- 601asafs0 contributionsA must experience for star loversA unique experience for watching the stars, understanding what’s above us. The tour happens in a very dark environment where you can easily see the stars. Together with the guidance of Nadav our guide we were taken into a unique experience of diving deep into the universe.Written 14 June 2024
- dafnag20240 contributionsGreat for familiesRappelling with Boaz was a highlight of our trip to Israel in December. He provided us with the right balance of thrill and safety. I was surprised that my son (and husband) were hesitant to participate, but Boaz gently coaxed them into building their confidence and they both ended up really enjoying the experience and my son was especially proud of himself for pushing through his fears. I really appreciate the individual attention Boaz provided. An important part of the experience of travelling is getting to know the people and Boaz understood that intuitively. He made us feel like this was a unique experience for him, too. I highly recommend this for any level of climbing.Written 7 January 2024

- Sue L0 contributionsJeep tour of the Mitzpe Ramon craterMy friend and I did a 2 hour tour of the crater with a wonderful knowledgeable guide Boaz, who went out of his way to make our tour memorable and exciting. His knowledge and passion for the area is incredible and we learned and saw so much and we even experienced some rain - in June! We would highly recommend this tour and would happily do it again one day. Such a treat. Thank you Boaz!Written 19 June 2023
- Jack J0 contributionsBest way to see the craterWhat a great experience. Boaz was knowledgeable, friendly. Frankly I cannot say enough about how perfect a guide he is. We saw a lot and learned a lot. Botany, hydrology, geology and history. And all of that was interesting and fun. Very hands on. Don’t stay in the hotel, spend a couple of hours in the crater.Written 27 February 2023
- Liora2939830 contributionsBest experience! We were 19 people ((including babies) for a tour. Seated in three jeeps headed by Boaz, we had a fantastic experience. Boaz and the other 2 guides (Gilead and Moshe) who drove the Jeeps were highly knowledgeable, explained everything, and answered every question. I wholeheartedly recommend this kind of tour!Written 20 December 2022

- Ed N0 contributionsExtraordinary, Extraordinary, Extraordinary!!!!!!If you are planning a visit to Mitzpe Ramon be sure to book a jeep tour of the crater with Desert Prime in advance, as you won't want to miss out on this fantastic experience. We have jreturned from just such a tour only moments ago (my second jeep tour of the maktesh) and this was far superior to my first tour some 25 years ago. I found Desert-Prime online and Boaz was immediately responsive via email to reserve the date and time. We were in touch several times prior to arriving in Mitzpe Ramon and Boaz never failed with a quick answer. As we had planned, he met us in the lobby of our hotel and moments later we were whisked away for the best tour we've been on in a long time -- perhaps our best tour ever!! The tour itself was nothing short of amazing, incredible, and extraordinary. We opted for the two-hour Ramon Crater Jeep Tour and loved every minute of the off-road visit. This is not your run-of-the-mill geology lesson, but a tour of an amazing ecosystem in which we were introduced to the geology, flora, fauna, and even paleontology of what is found in the crater. Maktesh Ramon is not a typical crater, the result of a meteor, volcano, or some other violent phenomenon. It is the end product of millions of years of erosion of a massive mountain that removed a top layer of crust that covered the mountain, allowing annual rains to wash away the subsurface sands and stones to form a massive maktesh, what some would call a crater. Once off road, Boaz made frequent stops to show us the geologic features of sandstone, limestone, black basalt, gypsum, as well as pointing out the wadis. The tour was more than examining rocks and riverbeds. Boaz stopped to show us the plants that live in the arid climate and moon-like landscape, showing us one plant that dries up into a small fist holding seeds until a little rain comes to open up what remains of the plant to wash seeds into the soil. The demonstration included a single such plant placed in a jar of water, which opened to reveal its seeds and that will close when dry again. Another plant was what I believe was the Jointed Anabis (Hebrew: יפרוק המדבר, yafruk hamidbar), in which Boaz placed some of the joints into a mortar and pestle and crushed the plant to show us how it could be rubbed into the skin and with a little water lathered into a soap. It left our skin feeling soft and refreshed!! Showing us Acacia Trees, Boaz explained how the longer and smaller thorns prevent different kinds of animals from easily eating the little greenery that remains in the hot desert climate. Moreover, he explained that when the Ibex feed upon Acacia Trees they will have their fill and then move to an entirely different cluster of Acacia trees elsewhere. Botanists have learned that in addition to long and short thorns, the Acacia tree has other defenses - a sap that is quickly released and gives off a bitter flavor Ibex don't like when the tree is threatened and releasing a gas that causes surrounding trees to also exude the sap, hence the reason that the Ibex migrate to clusters of Acacias rather than feed off of each tree in a cluster. Another stop provided us with fossilized clams and other ancient sea creatures, revealing what was a thriving ocean floor ecosystem of hundreds of millions of years back. This was no ordinary jeep tour. Boaz is entranced by the beauty and the features of the maktesh and he shares his love for the landscape as he explains the harsh beauty that surrounds you. Moreover, Boaz is personable, outgoing, and he exudes an unparalleled excitement as he drives you through the maktesh. This was unquestionably one of the best tours we've been on -- not just in Israel, but anywhere we have traveled. A tour is made or broken by the tour guide. Some speak with enthusiasm, others can be a bit dull. Boaz did more than speak with enthusiasm -- he spoke with a love and respect for the Maktesh Ramon like we have not experienced elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a morning, an afternoon, or an entire day with Boaz. You will not be disappointed!!Written 25 May 2022
- Ruth W0 contributionsRappelling and 4 X 4 tour of the ramon craterWe did rappelling in the ramon crater and the 4 X 4 ramon crater tour. We were a group of 5 with a mix of teens and tweens. Boaz did a great job making everyone comfortable rappelling. My kids were overjoyed to get to do the rappel more than once. The rappelling was followed by the 4 x 4 tour of the crater where Boaz introduced us to the unique Flora and Fauna in the crater as well as all the interesting features of the crater with lots of hands on demonstrations to keep everyone engaged. Boaz is very Friendly and knowledgable. He answered our copious amounts of questions. The Ramon crater is a beautiful place to visit and I highly recommend Boaz to help guide you through the crater.Written 3 May 2022
- Don_Nadel20140 contributionsGet a great understanding of the Ramon crater - the makhtesh geology and areaBoaz provided very clear explanations about the formation and evolution of the crater. He spoke in a way appropriate to my non-scientist wife while at the same time giving new information to me with some background in geology. He made the tour fun and interesting by having us touch and examine rocks and plants, not just talking about them. He also drove carefully up and down in his very comfortable 4x4 which was surprisingly smooth over the craziest surfaces. This was important because we were worried about the impact on our old bodies but it was really no problem.Written 22 November 2021

