- kimsF331XH0 contributionsGreat ExperienceGreat experience seeing the sunrise at Mount Batur. Our guides Leon and Garis were awesome. Pickup/drop off from the hotel was efficient. Ending at the hot springs was a nice way to end an early morning.Written 13 March 2025
- pixelfixx0 contributionsGreat ExperienceWe opted to go for the Mount Batur sunrise trek and hot springs. Our driver, Tomblos, was in contact a couple of days before to confirm contact information and pickup. He was at our hotel before the pickup time and we left promptly. It was 2:30am and he drove us through Ubud and out through the pitch dark countryside with confidence. We arrived at the start point in time to have a hot drink at the café while our guide Yulia issued our equipment - stout bamboo walking poles and a head torch. We shouldered our backpacks and Yulia checked we had rain jackets before setting off. Leaving on the road, we quickly turned off to a farm track which led us to the start of the path up to the summit. I had been having difficulty, needing my asthma inhaler almost immediately. After a short while trying to push on through it I decided to turn back because I didn't want to risk the others in our group missing sunrise or cause any problems or danger to anyone on the path. Yulia checked I knew the route back and called Tomblos to meet me at the foot of the path. I started back, and encountered several groups on their way up who each checked I was OK and knew where I was going. Everyone was incredibly helpful. Tomblos met me at the road as I couldn't remember if we'd turned left or right there, and we walked back to the cafe. I felt safe and very well looked after at every moment, which allowed my partner to continue to the summit with peace of mind. The hike was his Christmas gift after all! My partner did confirm that it was the right decision; the path got steeper and harder going (but he also confirmed it's worth it). Which brings me to my suggestions: 1. If you have asthma, perhaps reconsider 2. Hiking boots or sport shoes are recommended. I believe there's a misinterpretation that sport shoes includes fashion trainers. Many on the path were wearing flimsy fashion shoes that couldn't support their wearers with the steep slope and looser surfaces. I would NOT recommend trainers. We wore tough hiking boots and needed them 3. Make sure to have some cash with you. There are vendors along the way and at the top and they got up earlier than you did :) Special mention for our younger guide, Gede - you're the OG and thank you for staying with my boyfriend. He was wowed by your ability to run up the mountain and I was impressed with your photography. Well done on both counts. We have awesome memories of this morning because of you!Written 19 February 2025
- gardnep0 contributionsGreat day spent on my baturWhat a brilliant day. Nawee our guide and driver for the day messaged the day before to confirm pickup times. Came exactly as he said. Very good driver and had a lovely drive to coffee plantation. Although we had already done onenwas great to see local business. He then drove us to the jeep tour with a small stop on the way for pics. Leon was our 4 x 4 driver and was excellent. Told us about the area and what was grown. He took us back to the hot spring for a couple of hours. Such a lovely place. Nawee then took us for lunch. WOW what a setting and 1st class food. Many thanks to Nawee and Leon for a great day. Highly recommend.Written 13 February 2025
- Passenger310082234030 contributionsOne Bucket List Item Checked 99999 to GoI recently joined a sunrise trekking tour at Mt. Batur, and it was an incredible experience. My driver, Mr. Andi, was professional and drove us safely to the meeting point. Our guide, Mr. Jordan, was fantastic, helping our group of four (including fellow travelers from Europe) reach the summit in just 74 minutes. The sunrise, though not perfect, was breathtaking. Mr. Jordan surprised us with a delicious breakfast at the top, which made the moment even better. Out of nowhere, a group of monkeys appeared, rushing to grab our leftovers. They weren’t aggressive or interested in our belongings—just there for the food. It was such an unexpected and memorable encounter! After descending, we had a relaxing soak in the hot springs before wrapping up the day. The tour was very well-organized, and both Mr. Andi and Mr. Jordan went above and beyond. Highly recommended!Written 20 December 2024
- Guide283916489820 contributionsReally worth it!Really worth it. The climb is doable if your fitness is on a good basic level, but don’t underestimate it. It could get slippery and rocky at some steep points but also very fun! Our driver Eri was very kind and our guide Wekan was very helpful at difficult points and made sure we had a safe trip (also a very good photographer too). An experience you won’t forget.Written 8 December 2024
- Mads J0 contributionsAmazing trip to the top of BaturWe were picked up by our driver Nawa, who spoke excellent English. He arrived at the agreed time and despite the potholed road, he drove comfortably. We arrived at the place where we were going to hike, and before the trip to the top began we were given headlamps and information. Our guide to the top is called Cho Cho and did his job to perfection. He was talkative and pleasant. The view at the top was a bit scary but okay considering we came in December. After the mountain hike, Nawa was ready again by the car and was ready to drive us to a coffee plantation where we were allowed to taste some different coffees and teas. All in all, an excellent trip with good memories and experiences.Written 6 December 2024
- shanec7070 contributionsA long day but worth the effort.A great adventure, challenged by the weather and recovered by our guides. Tekila was our driver and made sure we got where we needed to be safely, he was great with the banter with my teens and made the drive move quickly. Dedik gave us a great ride up the Mountain, having the area to ourselves was priceless. Thanks both for a great day.Written 5 December 2024
