About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- daneyp_pa0 contributionsPigs must be relocatedHere’s an updated version: As the founder of a nonprofit that rescues farm animals in Costa Rica and Florida, I was deeply disturbed by what I witnessed today. Hercules the pig is being used for breeding and urgently needs to be neutered. Along with Berta and Sofia, these pigs are in poor conditions, likely intended for meat production. Your mission is to research and preserve species, but the current treatment of these animals does not reflect that. I kindly urge you to surrender the pigs to our organization, where they can live peacefully and receive the care they deserve. I’ll reach out via WhatsApp to discuss this further. I hope we can work together to provide a better future for these animals. Hope to hear from you soon with positive news.Written 3 September 2024
- ratatouille20 contributionsVisit a sanctuary instead of a for profit exhibitionWe were excited to see the butterfly house exhibit with our kids. Natura claimed to be a park concerned for the preservation and research to help the species they host. The butterfly house was a disappointment. They have few butterflies and they all seem to want to get out of there. My guess is they do not have the right set of flowers for the species they have there. When we asked for a written guide so we could identify the butterflies the person up front told us that they do not have one because they do not know. She told us that they buy the butterflies every two weeks so they keep changing (and it’s not worth their time to document). This probably explains why the butterflies seem to be eager to leave since it’s not designed for specific species and flowers tailored for that species. In the end we felt bad spending money here! It encourages the wrong behavior for businesses to monetize the exhibition of animals instead of helping them, educating, and improving their lives.Written 4 August 2024
- estefaniaf5080 contributionsNatura ReviewSuch a cool experience to see butterflies up close, we even got to hold one! And We got some really cool pictures up close of frogs! Ashley (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) was our tour guide for the frogs and snakes and tortoises. She did an amazing job she got us up close pictures and was very informative! Thank you!Written 1 August 2024
- no_llea1570 contributionsGreat opportunity to see animals up close. We found this park online in our search for an eco/rescue park. We purchased tickets, not knowing we paid for a private tour. Our guide, Ashly was very welcoming and friendly. She guided us through the park. She was very knowledgeable, she told us lots about the flora and fauna and answered our questions. She gave us plenty of time to take pictures and enjoy the park. We saw butterflies, frogs, turtles, crocodiles, snakes and baby ducks. We really enjoyed the two hours we spend there. Thank you Ashly!Written 24 July 2024
- ErikaMusic63060 contributionsGreat experience!Excellent tour! We saw crocodiles, a sloth, lots of frogs and some snakes. Ashly, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable and took amazing pictures with our cameras for us!Written 21 July 2024
- JohnnyTrekkie0 contributionsGood Enough for 90 minutes of entertainmentNatura Eco Park was the closest thing to a Zoo we visited. It's privately funded, no government support. The butterfly garden is highlight, the huge tented dome has plenty of beautiful butterflies from a variety of different species. The reptile and frog section had multiple exhibits, but it was difficult to see half the animals because the glass was dirty and fogged due to the weather. The crocodiles ponds were bit more exciting, some these scary creatures were casually moving about. The birds and rabbits needed bigger cages. The place overall is small and feels rundown, you won't need more than 1.5-2 hours here to see everything. I wouldn't make this a top priority on your Costa Rica adventures, but if some extra time to kill, it's entertaining enough. Seemed pricy for $42, though I suppose it goes to a good cause(hopefully!), and it's $37 if pay cash instead, which we did.Written 13 June 2024

- Stephanie W0 contributionsFor animal and nature lovers!5/5 because we saw red eyed tree frogs! We were most interested in the frogs and snakes, and a guide shows you through these exhibits. Our guide was excellent and very informative. Then we saw some poisonous frogs and a red eyed tree frog in the wild! What perfect timing. Also the butterfly house was very good.Written 18 March 2024

Our recent Photography Tour at Natura Eco Park left us with mixed feelings. While we encountered knowledgeable and motivated staff who were great to talk to, there were also aspects of the experience that left us disappointed.
On the positive side, the staff at Natura Eco Park demonstrated a genuine passion for wildlife and were eager to share their knowledge with us. We enjoyed engaging in conversations with them and appreciated their enthusiasm for the animals in their care. Additionally, there were plenty of animals to photograph, providing ample opportunities for us to capture captivating images.
However, we were disappointed to learn that the animals we encountered during the tour were held in captivity rather than being wild. This revelation diminished our excitement, as it was not clearly stated when booking the tour. While we understand the challenges of providing a controlled environment for photography, we believe it's essential to prioritize the welfare and freedom of the animals.
Furthermore, we found the photographic setup at Natura Eco Park to be lacking. Despite the staff's best efforts, there seemed to be a lack of photographic knowledge. While it was appreciated that the setup was sheltered from the rain, this sometimes affected the quality of the photographs due to suboptimal lighting and backgrounds. The setup was also made too busy making it hard to find a good composition on the images.
In conclusion, while we acknowledge the dedication and motivation of the staff at Natura Eco Park, we believe there is room for improvement in the Photography Tour experience. Consulting with a photographer to enhance the overall setup and ensuring that the welfare of the animals is prioritized are areas where improvements could be made. Additionally, implementing a rotational schedule for selecting animals to photograph (and not letting people decide which animal they want to see) could help minimize disturbance and provide a more ethical approach to animal care.
We hope that Natura Eco Park will take the initiative to address these concerns and create a more fulfilling and ethical experience for visitors in the future.

Lovely animal sanctuary, with a wide array of different butterflies, reptiles and amphibians. Our tour guide Ashly was very helpful and informative, opening some of the enclosures for a clearer view of the frogs! We even saw a young sloth and some sleeping bats, whilst walking one of their trails!
Highly recommend!
