Our Buggy Tour is a total adventure from start to finish! You will ride a Buggy through the Costa Rican Tropical forest, down roads, over rivers and through puddles (in the rainy season). You will see a wide range of livestock, wild animals like monkeys and many species of birds along the way. Jump into your utility terrain vehicle (UTV) and start your tour of Costa Rica’s Gold Coast. Ride on beaches and through forests in a comfortable vehicle that allows for the same type of off-road experience as an ATV but with the comforts of upright seating for a driver and a passenger. Your guide will help you spot animals like howler monkeys, iguanas, and tropical birds.

Horrible experience from the beggining to the end
We rent 3 atvs and the experience was horrible from the beggining to the end. First of all the atvs were all dirty and the sit of one was hot and the guide complained about it when we asked to change . The guides name was Brian Daniel and he had no pacience to teach us how to drive and his was all the time in a hurry mood (safety zero). When we arrived in the beach, he nor even told us the name of the beach (we had to ask the local guys) , the only thing he said was ‘there is the beach and here the restaurant’. We stayed a little bit in the beach and Sooner in a very stupid mode he asked us to leave because the time was ending . when he saw we wouldn’t drink in the local restaurant he complained with the restaurant guy looking at us When we left, my daughter took some minutes to turn on the atv when we left the beach and we were behind, he returned and complained about it ) When we arrived the office it was already closed, he left us there and when I went inside to ask for my credit card cancellation , he nor even looked at me. There was a lady very polite that mentioned us that the credit cancellation will happen until tomorrow and the owner that supported me when we arrived was very polite too . Resume: due the speed and all Mentioned above it was a very nervous and tense experience

      3 hour ATV beach tour
I did a 3 hour ATV tour. Our guide John was amazing! We stopped at a couple of beaches. It was a super great experience! Would definitely recommend this. Especially if John is your guide!

      Shortchanged
Four hour tour was only 3 hours and 10 minutes. When I asked for a partial refund, the owner refused and said it was our own fault because we were too good at driving and thus finished early. All the advertising clearly state a TIME of four hours, not a “course” to run and if you get back early, tough luck. They should have just kept going for at least another half hour because that’s what we paid for.

Great tour with Brian. amazing scenery.
I definitely recommend Action Tours. Casey, the owner, and Brian, the tour guide, looked after us brilliantly. Casey checked us in for our 3 hour tour for Bahia de Los Pirates. The tour was incredible and Brian took us to all the best viewing points and beaches along the way. He also managed to find a family of howler monkeys on the way home. We would do another tour if we had more days in Tamarindo!

      Unprofessional and rude
Booked this excursion and showed up for our reservation only to be told they couldn’t take us because “they didn’t see our reservation”. We checked out of our Airbnb early to drive to this excursion before we left town. The guy was not apologetic and was very rude, for an error they made. We still have not yet received our refund because he “couldn’t do it there”. Very unprofessional. He also blamed us because we booked the excursion at 9pm and said “you expected me to be on my phone at 9pm?”. Then why let us book it? Terrible experience! We found a company right down the road that was AWESOME and cheaper!! Tamarindo Dreaming - five stars!!!

Exciting ATV tour to Pirates Bay!
Kenneth took our family on an exciting ATV tour to Pirates Bay. It was a beautiful experience seeing the primitive untouched beauty of Costa Rica!

