About
Our city has witnessed many more cultures in its past than most others would even in this globalised present. Here we will trace for you the origins and remains of the varied communities that hung their boots and called Calcutta home. Lets check out why Chinese breakfast still rules Tiretta Bazar, where the Parsis are dwindling in numbers with each passing day and how the Armenians gave the city its oldest surviving Christian church while we pass the Anglo-Indians, the Muslims, the Marwaris, the Biharis and many more that made this city a great melting pot of diverse cultures. This is one of our most popular tours and highly recommended to get an idea of the melting pot that Calcutta is.

A brilliant walk, led by Mr Ramanauj. He answered all our questions and conducted the walk so patiently!

Learnt so much!

Highly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in history, cultures and religions and wants to have a splendid start to the day.

PS: The food during the walk was great too :)

Review of experience
Feb 2020 • Friends
I had the privilege to use services of Calcutta Walks with my friends. It was a unique experience. The tourist guide Mr.Ritwick was so knowledgeable and friendly that our experience became an unforgettable one. He is a walking encyclopaedia of knowledge of the facts and history of Calcutta. He is the most advisable person to be a tour guide. His familiarity of the town is very helpful. I would highly recommend him to anyone as a tour guide to make your journey a memorable one.

Kolkata Walk With Ritwick
Dec 2019
On the Christmas Day, we had a full day walking tour with a very personable and knowledgeable guide Mr. Ritwick Ghosh. That turned out to be fabulous. I had my folks with me and Ritwick engaged us with the hidden history, local knowledge and his humor. We got to have some authentic local food and drinks. All this at the right pace to suit my older parents. We ended up going back to some of the same places and some others recommended by Ritwick over the next couple days we were in Kolkata. Highly recommend this tour and Ritwick.

History comes alive
Nov 2019 • Business
Was on a business trip to Kolkata last year.Since I had the weekend off,I asked the concierge at Sonar Bangla for something to learn about the rich heritage of Kolkata. He suggested Calcutta Walks. The tour conducted by Ritwick opened up the annals of history as it came alive through his baritone. His knowledge of the byelanes and anecdotes related to the days of the Raj was mesmerizing to say the least. This is the tour one cannot afford to miss. Go for it.

Calcutta Walks trip with host Ritwick
Jan 2020 • Couples
Calcutta Walks is a wonderful way to discover the city of Kolkata ... whatever one has learnt through history books seems so inadequate when the knowledgeable host Ritwick starts his passionate rendition of the history, language and evolution of traditions. As you walk along with him through the bylanes, he brings alive various facets of this amazing city. A truly memorable experience and would recommend it as a "must do" activity for all age groups.

Calcutta Walks with Ritwick
Dec 2019 • Friends
I would strongly recommend Calcutta Walks to all visitors to Kolkata. Ritwick is a terrific host and regaled us with amazing nuggets of information ranging from historical perspectives to the buzz off the street. You'll fall in love with the rich history, culture and syncretic evolution of this City of Joy brought alive so evocatively by our knowledgeable host.
