What to expect
#MohallaMunch is a food tour which takes you to places that are otherwise not ventured in by tourist. It is a Non Vegetarian food walk. We will taste food at nearly 12-15 different locations. We will also take an excursion to the Chor Bazar and learn about the history of the place along the way. This tour is filled with places which have traditional methods of cooking and are very different from other food products. It is ideal to nurture the foodie within you.  Highlights of the walk: • The Bohri Saga • ‘Musk’ Sandwiches • Khari biscuits with a twist • The Burmese Tawa • Don’s Den • Non-alcoholic Absinthe • Tale of 12 pots • Spiral Gulab Jamun • Hide & Seekh • Khichada King • Hell’s Fire • The original ‘natural’ ice-cream • Udderly Delicious Khiri • ‘Saare Jahan se Accha’ Chowk • And of course, the Biryani without rice!!!

Feel and learn at the same time
We could understand Mumbai by feeling and learning at the same time.
We could not dive deeply in Mumbai without their guide.

Bohri Mohalla Food Walk
May 2018 • Solo
The Khaki Food Walk held in the Bohri Mohalla area of South Mumbai which is now undergoing changes at a very fast pace will make this an experience that will probably not be available once the area is redeveloped completely. This is not just a food walk but also a heritage walk that showcases the local history, architecture and cultural aspects besides the wonderful street food and delicious slow cooked food that one gets to experience only in this precinct.

There are many small but iconic restaurants that are covered in this food walk and their signature dishes are generally not found anywhere else in the city like the seekh kebabs at Al Rahmani restaurant, the pichota (tail portion), nihari (marrow) and bhel (different gravies and body parts mixed together) bara handi with large khamiri rotis at Surti Bara Handi, Fennel seed soda drink at Idris Cold Drinks, Patra Biryani at Firoz Farsan, Musk sandwiches at Jilanis, Khiri (udders) and Kaleji (liver) at Haji Tikka, the hand churned fresh fruit sancha ice cream in different flavours like sitaphal, peru, muskmelon and mango at Taj Ice Creams, the mawa jalebis at JJ Jalebis, the malpuas, barfis, malai khajas and firnis at Tawakkals, sweets and bakery products at Fakhris are some of the halts during this two hour walk through the labyrinths of the Bohri Mohalla.

Sampling a lot of different sweet and savoury foods alternatively just like the Bohris do is what makes this food walk special. Highly recommend this walk for visitors as well as locals who want to get a taste of the local food and culture as well.
