Discover some of China’s favorite dumplings, including Shanghai’s signature xiaolongbao, from your foodie guide—and learn to cook Cantonese shrimp dumplings from a chef. Tour is limited to 10 people for a more intimate feel.

  • Discover the French Concession on a culinary walking tour
  • Tour and class are limited to 10 people for a more intimate atmosphere
What to expect
  • Meet your guide and small group in central Shanghai and stroll the former French Concession, a charming colonial-era area. Taste up a storm as you discover the city’s myriad dumpling styles. Savor up to eight samples, including jiaozi (favored in northern China), hun tun (wontons), guotie (pan-fried dumplings), and, of course, Shanghai’s favorite xiaolongbao (soup-filled dumplings). After learning about the meaning of food in Shanghai, it’s time for a cooking class. We love your tours!!
Jan 2021
This was my third Untour Food Tour and I was not disappointed! Although we consider Shanghai a second home, it was nice to learn & try something new during our "staycation" this holiday. These are great tours for couples, groups of friends or solos looking to connect with great people from the local area. Paul was a fun & knowledgable tour guide and we appreciate all of his thoughtful suggestions and connections (even off the clock!).

It should also be noted that the customer service is 5-star and a pleasure to work with :) We can't wait for our next tour!

Thanks so much for this amazing review, Alison! We strive to present something novel about the local food scene, whether it’s their first time in the city or if it's their second home. Hope you enjoy your staycation and we can't wait to have you again!

Fun feast for friends & family :)
Oct 2020
Paul did a great job guiding us, telling us things about the neighborhood and answering questions as well as organizing the different kinds of dumplings for us. It is great to see how he really enjoys the food and is patient to answer every possible question you come up with. And making dumplings myself just made me have so much more appreciation for them. Great fun experience!

Who knew there were so many delicious dumplings!
Jan 2020
We had already done one Untour, and decided to do another one. Topher was our guide for a fabulous tour of the many varied ways you can make a dumpling, culminating in us making our very own dumplings to eat or take away. Two reasons to do this tour rather than try and do it by yourself - one is that you get a fabulous variety, with explanations, of all the ways to cook a dumpling, that it would be very challenging to figure out even if you read and spoke Chinese. The other is that the sharing makes it a perfect way to taste a few dumplings without overloading on one type. Plus the lesson at the end! Wonderful.

FUN TOUR AND COOKING CLASS!
Dec 2019
Had a WONDERFUL time on this Dumpling Tour! Topher was a wonderful guide and we really enjoyed the knowledge he brought to our tour with a history lesson included. It was fun to eat like a local and try all of the different dumplings (and who knew there was a delicious DESSERT dumpling)? The cooking class at the end was a fun hands-on event in a very clean, tucked away kitchen. Really enjoyed this tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Shanghai. Would highly recommend!

Kate was a fantastic tour guide leading us on a dumpling adventure. The cooking class gave us a small insight into the skills required to make these little clouds of deliciousness.
