Begin your 2-hour tour at the Arenal Natura Ecological Park. Explore outdoor trails through a tropical rain forest as the sun sets. You will see and hear animals that are not visible during the day, like red-eyed tree frogs and walking stick bugs, as they run along the trails and across the water. You may also spot sloths, armadillos, and nocturnal birds. Over 20 species of frogs will be around in their natural habitat. Your professional guide will assist you throughout the tour.

      Fantastic butterflies and frog displays
The butterfly garden and frog and snake displays were fantastic! We could never have spotted the frogs without the guide,MSO despite her limited English we really appreciated her input! The rest of the park was pretty tired looking, and no sloths or monkeys to be seen. Good place to see a few crocs and an alligator and a few turtles though. We were fascinated by several convoys of leaf-cutter ants along the nature trail.

      Bad
One of the biggest disappointments in Costa Rica! It could have already discouraged us that they only accept dollars, and when paying 88 dollars, they don’t have change for 100 dollars. Although this wasn’t an entirely unsolvable issue, the real problem arises when you pay 88 dollars and see only about 10 butterflies. ☹️ It felt like quite a scam to me. 🤔 The only redeeming part was the goose with goslings, but when you visit a butterfly house, that’s really not enough. 🤦🏼‍♂️ I definitely do not recommend this place. The entrance fee is 22 dollars per person, and you really see nothing.

Interesting place but 90% of birds were in cages
Interesting trip up there from Puntarenas you get a feel for the area. Problem was it was more like a zoo with animals in large cages. Very few in the wild. Second the guide did the best she could but with about 40 people and no microphone many could not hear

Tour was great Ashley did a great job helping us get wonderful pictures of the poison dart frogs, and even some other frogs that were wild and just hanging out in the park!

      Pigs must be relocated
Here’s an updated version: As the founder of a nonprofit that rescues farm animals in Costa Rica and Florida, I was deeply disturbed by what I witnessed today. Hercules the pig is being used for breeding and urgently needs to be neutered. Along with Berta and Sofia, these pigs are in poor conditions, likely intended for meat production. Your mission is to research and preserve species, but the current treatment of these animals does not reflect that. I kindly urge you to surrender the pigs to our organization, where they can live peacefully and receive the care they deserve. I’ll reach out via WhatsApp to discuss this further. I hope we can work together to provide a better future for these animals. Hope to hear from you soon with positive news.

Visit a sanctuary instead of a for profit exhibition
We were excited to see the butterfly house exhibit with our kids. Natura claimed to be a park concerned for the preservation and research to help the species they host. The butterfly house was a disappointment. They have few butterflies and they all seem to want to get out of there. My guess is they do not have the right set of flowers for the species they have there. When we asked for a written guide so we could identify the butterflies the person up front told us that they do not have one because they do not know. She told us that they buy the butterflies every two weeks so they keep changing (and it’s not worth their time to document). This probably explains why the butterflies seem to be eager to leave since it’s not designed for specific species and flowers tailored for that species. In the end we felt bad spending money here! It encourages the wrong behavior for businesses to monetize the exhibition of animals instead of helping them, educating, and improving their lives.

Great opportunity to see animals up close.
We found this park online in our search for an eco/rescue park. We purchased tickets, not knowing we paid for a private tour. Our guide, Ashly was very welcoming and friendly. She guided us through the park. She was very knowledgeable, she told us lots about the flora and fauna and answered our questions. She gave us plenty of time to take pictures and enjoy the park. We saw butterflies, frogs, turtles, crocodiles, snakes and baby ducks. We really enjoyed the two hours we spend there. Thank you Ashly!

Good Enough for 90 minutes of entertainment
Natura Eco Park was the closest thing to a Zoo we visited. It's privately funded, no government support. The butterfly garden is highlight, the huge tented dome has plenty of beautiful butterflies from a variety of different species. The reptile and frog section had multiple exhibits, but it was difficult to see half the animals because the glass was dirty and fogged due to the weather. The crocodiles ponds were bit more exciting, some these scary creatures were casually moving about. The birds and rabbits needed bigger cages. The place overall is small and feels rundown, you won't need more than 1.5-2 hours here to see everything. I wouldn't make this a top priority on your Costa Rica adventures, but if some extra time to kill, it's entertaining enough. Seemed pricy for $42, though I suppose it goes to a good cause(hopefully!), and it's $37 if pay cash instead, which we did.

