          Shanghai Old Chinese City Tour
Lily was extremely knowledgeable and was able to provide insight into many hidden details of the history that is embedded within the neighborhood that we explored in Shanghai. She was also able to do an amazing job of switching between Chinese and English so everyone could follow. I would highly recommend her and would love to go on another tour with her.

Had an amazing time with Lily on the Old City Wall tour. Our group was mixed with some only English and only Chinese speaking, and Lily did an outstanding job in both languages, professionally managing translation. Lily is very knowledgable and her love of her hometown shows. A great activity for tourists and long time Shanghai residents alike. I'm eager to try her other tours of CCP sites, French Concession, and more.

Interesting, articulate, kind – Lily is superb
Lily is just about the best tour guide you could ask for. Articulate and ultra well informed, her historic Hongkou Asian settlement tour will make you see Shanghai in a totally different light – and isn't that what tour guides are for? She's also an extremely thoughtful and kind guide, taking care of all the details to ensure a smooth experience. Cannot recommend her highly enough – the best of the best, basically. And it's not easy to find people this good!

          Very Knowledgeable Guide
Thank you, Lily, for a totally unique tour of Jing'an. This tour will take you off the beaten track to places not usually featured on tourist itineraries of Shanghai. Highly recommended if you want to see some of the more interesting parts of the city.

Old city and Confucius Temple tour
The demolition of Laoximen, Shanghai's old city, is well underway and 90% of its residents have already moved out. This tour was a real opportunity to see that area for the last time before it is all gone. Our guide Lily gave us tons of interesting information about the architecture and the daily life in Laoximen. And even if we have lived in Shanghai for 13 years now, we managed to learn new facts about our adoptive city! The highlight for us was the time spent at ShuyinLou, a very secretive mansion built in the 16th century. We were the only ones visiting on that morning and Lily gave us plenty of time to explore the premises on our own, always providing us with stories about this magical place. Our last stop at the Confucius Temple was very informative and interesting too. It was such a pleasure to spend the day with Lily. Right from the start she was friendly and enthusiastic even if it was already 40 degrees at 9:30am :) We loved the fact that she was flexible, adjusting the walk based on our interests, and very knowledgeable about the whole area. I definitely recommend her even if you have lived in Shanghai for a long time. Xiexie Lily!

          Red Route Tour - Shanghai
My 11-year old daughter and I were taken around Shanghai on Red Route Tour. I highly recommend it even for pre-teens. My daughter loved it -- all three hours! We went to the building in the French Concession area where the Communist Party was formed and also a private museum of modern Chinese propaganda style posters. What could have been a dry museum trip was made exciting by our tour guide Lily who is fluent in Chinese and English and also the memorabilia on display. She had lots of interesting anecdotes and some personal stories. I've lived in Greater China for over twenty years as a Chinese speaking expat with stints in HK and Beijing yet learnt many interesting new facts about and insights into modern China. I suggest doing this tour and then watching the films produced by CCTV for the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of Communist China and of the Party. Keep an open mind. Two riveting and separate tales. All the elements of any best seller: spies, war and revolution, loss, love and betrayal, brotherhood and also a neat insight into the evolution of women's rights in China.

          Secret Shanghai
Amidst the skyscrapers, flyovers and bustle of Shanghai, it is a treat to be led by Lily into quiet temples and listen to her clear and detailed explanation of Chinese religion and its place in modern Chinese life.

Lily - Superb Historical and Cultural Expertise - Private Tour of the Shanghai Museum
Lily was exactly what I was looking for. I had been to the Shanghai Museum several times. The placards provided minimal information. I felt like I was missing the color and feeling behind what I was seeing. So this time, I wanted the historical and cultural color behind the artifacts. Took me a while to find the right person. Lily was exactly what I was looking for. She is super knowledgeable and great at explaining the story behind the objects. I am super happy with her and I highly recommend her.