      Save your money, book elsewhere.
I've been on at least 8 different ATV tours around the world including one other in Costa Rica, this was by far the worst one I've been on. Ronny was an absolutely miserable guide - rude, condescending, and not informative at all and the owners of this company should take SERIOUS note of this. I cant speak on the other guides but he is actually terrible. He made several off handed comments during the tour and just seemed miserable and impatient the whole time. We had to give him a lecture on coordinating instructions with a large group including some beginners after he got angry with part of our group not heeding his hand gestures because they couldnt see how many fingers he was holding up from 200m away. Honestly ridiculous. The front brake was completely disabled which made stopping on a whim very dangerous as we had to rely wholly on the rear break. On several cases with the momentum of two riders on a single ATV going downhill with some speed required some experienced swerving and maneuvering to avoid crashing into riders ahead of us who got stuck on the difficult terrain because the brakes were simply inadequate. Before the tour, some riders in our group asked how to use the reverse function and Ronny insisted that we would not need it and refused to show us. Early on in the tour we had difficult terrain and a sharp turn that nearly sent two ATVs off of a cliff. The riders were stuck with their front wheels partly off the edge of the road without the knowledge of how to reverse. Ronny and the group continued down the hill and it took him a long time before he realized he lost some riders and had to go back and pull their vehicles back into safety simply because they didnt know how to shift into reverse. Ronny expressed no concern, only frustration at the drivers inexperience and had no reservations in voicing his displeasure. The mood was killed for the rest of the tour right from the start. About half of the tour was incredibly dusty enough to reduce visibility from the ATVs ahead of us. We had no expectation of this or opportunity to do anything to protect us from inhaling mouthfuls of dirt. We also crossed paths with two other ATV tour where everyone had bandanas or masks and we can only presume that they were given the bandanas or at least informed and had the opportunity to prepare in advance to deal with the insane amount of dust. At the beach stop my wife asked me to help her take off her helmet, I reached up to help her and Ronny nudged my hand away stating "she has to learn on her own" and continued to show her how to take it off herself, it was strangely aggressive and risked a confrontation with me in the process. By the end of the stop we gave him some gentle remarks that the group was not at all pleased with him and his tone had changed and he assured us the second half was a more gentle ride but it was far too late, no one was having a good time with him. There were a number of other small incidents and off handed comments throughout the trip that I wont speak to but it left a bad taste in the group. At the end of the tour he explicitly asked us for a tip... lol. ATV were a 5/10. They worked okay but the disabling of front brakes weren't a good idea especially on an intermediate terrain. Tour guide was a 2/10. Anything worse would have led to a full out confrontation but he really towed the line. Trail 6/10. Besides the dust it was an OK trail, not very scenic and partly challenging, some of it was on main streets and it made some beginners feel unsafe but as an intermediate rider it was fun for me and there were good opportunities to drive faster than what some might expect around ~50kmph.

      Set up like a scam
Booked in advance and when we arrived was told we needed to take a ride test first. The test was someone sitting behind you throwing hand signals you could not see on when to switch gears because they are manual ATVs. Told us both we failed and needed to pay more to drive the other vehicles. Refused and just wanted money back but they said no refunds. Finally they relented and let us ride test again and passed to then be taken on a tour where the tour "guide" spent the trip making donkey sounds to harass women we passed and being forced to buy a drink at the beach or we wouldn't leave. Bottom line go elsewhere or at least don't book in advance unless you are sure you can handle a manual ATV.

Awesome time with Action Tours Tamarindo
My wife and I booked two trips with Action tours Tamarindo. The first trip was a night tour from 4:00 - 7:00. We visited several beaches, and small beachside bar for a great drink. The second trip was from 9;00-4:00. We rode up the coast on back roads stopping at various Playa beaches, and great nestled in the woods hotel lunch spot. Both trips were with Ronnie and we could have had a better guide. He was the life of the tour. It’s a must do tour.

      Dangerous equipment; buzzed guide
Rented four ATVs. Equipment is not well maintained. Tires bald making turns dangerous. Front brakes disabled “for our security.” UTV on the tour broke down. Guide drank alcohol at the two stops.

Save the $290, rent a car. We felt duped and would not recommend.
Our friends sent us an online brochure with pictures of a an incredible looking night tour with decked out UTVs traveling to the beach at night with bioluminescent algae, mind blowing imagery of star gazing etc. Trip was supposed to be $200 for a driver and passenger. We got there and they said it was going to be $240 for the tour instead of the $200 advertised. I asked him if he would honor the $200 price we were looking at and he had a million reasons why he couldn’t honor the price and told me to prove that we actually saw that price because it didn’t exist. After we showed him the online brochure, he said that price was for UTVs he didn’t have anymore. The trip was literally driving the main roads to Pirates Bay in a UTV and taking a few dirt roads along the way. We stopped and looked at a couple of old trees too. No stars on the beach, no bioluminescent algae, no lit up tricked out UTV. We ended up paying $290 per UTV (3 ppl) for three hours. It was nothing more than the old “bait and switch”…. Sell you on one thing, deliver something completely different. By the time we got back to Tamarindo, the owner was nowhere to be found. Bring your own goggles. There is so much dust that gets through their old goggles that your eyelids get dust in them and you can barely see. They will try and charge you to take pictures and they take you to a bar at the beach where they try to get you to buy food and drinks. That said, Pirates Bay is beautiful and we got some good pictures at sunset. The UTVs were new and the tour guide actually let you have some fun in them. If you’re looking to try out cool machines, you don’t mind the dust, and you want to go see Pirates Bay for $300, this is for you.