Mixed Experience with the Photography Tour at Natura Eco Park
Our recent Photography Tour at Natura Eco Park left us with mixed feelings. While we encountered knowledgeable and motivated staff who were great to talk to, there were also aspects of the experience that left us disappointed. On the positive side, the staff at Natura Eco Park demonstrated a genuine passion for wildlife and were eager to share their knowledge with us. We enjoyed engaging in conversations with them and appreciated their enthusiasm for the animals in their care. Additionally, there were plenty of animals to photograph, providing ample opportunities for us to capture captivating images. However, we were disappointed to learn that the animals we encountered during the tour were held in captivity rather than being wild. This revelation diminished our excitement, as it was not clearly stated when booking the tour. While we understand the challenges of providing a controlled environment for photography, we believe it's essential to prioritize the welfare and freedom of the animals. Furthermore, we found the photographic setup at Natura Eco Park to be lacking. Despite the staff's best efforts, there seemed to be a lack of photographic knowledge. While it was appreciated that the setup was sheltered from the rain, this sometimes affected the quality of the photographs due to suboptimal lighting and backgrounds. The setup was also made too busy making it hard to find a good composition on the images. In conclusion, while we acknowledge the dedication and motivation of the staff at Natura Eco Park, we believe there is room for improvement in the Photography Tour experience. Consulting with a photographer to enhance the overall setup and ensuring that the welfare of the animals is prioritized are areas where improvements could be made. Additionally, implementing a rotational schedule for selecting animals to photograph (and not letting people decide which animal they want to see) could help minimize disturbance and provide a more ethical approach to animal care. We hope that Natura Eco Park will take the initiative to address these concerns and create a more fulfilling and ethical experience for visitors in the future.

Great photos of snakes and frogs
We embarked on the 3-hour photographer's tour at Eco Natura Park in La Fortuna, and it was nothing short of spectacular! Our goal was to photograph frogs and snakes in their natural settings, and the park did not disappoint. We managed to capture around 15 different frogs and 8 snakes, each in unique natural surroundings, which made for some phenomenal photography. Our guide, Leonela, was incredibly knowledgeable, providing detailed insights into each creature we encountered. Isaias was a great help too, ensuring we had everything we needed for a successful shoot. The diversity of wildlife and the sheer beauty of their habitats filled us with awe. We are immensely grateful for such an enriching experience. Thank you for making this possible! Rene, Agnes and Rene from Switzerland

      A lovely animal sanctuary
Lovely animal sanctuary, with a wide array of different butterflies, reptiles and amphibians. Our tour guide Ashly was very helpful and informative, opening some of the enclosures for a clearer view of the frogs! We even saw a young sloth and some sleeping bats, whilst walking one of their trails! Highly recommend!

This night walk was awesome! Definitely the highlight of our time in the area. We did this walk with our 4 and 6 year old kids who loved it! It was engaging from start to finish with so mu h wildlife to see. We saw several different kinds of frogs of all sizes and colours, lizards, tons of cool bugs, and learned about some of the other wildlife in the area. Our guide, Roy, was great and was very patient with our not so patient 4 year old :) I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you have kiddos with you!

Ashley was our guide for the almost two-hour night walk and she was amazing. She was so knowledgeable about all the wild animals we saw (frogs, toads, lizards, snakes, ants, spiders, crocs, caimans, crickets, walking sticks, rodents, and more!) as well as plants. She shared her love for the animals and her enthusiasm about learning about the habitat. She was extremely friendly and helpful and made for an unforgettable tour. She also offered umbrellas to us, brought extra flashlights for us, helped us through more challenging parts of the path, and helped us take the most amazing night photos of the animals we spotted.

The park itself is beautiful with nice paths and so many animals living in their natural habitat. Definitely worth the experience and knowledge!

This was such a unique experience and fun if you like to be a little scared. It was very dark on the privately-owned property, with many things to see, using the flashlights they provided. Most of the frogs were found by our guide, Alejandro, and some of the other animals (like the seldom-seen kinkajou) was found by our daughter. I'd recommend this tour for active and fearless individuals over the age of 6.

My husband and I booked the night tour and it was great! We saw many animals, including several types of frogs, toads, lizards, pacas and insects! We did not see snakes so our guide Alejandro went above and beyond to take us to the snake garden - Alejandro was very knowledgeable and you can tell he is passionate about his work! I highly recommend this tour - and Alejandro!

We did the night tour with Ashly and loved it! Ashly was very knowledgeable and helped us see many animals and insects. She took the time to explain a lot of details about the different species. We didn’t really know what to expect going into this but we really enjoyed the experience. We would recommend this!

Very enjoyable! I'm a bird watching kinda guy, but this night walk was entertaining, educational, and fun! Trails were well laid out, my tour group was 'older', but had no trouble navigating. Many sighting of night life, especially frogs. Our guide was knowledgable and had a great command of English. Told many stories of local lore, and found a beautiful Fer de Lance! But kept us away, of course. Two of the visitors were professional bug people and they were impressed by the tour. I highly recommend this tour for all ages...and anyone with an interest in nature and sleeping crocodiles!!!

One of our desires was to see at night a bunch of frogs. Well, we found close to the hotel Eco nature and our guide Ashley led a small group of 6 people around. She is very good in many aspects.
We found a lot of frogs and she knew a lot about it. She helped taking the pictures and they came out superb. The hike was very well organized.
It was a 2 hour hike. And we couldn't believe what we found, see some of the pictures.

The night walk in the ecological park Natura arenal is the best place to see lots of mammals in action. Our guide, Luis, was very kind and showed us a great trick how to spot animals at night. We found lots of red eyed tree frogs and Luis helped us to catch the best pictures. Plus, Luis provided us with lots of interesting and important information about the animals and the environment and how to help maintain the forest.
It was a very informative and exciting tour which I can only recommend. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to see the park at day time which would have been exciting too.
