About
This tour is one of the most exciting, as you will be able to appreciate the nocturnal animals that are not observed during the day. When the darkness falls, it seems that everything sleeps, but in reality, the night is the awakening of a large part of the animal life, that for many people, is unknown. Depending on your preference you can choose between water or land, walking through tropical forest trails, kayaking or boating through the mangrove canals of Isla Damas.

- Sightseer098835877690 contributionsWonderfulIt was amazing! Before the fishing I got to ride the buffalo and do a walk around the garden. The people were very friendly! I caught 4 fish and also saw a lot of animals like raccoons, lizards, birds, monkeys,… definetly recommended!Written 9 February 2025
- Y8115MYlaurenj0 contributionsThe Best Mangrove Forest Kayak Tour and Guide!!!We had the best time! You begin the tour in a beautiful palm oil plantation and learn some very interesting things. Then head out to the river and your kayak (or the boat, if you prefer). Our guide was Johnny Arturo. He is so knowledgeable and obviously loves what he does. He explains about the relationships of the flora and fauna while pointing out things we could never see on our own, like colorful birds, lizards and bats. A troop of white-faced capuchins stopped by to check us out. (Don't feed them!). Johnny is a terrific guide. He really made the tour the amazing experience that it was. There are a number of Tour companies that offer a mangrove boat or kayak trip. But THIS is the one you want!Written 8 February 2025
- Y8115MYlaurenj0 contributionsVery Best Mangrove Kayak Tour! This is the perfect kayak tour (or small boat, if you prefer). You start the tour with tasty fruits and information on a beautiful palm oil plantation. Our kayak guide was Jonny Arturo and he is amazing! SO knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and the unique relationships in the mangrove forest. You can’t help but respect the area and everything in it. We saw birds, bats, lizards, and a troop of white-faced capuchin monkeys. Had a terrific time! Afterwards, we had a traditional breakfast prepared by two kind and hard-working women. This is the tour to take!Written 8 February 2025
- sezlou792100 contributionsBest mangrove tour Manuel antonio areaMet our guide Jonny on arrival, he was very kind and informative. we felt lucky to have him as our guide on this tour. We saw lots of birds, lizards, monkeys and even a raccoon who almost jumped into our boat. Johnny respected nature and showed us the gardens, plants and told us lots about all of it. We stopped for food which we loved! I would highly recommend this tour and would go on it again. Brilliant fun. Even met a water buffalo!Written 3 February 2025
- Richard N0 contributionsAmazing small boat tourVery informative interpretive small boat excursion. Jhonny was an excellent guide for both flora and fauna. Also did the garden tour. Saw many different animals, reptiles, birds, and river dwellers.Written 28 January 2025
- Joe F0 contributionsA fun, beautiful and informative tour. This tour was fun, beautiful, and informative. My wife and I went with our adult daughters. We were visiting Costa Rica for the forth time. We have been on many tours and adventures but were unfamiliar with the mangrove forest. The tour was very interactive. We got to see birds, crabs, flowers and trees up close. We tasted fresh coconut milk. We learned that mangroves are resilient and adaptive. They seem to have been created to assist humans and the planet (an important source of O2). Mangroves are some of the toughest forests in the world. Basically, mangroves are the ultimate survivors and an important environmental ecosystem. We all enjoyed a beautiful boat ride and learned more about this interesting, unique, important ecosystem.Written 25 January 2025
- 979danielleh0 contributionsWell worth it and would do it again.Great time! Everything was perfect. The guide was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We saw a lot of wildlife and learned a lot of new things about Costa Rica.Written 25 January 2025
- Roy A0 contributionsKayak Adventure in the MangrovesLoved the kayak adventure through the mangroves. Enjoyed many wildlife sites through the journey including lively capuchin monkeys, birds and reptiles. Our guide was excellent, knowledgeable and engaging.Written 17 January 2025
- priscillan1520 contributionsWildlife and flora. It was a very good tour.We took the boat into the mangroves. Our guide was very knowledgeable regarding the plants and the wild life. We saw iguanas, cayman, raccoon, white faced capuchin, a boa snake, birds of many varieties. We went in the morning, the tour ended around 10:30 and they served us a traditional Costa Rican breakfast.Written 16 January 2025
- devind4150 contributionsHighly Recommended! Johny is great! This was a lovely tour that we highly recommend. Johnny was our tour guide and did an outstanding job making the tour fun, relaxing and educational!Written 10 January 2025
- jeffreyq20170 contributionsPleasant but Uneventful TourOur guide and the rest of the staff were very nice. But the activity is kinda dull. They walk you around the property to see some trees and water buffalo to start, which is pure filler. I wished we had driven there and skipped the lunch and property tour. The ride through the mangroves is pleasant but uneventful. You see a few animals and trees and get some exercise, but you can do that during the tour of Manuel Antonio National Park that most every visitor does. We passed another tour's boat where the guides were feeding monkeys so they would come close (which Nacarcosta rightfully disdains, though it is a competitive disadvantage); that was actually the highlight. All in all, this tour group does a good job, but it's not a must-do activity.Written 9 January 2025
- elliesV9902LU0 contributionsGreat experience & saw many animalsAwesome! Very knowledgeable and friendly guide, whose respect and enthusiasm for nature was appreciated. We saw several snakes, many lizards (including an iguana), a turtle, a baby crocodile, heron and other birds, a sloth and monkeys. Pace was good. We were provided delicious fruit before the tour which was appreciated. Definitely worthwhile. As a note to other potential visitors - would definitely recommend the kayak tour as it was peaceful, personalized and gave us a chance to take in our surroundings.Written 7 January 2025
- moc4930 contributionsGreat kayak tour with JonnyBeautiful trip in the kayaks with Jonny. The base is beautiful, with gardens and very nice facilities. Jonny was great, patient, and showed us very cool things about the natural world in the mangroves. We saw monkeys, scarlet macaws, iguanas, butterflies, a caiman, and Jonny told us about the ecology of the mangroves. The river was a little busy with motor boat tours. The boats were great and everyone was so welcoming. My 13 year old daughter enjoyed the activity, even though she had had enough of all our nature tours. The meal at the end was so good! ¡Pura Vida!Written 30 December 2024
- 771majbritte0 contributionsAn amazing mangrove experience! We had a fantastic mangrove morning tour with our guide Jhonny, who was very gracious and professional. We saw a lot of different animals, including animals that we had not seen anywhere else, e.g., hummingbirds, raccoons and a kayman. The mangrove tour was so beautiful and peaceful and the farm itself is an amazing place!Written 26 December 2024

We did a night mangrove tour with Oscar and would highly recommend it! He spotted many exotic birds, frogs, lizards, and bats, and was very knowledgeable about each species. Seeing the jungle at night from a boat was a unique experience we’ll always remember.

We thoroughly enjoyed our night time tour. It was so peaceful to be on the water at night. The guides were informative and very friendly and we were lucky enough to see a large crocodile in the water! Along with frogs, basilisks, birds, crabs and more.
