We had a wonderful experience at the farm to table class and highly recommend it! After a tour of the farm and making and sampling our own sugar cane juice, we made ceviche, empanadas, and patacones with Chef Melania. The recipes were simple and easy/fun to make, but the food turned out SO GOOD and we definitely plan to make all 3 again at home soon. We also spent time chatting about Costa Rica and the native tribes, and also got to practice our Spanish. Note that Spanish is not required to take the class. The class was a great value and a lot of fun, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about local food and culture in Costa Rica.

Such a lovely night taking the Cooking Class with Melania.
We wanted to try something different in Costa Rica so we signed up for this Farm Tour & Cooking Class.
Even though the Farm Tour was short, I learned a lot! Among the most notable things - I got to see what pineapple, cinnamon and paprika crops look like and I saw the largest pig I've ever seen in my life.
The group size was perfect - 6 people total, so we all got to chat and hang out.
We cooked ceviche (10/10) and empanadas, and Melania even told us her secret ingredient for ceviche (sign up to find out, I won't tell haha!)
I also enjoyed getting to practice my Spanish with Melania, who was smiling the whole time and a lovely person.
Mix it up! Try this cooking class. It will be an evening well spent.

Melania and her son led such an informative and fun cooking class, with Melania as the guide for all things cooking and her son as the translator. The class was small— just me and a family of four— so we all got to be involved throughout. I especially appreciated the various explanations around the ingredients we were using. The final meal we made (vegetarian ceviche, chicken and rice, and chicken empanadas) was delicious!
One thing to note: this class was less about anything technical and more about a home cooking type of experience, including sampling food from the palm of our hands. If you’re a germaphobe, this may not be for you, but I have no regrets!

We were shown step by step how to prepare a typical Costa Rican meal. It was too wet from recent rain to tour the farm but we were shown what they grew and were told stories from the farm. The teacher and her son made us feel comfortable and answered all our questions. Highly recommend for a relaxed time and delicious meal.

Overall, we enjoyed the experience. We started with a short walk through the garden, fed some of the farm animals, and came back to make the food. It wasn't quite farm-to-table, but it was fun. We chopped and prepared the materials for ceviche (everything except the fish) and also assembled empanadas (with prepped ingredients) and enjoyed learning some tricks of the trade. There were also some patacones that we smashed that nicely complemented the dishes. It was a little pricey compared to other cooking lessons we've done elsewhere that were comparable in duration, but if you're looking for a fun cooking experience in La Fortuna, this would be a good one to attend.

AMAZING!! This is highlight of my trip in La Fortuna. Melania and Kevin were so fun and made the experience incredible. We made the most delicious tacos and empanadas and drank yummy ice tea!! We loved talking with both of them in Spanglish. I can’t recommended this cooking class enough! It’s so worth it and so easy! You can easily take your knowledge of the recipe and make it at home. We loved it so much we will be back on Wednesday to sing karaoke and dance with them!❤️

We really enjoyed the cooking class and would definitely recommend it! Miguel and Melania made this event very special. The class started with Miguel showing us the farm and then Melania explained how to cook traditional Costa Rican food.
If you're visiting Costa Rica and want an authentic, fun, and delicious cultural experience, I highly recommend signing up for this cooking class. It’s a wonderful way to take a piece of Costa Rican flavor back home!

Melania and Warner were great hosts! They have a small eco-farm behind the restaurant (Boathouse Restaurant) which we toured before starting. There are pigs, chickens, and goats and a bunch of organic produce. Warner gave us a tour and then we squeezed fresh sugar cane juice and took shots of sugar cane rum. Neat experience!
There were three options for dinner: Tacos, empanadas, and a chicken stew. We went with the last one as it was most substantial. Great experience all around and we recommend!

Farm walk was the best part of the class. We learnt so much during this hands on experience. My kids loved it. We are grateful to both hosts for making it a great evening. I have Celiac disease and they made sure flour we used was gluten free. I highly recommend this as it was both informative and so much fun.
