- familyhoffner0 contributionsTour of ManualAntonio National Oark - excellentKarla Alvarado was our wonderful guide for this tour. Karla’s bubbly energy is infectious and we all had a really great time on the tour. Her specialist knowledge of local animals and plants is excellent. She spotted so many animals for us, she’s great at focusing her telescope very quickly and brilliant at taking photos for us using her telescope. The tour was around 4-5 hours long, we saw 3 types of monkeys, lizards, different birds, all sorts of insects and crabs. Then we swam and enjoyed the gorgeous warm Pacific Ocean for around an hour before walking along both sides of the Tombolo. The driver was there waiting when we came out of the park once we were out of the local streets which Karla whisked us through quickly and easily. The fruit, snacks and ice tea were very welcome. Great morning tour - thank you KarlaWritten 20 August 2024
- Laura22120140 contributionsBrenda was the Best!!We went on the Manual Antonio hiking tour on August 18 2024. It was fantastic! Our guide Brenda did such a great job of pointing out animals that were camouflaged in the rainforest that we would never found on our own. Adult 2 and 3 toed sloths and a young sloth newly on its own. We saw all 3 types of monkeys native to Costa Rica as well. Also colorful toucans and other native birds and animals. Brenda was so knowledgeable of the nature, plants, animals and history. Her information was so helpful! She took photos for us through her lenses that will provide us with wonderful memories! She was so kind and also professional at the same time. The hike was a highlight of our vacation to Costa Rica! If you have a chance to do this tour while in Costa Rica - don't hesitate - GO! and ask for Brenda!Written 19 August 2024

- RazNe0 contributionsHighly recommendedA group of us did white water rafting with the team. My 10y was very nervous at the beginning. The guide (Mona) was terrific. Made her feel very relaxed and comfortable. Then guided us through a series of Class III and IV rapids with expertise and precision. Loved it and most importantly my daughter was happy too.Written 27 July 2024
- HugetteC0 contributionsJairo, Jonathan, Leandro the Best !!!!!I will start with how personable our guides were ! We were never bored and appreciated the opportunity to experience the landscape and Costa Rica Palm Plantation, They pointed out the wildlife along the way making sure the kids in the group saw them. The breakfast was perfect quick clean and delicious. Everything was spotless. We had lunch at the same spot open air cafeteria style with selections again just perfect. Our guides were a world of knowledge so we were never bored on the ride up. It kept the kids in the group entertained and excited for the ride. Frogs, sloth, Macaws, plants, but no delays in reaching the waterfalls and Rapids. The safety briefing was thorough we were prepared for a safe run. My husband Jean Francois Joseph Sheena Bryan and Gina our adults group were having a thrilling ride. We travel all over with our family and tour it was one of the best times we have had in any country. We have been to Costa Rica many times over the last 8 yrs no more gracious people and beautiful topography. After these trips the Grands and Greatgrands always ask for destinations not theme parks. We are done with that !! In your travels remember Costa Rica 3 hour flight from main land USA and most relaxing peaceful destination ever. Thank you Jairo Jonathan Leandro for the wonderful pictures as well and sharing your knowledge with us . Couldn’t have asked for a better time with the nicest of host . Safety was 1st and foremost their concern very Watchful eyes but it never came to play because of the brief.Written 5 July 2024

We were very excited, because of all of the great reviews, but were very disappointed The price for this tour is very high and is out of proportion to the quality of the tour. We had been in Costa Rica for 3 weeks and this is the worst tour we have done. The guide was very focused on putting on 'a good show' and was only looking for the animals that would attract most tourists (like monkeys, crocodiles etc). We passed so many crabs, fishes, birds etc that are so important for the mangroves, but did not get any explanation on this specific ecosystem or these animals. The material used was not of good quality; again not in proportion with the price. Because we joined another group, we could not choose if we got a single or double kayak. I would recommend seeing the mangroves by kayak, but would not recommend this tour.