We had a great time on a UTV ride. We had kids ages 8 and 3. They allowed us to bring our 3 year old and we just strapped in his car seat. We chose the upgraded Kawasaki UTV due to the more comfortable back seats and we are thankful we did. It drove better than our rental car. My husband had a blast driving us down the dirt roads and to the 2 beaches they took us to. We did the 3 hour tour and are glad we didn’t chose shorter. The guide provided us with goggles and we bought bandanas for $3/each to keep the dust off our faces. We swam and explored Playa Viejo and Playa Real. We could have gotten a drink at Viejo but chose to swim instead. This was one of our favorite excursions so far in Costa Rica.

It was fun diving the family in the buggy, we saw a bit of the country side, and the guide who led us on an ATV was great at directing us on the trip, as we traveled on the roads. We got tropical smoothies at the bar at Puerto Viejo (separate purchase) and enjoyed the view there, but only had enough time to drink them and put our toes in the water before heading back. We went late afternoon, so traffic was a bit of a factor (might have had more time earlier in the day). Still, it was an enjoyably cap to our first full day in Tamarindo, otherwise noodling at the beach and around town.

We did this experience with guide Kenneth. We had a 5yr old so we opted for the UTV. We had an amazing time. Staff are super attentive, accommodating, and friendly. We were staying nearby in tamarindo, so they were able to pick us up. I think his name is Casey ( owner ? ) rock star, Maria was great as well. Would definitely recommend and do again .....🤟🏾👍🏾 Pura vida

Gabby was completely disrespectful after 20 minutes we were told we had to turn around which was ok I don't like being around disrespectful people. When we got back I was told I couldn't get my money back and yelled at by the owner/ worker. Even laughed at as I walked away with nothing. This place is more of a scam than a business. Avoid at all costs

We apologize if you felt that our guide was disrespectful during the tour. Our guides prioritize the safety of all participants, and if they felt that your ATV driving was posing a risk to yourself or others, they may have made the decision to return to the shop for your own safety. We understand that this may have been disappointing for you, but it was done with your well-being in mind. When you returned to the shop, it was already an hour and a half into the tour, and we offered you an alternative option of using a UTV instead. However, you declined this offer. We understand that you requested a refund, and as a gesture of goodwill, we refunded you half of your payment. This refund took into account the time spent on the tour, the use of the ATVs, and the expenses incurred, such as gasoline. We are sorry that your overall experience did not meet your expectations, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We value your feedback and will use it as an opportunity to improve our services. If you have any further concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. Thank you for sharing your review, and we wish you the best in your future travel experiences.

We decided to do the UTV since my wife isn't that great of a driver and we have gemelo niños so the 4 seater worked out for us perfectly. We saw monkeys, climbed up to a sea cave and had a blast going through the rivers at full speed. We also rented a golf cart for the week and did a sunset horse ride all through ATV Tamarindo - Action Tours. The staff is fun and very helpful. They made our trip exciting and memorable.

We had Gabi as our tour guide. She was excellent, friendly and made sure we had a great time! My teen drove one buggy and my husband drove the other with our 10 year old. It was nice to have the option for 2 seater side by side. Gabi made sure to show us monkeys in the trees because we hadn’t seen any yet on our trip. We booked this before we left and it was so nice to have it confirmed before we even left for vacation. You cannot go wrong with this tour company. Great people, they speak great English and their equipment was top notch!