We did it all with Lily’s Help!
This past December my family and I went to Shanghai. We were there supporting our son’s significant other who was working, traveling and performing in China. Her family was there as well and so Lily had the task of connecting us to guides available over the holidays and helping us to see as much of Shanghai as possible in a short time without overloading us. WHEW! She did a great job we saw so much, the old city, the Jewish Ghetto, the Red Route tour, the Water towns and an acrobatic show to boot. Our guides Wing and Jamie were both terrific. Prompt, very knowledgeable, and went out of their way to make sure we got what we needed from each experience. This planning made the trip so successful for our gang of 8 and I would highly reccomend Lily to anyone and everyone. Thank you again for making our trip one we won’t forget!

          Informative, educational and fun trip!
We explored the old city where ordinary tourists don't know, the city god temple and enjoyed the tea ceremony in Yu Garden area. It was indeed an informative, educational and fun trip. Lily is great guide who knows the city very well. She is professional, knowledgeable, smart, friendly, patient and easy to work with. I highly recommend her tour! Our American students really enjoyed the trip.

          An amazing, unique experience.
This is a truly different type of tour. We started with what and where was essentially the birth of the communist party in China, through the opening to the west, and to where it is today. This may sound rather heavy (and, dull?), but Lily, the owner and guide, has such an incredible personality and understands the subject matter so deeply, that you can't help but come away with a new perspective on this style of government (and, dare I say, have a great time doing it!).

I have always been curious about the historic and ongoing roles of the Communist Party in China's evolution from economic and political basket case to emergence as a world power. I received the equivalent of a quickie college course on this subject from Ms. Lily Wang on her Red Route Tour -- along with extraordinary hospitality -- and a lot of fun!

We visited the place where it all started in 1921 in Shanghai -- at the First Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. This fascinating museum -- a citadel of Communist Party leadership -- is, by the way, located in what has become a model of Chinese -style capitalism -- the upscale neighborhood of coffee houses and cafes known as Xintiandi.

We learned what happened at the Congress. But of even more importance to me was the historical context Ms. Wang provided. She explained in knowledgeable and entertaining fashion how the Communist Party built a movement that went on to play a major role in defeating Japanese invaders in the 1930s and 1940s and thereafter won a civil war that brought the Chinese Communist Party, led by Mao Zedong, to national power with its capital in Beijing. Ms. Wang also explained the various social and economic movements such as The Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution and the Opening Up policy to the West. She provided fascinating insights into the unprecedented economic growth of China since -- no place better demonstrated than in Shanghai -- the country's commercial center.

In short, our group came away from this tour with a much expanded understanding of how and why China -- led by the Chinese Communist Party -- became the world's second largest economy in about 40 years -- and why and how it has done this by blending socialism and capitalism.

The members of our group agreed The Red Route tour was far and away the most enlightening that we took in China -- and it inspired us to take another tour with Ms. Wang -- this one about the great religions of China. This tour helped to dispel a lot of confusion about Chinese culture. What we learned from Ms. Wang was that the Chinese Communist Party -- indeed, virtually all institutions in China, are rooted in philosophical, spiritual and religious traditions and values of China that date back thousands of years.

We visited Daoist, Buddhist and Confucian temples in Shanghai where Ms. Wang explained how each deeply influences daily life in China today. I'll share a couple of moments that illustrate the depth of this influence -- and the humor and wisdom of Ms. Wang. In one case, a member of our group expressed concern that we were running a little late on our schedule, Ms. Wang advised him to "go with the flow. Relax. Calm down," She explained this was how a Daoist would handle the moment, At another point, Ms. Wang settled a debate about where our group should have dinner that evening. Ms. Wang turned to me and said, "You are the most senior person here -- what would you advise.." Well, thanks a lot," I said. Ms. Wang pointed out she was, in the Confucian manner, showing special politeness and respect for the elderly..We all laughed.

A tour with Ms. Wang is not to be forgotten. A rare blending of wisdom, insight, humor and fun. By the end, you feel like family -- and that you have found a new and special friend in Ms. Wang.