The mangrove kayak tour is very unique and unlike the other tours I’ve done while in Costa Rica. I was blessed to have Alberto Rojas as my guide and his wisdom and energy for the wildlife is contagious. He stopped the bus even on the way to the mangrove to point out wildlife. The kayaking does require some moderate strength and thus would recommend you be in shape if you want to do this but the kayaking itself was so peaceful. As commented in other reviews, not as much wildlife but if you want a fun experience and enjoy kayaking this is a must do. Hopefully you’ll get Alberto because he made the experience great just to talk with him and learn from him. 10/10.

We loved this tour, and Danny was a fabulous tour guide. The tour bus picked up exactly when promised and Danny gave us great information on the way about the local area. Our guide on the actual kayak tour was great and it was wonderful in the mangroves. We didn’t see loads of wildlife but the guides were super informative and provided loads of great information about the flora and fauna.
We stopped for breakfast on the way home as we had an early start to hit the right tide times.
Lovely breakfast at the immaculate Toucanes cafe. Toucanes Tours is a really professional operator.

We did this excursion in the morning. Picked up at our hotel and driven to the out in point. Along the drive, Werner and Cesar told us the history of the area and what to expect for the day. We spent about 3 hours on the water. The mangroves very cool to see, but the capuchin monkeys out on quite the show! After the kayak tour was over, they bring you to their restaurant and feed you a traditional Costa Rican lunch. You can choose fish, chicken or vegetarian options. Overall a good time.

I cannot remember our tour guides name but we can tell you that he was with Alvin and the driver Randall, but his name escapes me.
However he and Alvin did a wonderful job educating us on the Costica Rica wildlife during our tour. Also Alvin got out of his kayake a couple of times to point out different wildlife. Following this tour we had a wonderful buffet lunch which we did not expect.
All 3 Gentlemen were very gracious and accommodating. Our tour was on Jan 30th.
Thank you for a great time... Kimberly and Robert from New Jersey.

We wanted to see as much wildlife as possible on our trip to Costa Rica and this tour didn't disappoint. Within the first five minutes of paddling we came upon a troop of monkeys and watched them move through the mangroves from just a few feet away. Our guide Danny was awesome! He has decades of experience working as a guide in Costa Rica and it shows. He shared his knowledge of the eco-system and his love for the natural environment and all of it was interesting to us and our teenage daughters.
One tip if you book through an agency, make sure you specify if you want single or double kayaks as that decision has to be made ahead of time. Highly recommend this tour!

We really enjoyed our kayak tour through the mangroves with Alejandro, Danny, and Flaco! Very peaceful morning with a few sightings of capuchin monkeys, tiger mask crabs, and of course, the four types of mangroves. The tour was about two hours, and wasn’t too strenuous (very smooth water.) Finished off with a great breakfast and coffee! Definitely recommend if you enjoy kayaking, a very easy and peaceful activity with knowledgeable guides!

We were picked up from our hotel, taken to lunch, and then to the river where the four of us took a two hour kayaking trip with our very knowledgeable guide, Mario. Easy paddling, saw capuchin monkeys, a baby crocodile, and lots of birds and crabs. Dress to get wet. It’s a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

What an incredible experience! Alan was the BEST! He was a fantastic guide and spotted so many things we never would have seen… we saw iguanas, basilisks, crabs, bats, herons, white ibis (I think?), hawks, a tiny little tamandua (anteater) but the highlight had to be the troops of capuchin monkeys! They were fearless and as interested in us as we were in them. Alan was friendly, personable and incredibly knowledgeable about the mangrove forest and surrounding area. We all learned so much. Tucanes tours provides water and a typical meal at the end, with an option of chicken, fish or vegetarian. Try the sour juice! One note - accept the offered transportation as the launch site is hidden and confusing to reach. We had our own car and planned to meet them there but we were glad we decided to take the van.

Hallo, we will make the mangrove tour 23.08.2019. We hear, to make the tour on this day is not possible because of the tides.
Question: Is it safe, that the tour on 23.08.2019 takes place; Is it also possible to make the tour on 24.08.2019. When does the tour starts? Where is the meeting point? We want to come with our car. Can we park at meeting point?
Written 16 July 2019
If you contact the company they will help you make the best possible arrangements. The tour bus made multiple stops based on where people were staying.
All that being said If I remember correctly we put our kayaks in near the kayak lodge hotel. Here’s it’s address
