Meet Kamala at her airy, traditional home about an hour outside of Chennai. Kamala is an excellent homecook and has spent many years perfecting Chettinad food. The Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu is famous for its focus on aromatic flavors and use of freshly ground spices in predominately non-vegetarian dishes. During your hands-on cooking lesson Kamala will teach you to prepare 2-3 dishes and you will then enjoy them along with dishes that may have been prepared in advance. Dishes you might sample are Chettinad chicken, minced mutton (goat) nuggets, egg dosa, fish curry, jackfruit masala, and addictive, piping hot dosas (crepes made with fermented rice batter) fresh off the griddle, all served on a fresh banana leaf.
Please note, this is not a professional cooking class, rather this experience is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share South Indian culture and cuisine together.
Kamala's home is about 1 hour outside of central Chennai by car, so please leave enough time for the drive.