We took the four hour tour of the crater with Boaz. His knowledge of geology and history are wide ranging but what we really enjoyed was his enthusiasm. We saw the crater for the first time while Boaz sees it daily - however he clearly loves what he does so much that we were caught up with his excitement. Very highly recommended!

Wow. Boaz is incredible. His tour is interactive, informative, and altogether incredible. The kids loved the hands-on things he incorporated: finding clay, knapping flint to make an arrowhead, grinding up a special plant that turns into soap when you add water.
We learned so much that morning, it felt like we must have covered a year of school science and geography curriculum in just a few hours.
Boaz was friendly and flexible; when my husband wanted to do a little hiking or climbing, Boaz found a spot to pull over that would give us a good path and the best view. He didn't mind taking a bit of extra time to make our experience perfect for us.

Boaz came to our hotel right on time. He was a very pleasant and considerate guide explaining all about the origins of the crater in excellent English and answering our many questions. He drove extremely carefully over the terrain which was at times very challenging. We had a fantastic trip with him and would recommend him to others and book him again.

Nice tour and plenty of information by Boez. He is a smart and really nice and well prepared guide. We made a tour in the desert learning some of geology, science and history. The place is fantastic and we had the chance to see Ibex and footprints of the striped hyena and other small mammals (foxes..).
Good contacts with Meirav to organize the tour. Great experience.

Our tour of the crater was absolutely amazing. Our guide, Boaz, was incredibly knowledgeable and explained the geological formations, as well as the plants and insects in a way that was interesting to all ages in the group (9 to 47). I cannot recommend this tour, and Boaz in particular, enough.

We met at Mitzpe Ramon visitor's center. Boaz was on time and patiently waited for us even that we were a few minutes late.
Boaz did geological presentation explaining how the crater was formed, it was informative and fun at the same time and kids loved it. He showed us various desert flowers and amazing views of the crater.

Thanks to the excellent tour of Maktesh Ramon with Boaz and Desert-Prime, we fell in love with the place and cannot wait to come back. We took the four-hour tour of the maktesh (two active seniors with our granddaughters, ages 6 and 9 years). Boaz had a great rapport with the kids and the adults; he showed us the amazing flora that adapt to the desert environment, made the rocks come to life before our eyes, and did a far better job explaining the theory on how the maktesh was created than the visitor center. His jeep was clean and comfortable and we covered a lot of territory, seeing different aspects of the maktesh. We had plenty of interactive stops and even a short hike. The girls were very sad when the tour was over. On our next visit to Maktesh Ramon (and there must be a next visit!) we hope to hike with him and do the night sky program.

Please be dressed warm enough when you take in the site. Plus the sun and wind you need to be careful standing next to the edge. Early in the morning is best time to view. But its awesome. There are 3 craters and there wonders of the world.
