follow up questions we had the tour booked in a couple of hours (we were in Brazil time).
The tour was everything it advertised and more. Our guide, Pepe, was very knowledgeable about the animals and jungle in particular and he went out oof his way to make sure we had a good experience. The cabins at the Tucan are simple (it is the Amazon) but have everything you need including efficient air conditioning and a fan and the setting is spectacular. The food in the lovely dining room was very good including daily samples of Amazon fish. There is also a large open deck with hammocks for the middle of the day when all the animals were escaping the heat. I would highly recommend this tour.

We visited the Amazon from the US and brought our whole family. Joshua and his team were fantastic. They went above and beyond and even picked us up at the airport to take us to our hotel and dropped us off after. Joshua communicates with you personally the entire time and you always have his cell #. Our guides were outstanding (Ken and Cobra, along with the boat drivers) and spoke fluent English. Very good food, customer service, they didn't nickel and dime or pressure us for anything... Our favorites were visiting a local tribe and some of the people living along the river. Piranha fishing and seeing the wildlife were really cool. There are a lot of terrifying bugs around, but when your lodge is 20 feet from the Amazon river in the middle of the jungle, that's part of the experience. The rooms were very clean and well maintained. We had a great time and would recommend it to everyone.

Joshua’s is just an amazing experience! We are a
family of 5, with kids of 11, 9 and 5 years old. Everything about the trip was easy…all the logistical details were taken care of for the entire trip from start to finish. The tour itself was private, which gave us flexibility to adjust, something we appreciated as a family with young kids. And the experience itself was incredible! Our only regret is that we only stayed two nights!

Unfortunately our flight was delayed into Manaus and we were late for the first day activities, but 1 quick call to Joshua and he had arranged a new driver to collect us from the airport when we landed who took us straight to the lodge and the rest of the tour.
Joshua was very professional and spoke very good English. He kept in contact with me throughout the whole delay ensuring we made it onto our new flight and that there were no issues.
The jungle experience was incredible and we were lucky to have Matias as a guide who also spoke perfect English and knew the rainforest like the back of his hand. The experience was amazing and would strongly recommend this to all everyone.

Joshua's brother Marco collected us from the airport & took us to our hotel for 1 night before our tour. Then collected us again early next morning to take us into the Amazon. It surpassed our expectations, it was really well organised & great customer service. To wake up in the morning & see grey dolphins swimming past our lodge was a delight. Titan our guide, his wife & 6 year old son were lovely & looked after us very well.

What is the difference between this tour and the floating lodge tour? Are both rooms Air conditioned? Do both tours swim with the dolphins??
Written 8 July 2019
We stayed at Boca do Juma which is a floating lodge, I think there were 8 rooms and they all had air con. We didn't swim with the dolphins, I'm not sure if they do this.
