This was a lovely experience! They arranged a driver to pick me up and then we went to the big outdoor market where she explained about local vegetables, many of which were completely new to me. After we picked out our ingredients, we went by tuk out to her home in the village outside the city. The location is quiet and green, and the special traditional kitchen was beautiful and very clean. Together we prepared nine dishes cooking in clay pots on a traditional wood stove and a propane stove. I learned how to prepare the vegetables and mix the spices, as well as traditional coconut preparation. The ladies prepared spices and herbs ahead of time, and cleaned as we went so everything was very smooth and easy. The taste of the food was amazing with so much fresh produce and delicious spices. I learned so much and had a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this class to anyone who enjoys cooking and Sri Lankan food.

It was a fantastic experience! The class had a home-cooking feel as we learned to prepare over seven delicious, authentic Sri Lankan dishes. Our teacher was incredibly knowledgeable, walking us through each dish with insight and expertise. Her passion for Sri Lankan cuisine was evident, and she created a warm, friendly atmosphere that made us all feel right at home.
With a small group of six, it was the perfect size for personalized guidance and a great social vibe. The class was well-organized, and everything was set up seamlessly. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in Sri Lankan food or looking for an engaging, hands-on cooking experience!

Five stars simply isn't enough for Shyama and Kumari, wonderful experience! We were picked up in a tuk tuk and taken directly to a fruit and veg market where we chose our desired ingredients. Their village is located a little further away from Kandy city, offering lush green views and a traditional Sri Lankan set up outside Shyama's home. They were both incredibly informative and friendly, I would recommend this cooking class to anyone who enjoys Sri Lankan food and wants to experience something more authentic.

Wow! I cannot recommend this cooking course more! Our teacher Shyama has the most gorgeous authentic Sri Lankan space for cooking in.
She started the experience by meeting us at the local market and there we selected and bought vegetables to cook with. We then were taken through cooking a number of dishes - about 8 in total!! Shyama was an excellent teacher showing us what to do but also giving us plenty of time to then cook ourselves, making it very interactive. She was happy for us to take many photos too!
We then enjoyed eating the food at the end - overall absolutely brilliant session and cannot recommend it highly enough!!

This cooking class was just AMAZING, the best food we had in Sri lanka!
And the most important: our Host Shyama was the nicest person, very friendly and welcoming!
Make sure your Book the cooking class with the market tour! She took time to inform us about all the different vegetables, made us pick our favorite and the ones we wanted to try/cook, also gave us option of meat/fish/vegetarian option!
We cooked more than 10 dishes, all DELICIOUS (eggplant curry, egg curry or the pancakes were our personal favorite! ) and she gave us all the recipes afterward to do It again at home!
We were only the 3 of us so we could really speak with our host which is great!
We RECOMMAND this cooking class 100%!! We already did a few cooking and this one was the best!
Thank again!! We had an Amazing Time!

The whole experience and cooking class was exceptional. Our hosts were super friendly and even in such a large group of 15, we all felt very involved and learnt loads about local cuisine. Definitely the best meal we ate in Sri Lanka, would highly recommend and great value for money

Firstly before even starting this class we happened to be on cafe and had just booked the class and over heard a lady raving about this cooking class. Shyama was so charming and knowledgeable. She took us around the vegetable market with such grace. We were exposed to many vegetables we hadn't seen before and Shyama took the time to explain their use. On arrival to her beautiful home, set back in the mountains we were greeted with warmth and delicious cup of Sri Lankan tea. We did the cooking class in a traditional Sri Lankan clay outdoor kitchen. Shyama and her assistant Amali were so patient and made the recipes easy to follow. Shyama passion shone through in every single one of the 12 dishes. She showed us how versatile all the ingredients were. We ended with a delicious coconut pancake. Thank you for making mine and husbands truly wonderful.

This was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. Immediately after booking on TA, Shyama got in touch to introduce herself and confirm the details which was very comforting and we knew then that we had chosen the right cooking class. On the day, we met in front of Kandy market and Shyama took us around the stalls introducing us to many different fruits and vegetables. It would have been impossible to learn about them ourselves. Shyama took good care of us and was very warm and caring with the children. After the market, we went to Shyama’s village and her outdoor kitchen which is an amazing location for the class. Patiently, calmly and clearly, Shyama gave us instructions and modeled how to prepare and cook the dishes. The food was delicious and we had a feast of traditional Sri Lankan food. Shyama looked after us so well and the experience was amazing. Thank you so much!

On January 18th we took this private cooking class. Our host and her assistant were very flexible in order to let it fit our schedule and welcoming once we arrived. The class is somewhat out of Kandy, but worth the drive (we had a driver but I believe pickup is also possible). The setting in a quiet village (you're actually cooking in the village kitchen) is one of the best ones we've had so far.
We cooked a total of nine curries, and doing so learned the basis of Sri Lankan curries. We did every step of the process ourselves (apart from cutting some basic ingredients) which is really helpful in understanding and remembering what you're doing. We were also happy that we could influence the menu, since it was just the two of us. The Sri Lankan way of cooking is quite different from ours but we didn't just learn about the local traditions but also about how to try this at home, with the products we can find there. The final meals looked great and tasted even better. What was also really nice was the fact that pictures were taken while we were cooking, normally you can't really do that because you're busy and often have dirty hands.
We've done a bunch of cooking classes in SE Asia and central America, and can honestly say this has been one of the best ones. Thank you for this experience!

An amazing experience - fascinating, fun and the resulting curries were delicious!
We started in the market with Shyama who introduced us to local vegetables unknown to us. We selected a bagful of veg, chicken (fish was an option) and eggs and went to her house which was in a village and very quiet.
She showed us how to prepare 12 different dishes and we chopped, sliced, spiced, and cooked as directed by her. It was a very friendly atmosphere and she explained how many curry dishes are prepared every day in a Sri Lankan home.
We finally tasted the dishes and they were delicious. We had cutlery but we chose to eat with our fingers - Sri Lankan style. Shyama then made sweet pancakes for dessert.
If you want a cooking class - this one is excellent. Many thanks for such an experience Shyama.
