    Dharavi
Stop: 3 hours - Admission included
Asia's largest slum, Dharavi, lies on prime property right in the middle of India's financial capital, Mumbai (Bombay). It is home to more than a million people. Many are second-generation residents, whose parents moved in years ago. In a city where house rents are among the highest in the world, Dharavi provides a cheap and affordable option to those who move to Mumbai to earn their living. Daily wages here can be as low as 185 rupees ($4/£2.20) per day. As Dharavi is located between Mumbai's two main suburban rail lines, most people find it convenient for work. Dharavi also has a large number of thriving small-scale industries that produce embroidered garments, export quality leather goods, pottery, plastic and many more. Most of these products are made in tiny manufacturing units spread across the slum and are sold in domestic as well as international markets. The annual turnover of business here is estimated to be more than $650m (£350m) a year. The state government has plans to redevelop Dharavi and transform it into a modern township, complete with proper housing and shopping complexes, hospitals and schools.

Not what I expected - much better!
Feb 2020
I highly recommend the slum tour. It was the highlight of my visit to Mumbai. This area is full of hardworking people and families doing the best they can with what they have. It was very safe (although not very visually appealing). Make sure you have Vishal or other guide take you to get some tea made by Mahindra (I think that's his name!). It was the best ginger tea I had during my entire stay in India.

Excellent Slums Tour - solo female !!
Feb 2020 • Solo
What an incredible experience to visit the slums & I’m so pleased I booked with this company. My tour guide, Vishal, was extremely knowledgeable & understanding of the community & made sure I also felt comfortable at all times. We even went back to his house for chai after with his family. A really authentic experience. I can’t recommend this tour & Vishal enough. Thank you so much!

Great Private Dharavi Slum Tour and Street Food Tour
We had a fantastic experience with Young Tours and Travel as our tour guides in our short trip to Mumbai!
As it was our first time visiting India we spent a lot of time on the first morning researching different tours... however this tour company stood out as not only were they quick in responding but also able to cater to what we wanted and offered lots of information! So we booked two tours... both the Private street food tour and the private Dharavi slum tour.
The first evening we were picked up by our guide Rahul and his driver and drove directly to our first stop to try some Masala Chai... which was amazing! We learned so much from Rahul about Mumbai and all the different foods and it was wonderful trying all the different types of foods! We stopped at over 6 different places to sample a variety of street foods. As food lovers... we were in paradise!
The following day we were collected and driven to the Dharavi slum where we spent a few hours with Rahul again learning about the various industries and residential areas. It was really informative and our tour ended with a visit to Rahul’s home where we were given some more Masala chai and met his family.

Thank you very much to Young Tours and Travel for a fantastic two days, which we will always remember! When we return to Mumbai in the future, we will be sure to contact for another tour! And will recommend to all of our friends/family!

My friend and I joined the slum tour (2hours). Tour guide Vishal was very nice and helpful. And also Rahul arranged our tour smoothly. His reply was very quick.
The end of the tour, Vishal and Rahul invited us their house, and we had a teasty chai! Thank you :)

MUST DO "Dharavi Slum and Street Art Tour"!
I am a female solo traveller from Singapore. This was my 1st visit to Mumbai. The reasons why I choose Young Tours & Travel company:

1. Mr Rahul, the founder & owner have responded promptly to my email queries and communicated via WhatsApp for meet up details.

2. My guide, Mr Kirtan is a young gentleman who is polite and patience. He has extreme knowledge of Mumbai. Very impressive young man who have a kind heart. I am really touched.

Must do "Dharavi Slum and Street Art Tour", you will then see the life of the people working/living in the slum! It will touched your heart.

Lastly, I want to say 'A BIG THANK YOU' to all the team members' of Young Tours & Travel company for making my 1st trip to Mumbai such a memorable one. I have learnt so much during this trip.

NAMASTE 🙏 from Su Ying, Singapore

An exceptional tour. I had a remarkable young guide, Banny. I received a lot of information about life in a Dharavi slam, and a lot of things to think about. I recommend it to anyone.

Rahul - an excellent guide in Mumbai
Nov 2019 • Business
Many thanks Rahul for the interesting private tour of Mumbai. With your knowledge about India/Mumbai and happy mood we really enjoyed the tour with you.
We had tonnes of questions and you happily answered them all. You showed us the Dhobi Ghat, Gateway of India, Victoria Station (passed by) and finally the slum area which was a really strong experience. So much of hard work, proudness, happiness and gratefulness in that area. The rest of the world could learn a lot from that place.
Many thanks to Rahul for the tour and wish you all good luck with your dreams.
The Malhotra team ;-)

Great tour into what sadly felt like another world. Vishal was wonderful and respectful. Highly recommended!!

I was worried that my tour would be annoying and disrespected to those living there. Tour was mostly I the industrial areas and guide was clear in boundaries as to not be rude. Great tour and you have a chance buy leather goods to support the slums economy.

Awesome experience by and with a real and authentic local

Did the tour just today and my group tour turned out to be a private one which was the first great thing. Tour guid, Vishal, is awesome and really takes his time to tailor make your tour! Since he grew up and still lives in there, he knows all good places and takes good care of you (even got some special tea from his buddy) ! Thank you and I can recommend the tour provider and especially Vishal 100%!

Honored to have this intimate tour

How fantastic to spend a half day with Kirtan visiting this amazing community! It was so interesting to see all the systems functioning in the slum, and the rich community that exists here. We were able to see skins becoming leather goods, old parts becoming saleable plastic pellets, and cloths becoming brilliant textiles. We toured on the holiday Ganesh Chaturthi, and made a few detours within the slum to work our way around the processing revelers. I feel honored to have been invited into a world that I would never be able to experience on my own, and to have my many questions answered by a wonderful guide who knows and loves this community. I leave Mumbai so grateful for this time together. If you have a few hours, this is one wonderful way to spend it. You'll be glad you did. Young Tours was recommended to me by a colleague, and I couldn't have been happier. Thanks for all you do Kirtan!
