Must-do in Puerto Viejo
This is a top-rate facility that does such important work rehabilitating animals and giving sanctuary to those that can’t be returned to the wild. We had a knowledgeable and funny tour guide (a volunteer!), and we saw lots of amazing animals like a baby sloth, spider monkeys, wildcats, and vipers. Our tour had around ten people, but if we ever come back we will splurge for the private tour. Highly recommend!

Public tour.
We went on the 9:30 am tour this morning. There were a total of 9 in our tour group with people from all over: the UK Germany, Texas, California, North Carolina and Costa Rica. Our guide from Amsterdam was great and extremely knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. Everyone who has the opportunity should tour this rescue center. They are doing amazing things for the ecosystem of Costa Rica. What a great day.

Absolutely loved the Jaguar Rescue Centre tour! A must-do for sure!
I was initially worried it would be too tourist-y as there were lots of people around, but then the groups were arranged into 12 people with a personal guide each and once it started I realised just how amazing the place is! Our guide Amelia was extremely knowledgable, she was in Costa Rica as part of her Masters Research in sloths!
The animals were incredible, it will depend what they have at the time as their goal is to release all animals back into the wild.
This was my first stop in Costa Rica, and doing this tour gave me a great insight and knowledge into so much wildlife, that I then saw later on in the wild during my trip.
My favourites were the baby sloths, just so adorable!

Well run and interesting
we were shown around in a group of 12 by Pablo who spoke English. He was very knowledgeable and happy to answers questions about the animals and kept everyone interested.
This centre has no jaguars at this time, but it does have a Margay cat, lots of baby sloths , a cayman, a crocodile, capuchins monkeys, a few macaws. The aim of this centre is to rehabilitate animals and send them back out into the wild. It is not a petting zoo, there is no contact with the animals.
There is a small cafe and gift shop $22 entrance fee.

This was my third time to Costa Rica and to the rescue center, it has changed a lot! They continue to learn and grow and change to adopt the best practices for maintaining the animals health and well being. I learned so much and enjoyed every moment at the center. We did a private tour as we wanted more time to see the animals and learn about them. I applaud the team of volunteers and their efforts to educate us on the Costa Rican wildlife. I will now be telling everyone about sloths and the sad fate they are meeting with the power lines. Thank you again!

Wonderful Rescue Center
Jan 2020
My husband and I recently visited while staying in Puerto Viejo. It was actually just down the road from our place. It is a great place to visit. They do wonderful work there trying to rehab the animals. Many will be released back into the wild while some unfortunately will not be able to for many reasons. All are well cared for and the center is very well maintained, mostly by volunteers. Our guide, Pablo was studying primatology so was very knowledgeable. It is well worth the cost of the admission price which is very reasonable and all benefits the center. There is a gift shop and a small coffee shop on site. There are no jaguars at the center if you are expecting to see any. Worth a visit if in the area.

Jaguar Rescue Centre - a must see
Jan 2020 • Family
It is a great place to visit for families, couples or the solo traveler, you will take the tour, which is inclusive of the price of entry ticket. Which is very informative giving a good oversight about the animals on the tour, (not all the animals they rescue are in the tour- as they are getting ready to be released into the wild, as it is a rescue centre not a zoo). All tour guides are volunteers, their passion, energy, enthusiasm, love and care for the animals becomes very aparent as soon as you arrive at the centre. As the centre isnt government funded, the money raised by the cost of your entry ticket is reinvested into care of the animals and the vital work the centre is doing.Highly recommended going to see it for yourself.

it was one of the best tours, very interesting information about the animals they rescue, all tour guides are volunteers but also students. simply amazing and the best part of all this beautiful place is that by going there you are being parted of saving animals life and making his life better.
we bought souvenirs there to help then some more, I tough I will pay there more for the souvenirs but not it has the same price as any other place.
wonderful place, as well as Gandoca manzanillo, restaurant advice refugio grill, guacamole there wonderful, and punta uva beach.
all this 100 recomended, dont forget snorkling.
