About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SLandms0 contributionsOne terrific day in Costa ricaOur driver was Fernando, he was raised in Costa and had alot of really great geographical facts. This tour required 3 hrs up to La Fortuna and back. He was very considerate about needing rest stops and a very safe driver.Written 4 October 2024
- tingasiki0 contributionsHighlight of our trip!We had booked a private afternoon boatride through our lodge and asked to see birds rather than crocs. On arrival at the centre, the staff were very friendly and free soft drinks were offered before the tour set off. There's a large souvenir area and clean toilets too. We were met by our captain who was a true bird specialist. During the three hours with him on the river we saw more birds than on any previous trip anywhere in the world. The views were stunning and the sunset at the mouth of the river absolutely gorgeous. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica.Written 25 April 2024
- bradziker10 contributionslots of birdsWe took this trip as part of a ship cruise tour with about 45 people. It was about an hour drive from Puntarenas cruise port. You walk through a good-size store selling lots of tourist souvenirs and t-shirts. There a lots of hand-washing stations and clean bathrooms. The river trip was fun - the guides helped people with mobility issues onto the boat. The steering by the pilot was awesome as he would turn the boat around so that both sides got to see a couple of crocodiles. The water was very low, so not many crocs, but there were a ton of various birds. They had a little booklet of all kinds of birds that you could help ID the birds, and you could keep it as a souvenir. The boat ride was a bit over an hour. Walking out, they provided some watermelon and drinks in the store. They was all very nice.Written 17 April 2024
- DeirdreDrew0 contributionsNot recommended for older people.Booked last minute and was surprised at how much walking was involved. Not allowed to take water in and has this taken off us at the entrance. You can take a refillable bottle if you know. The guide was a really lovely man, who took pictures for us, but we could see absolutely nothing without the telescope. Few birds a few monkeys but far to far up the tree to appreciate them. A very long walk there and back. The high point was the beautiful beach, which we stayed at for an hour enjoying the ocean. Taken to a restaurant for lunch which was not great. Asked what deserts we wanted and then charged us $30 for them, also charged for water., The driver on the way back was very scary. He kept going on the opposite side of the road to overtake all the time. Ignored lines in the road which indicated it was not safe to overtake.Written 25 August 2023
- Emilykthompsonn0 contributionsI would recommend this tour over going on your own…we would have missed so much!We had an amazing time! Mario was an amazing driver and he went out of his way to make sure we were safe and he was very knowledgeable. Oscar, our guide was very patient and kind, giving us plenty of time to see everything! We learned so much from both of them!Written 25 April 2023
- 212kellyb0 contributionsNot many crocodiles but plenty of birds and beautiful surroundings.Cruising the river looking for crocodiles was quite beautiful. We didn’t see many crocks but the bird sightings made up for it! And gently floating through the mangrove forest was so peaceful.Written 24 February 2023
- Steve P0 contributionsGreat birdwatching and croc cruise. Toucans!!My dad and I had amazing day with our guide, David. He was very knowledgeable and had an almost supernatural ability to spot wildlife. He also is excellent at bird calls. We throughly enjoyed our time with him and I highly recommend using Jacamar tours. Ask for David!!Written 8 February 2023

- Reyna0140 contributions10/10 highly recommendWe had the most remarkable family tour with this company. Not only everything was perfect, but we felt, in every instance, that our guides truly cared about us, both the kids and adults, and did their best to make this trip memorableWritten 25 May 2022
- hart6620170 contributionsBest Family Fun ever!We had an amazing time white water rafting. H&S was taken seriously and we received a good briefing. Our guide was professional, instructive and great fun! He was also knowledgeable about the wildlife. They also had a photographer in a kayak who took great candid photos - we were laughing or smiling in all of them!Written 4 April 2022
- Traveljmr8150 contributionsBeautiful Costa Rican nature experience, excellent beaches and animal experienceWe had a private driver take us to Manuel Antonio National Park. Aside from the extreme heat that day it was a lovely trip. Be aware they only accept VISA and cash at the ticket booth, my Mastercard was not accepted. Prepare to walk including inclines, bring lots of water, sun protection, perhaps a bathing suit. I brought binoculars as the sloths in the trees are hard to spot. Guides with scopes were generous in letting us view the animals (sloths and Capuchin monkeys). Our highlight was the Manuel Antonio Beach down a steep hill, complete with monkeys in the trees. The ocean was warm, clean, however watch for a strong current. Boardwalks are designed to take you through beautiful mangrove areas. We heard Howler monkeys but did not see them. All in all don't miss this trip. We were happy that our experience was not rushed as we had a private driver - some park guides tend to rush you through. Amenities were modern: one kiosk with snacks, ice cream and souvenirs, restrooms.Written 15 March 2020
- Q8915IEjanetb0 contributionsMrsHad a wonderful day at manuel national park Juan was amazing and took time to explain to us all different plants etc saw monkeys sloths and iguanas ending with a relaxing hour at a beautiful beach followed by a a traditional lunch at a nearby restaurant would definitely recommend this tripWritten 11 February 2020
- JoeS-ResponsibleTrav0 contributionsOk park... not our favorite for birding.OK time in Carera. Though a transition zone... not the OMG amazing birding experience one gets from Monteverde or Sarapiqui or Rancho Naturalista. Very cool is that it is an ‘accessible’ park with trails paved for wheel chair access and interpretative signs in Braille. Guides wait for tourists out front. Choose wisely. Our guide, Maurice, who has many positive reviews was loud, throwing banana peels into the trees, and going off trail numerous times... not coolWritten 4 February 2020
