What to expect
  • After morning pickup at the cruise port, your guide drives you through Chilkoot Lake State Park to several scenic locations. Your guide explains how the animals fit into the Chikoot’s complex ecosystem and shares insights about their behavior. Depending on the time of year that you visit, you are more likely to see different animals. In May, June and July, eagles care for their young in the nest and wildflower blooms peak. Nice Adventure in Haines
Aug 2019
Cindy was our guide and photography coach. She did an excellent job helping all levels on us photographers get the type of shots we were looking for. Never saw a bear, but lots of beautiful eagles and nature in general.

Beautiful!
Jul 2019
After a speedy ferry ride through the fjord to Haines, we met up with Barbara, our most excellent guide for the afternoon. She showed us beautiful rivers, picturesquely populated by fisherman and colorful little boats and kayaks, eagles galore - three or four that ascended majestically from the cliff right below where we stood! - and we learned so much about the area, and the history of Haines. It was a beautiful afternoon!

Haines adventure
Great way to spend the day when stopping in Skagway on a cruise. Enjoy a comfortable van ride to several stops along the Chilkoot river and the Chilkoot lake. We saw more bald eagles than we could count and two adult brown bears along with three cubs. Scenery was breathtaking and the guide was great.

Terrific - wildlife viewing & nature tour
Jul 2018 • Friends
What a great experience we had on this tour. I booked this instead of taking one from our cruise ship. Our ship docked in Haines. It was a very short & easy walk to the meeting point. Our group size was about 12-14 which was great. So was our guide, Jen. We saw bears - a mama & her 3 cubs. They were across the river. We were able to watch them cross the river & then come up on our side. Amazing to see the cubs be able to get across the river. Jen kept us at a safe distance & then took us to a bridge to be able to watch them again. Then the bears walked under the bridge. It was an incredible experience. We also saw eagles at the lake. Thanks Jen & Rainbow Glaciers!

Saw lots of scenery and eagles
Aug 2018 • Couples
We had Jen as our guide and she was great. Very knowledgeable and good sense of humor. The scenery is breathtaking. We saw lots of eagles close up. We just missed the bears. (As we were driving up they were walking away) But the lake is beautiful and we are so glad that we did this tour. We were finished by 12:30 so we could spend the rest of the day in town.

Disappointed
Jul 2018 • Couples
This was our first stop on our cruise shore excursion and I was so looking forward to it. When we arrived 6 of us were put into an SUV which meant that we have to stuff 2 people in the back, 3 in the middle and put one up front. That would be ok, if your were getting in and out, in and out, in and out, in and out...like 5 or 6 times. After that, it just gets plain old. Our tour guide was painfully shy and although sweet as can be just didn't have that ol'tour guide spirit. She answered questions but didn't offer anything much more. Matter of fact, we all agreed to end out tour an hour earlier as we were all "done". I feel like we wasted an opportunity to do and see something else. We did see many bald eagles, but that's it. It wasn't worth the money sadly.

I'm glad to hear that you saw many bald eagles on our tour. Haines is known as the " Valley of the Eagles" for a good reason. I'm so sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our excursion. Our goal with Rainbow Glacier Adventures is to exceed our guests' expectations and we clearly let you down. I personally train all our guides and each has a different style and level of experience. No guide is perfectly compatible with all groups. I believe in each employee but I also take constructive criticism seriously. Sometimes, additional training is required and its only through feedback from guests like you that I know which guides and what type of training would have the most impact. I stand by our reputation as a "five-star" company. I would like to talk to you more in person about your experience. Please give me a call at your convenience.

Excellent Guide who took us to the best places for viewing the wildlife.
Jun 2018 • Couples
Jen is the BEST!!!! She told us about herself and her adventures as well as everything we could want to know about the wildlife in the area. Took us for lunch at the Pilot (?) House - best Salmon Bisque i ever had, but it should be called STEW, as it was FULL of salmon and veggies and excellent flavor. We saw eagles at a bend in the river where others wouldn't bother us, learned about the plants in the area, even TASTED sitka spruce! Can't imagine a better experience, THANKS TO JEN REID!!!

We really enjoy working with Uncruise and appreciate the confidence that Uncruise has put in us. We were chosen to provide an included rafting tour for all Uncruise guests when they come to Haines this season and it truly is an honor. Kim is a great driver and guide and you were lucky to have her as she is also one of our top photography guides.

Just perfect!
May 2018 • Friends
Took this tour during the cruise ship stop in Haines. Nate met us at the pier and away we went. Very relaxed, informative drive. Stopped to walk along the shore and look at rocks, to look at the beautiful views and wildlife. Saw eagles, watched surf scoters work together to get food. Nate set up a spotting scope so we could look at the snow and rock formations up high on the mountain. Chilkoot Lake was beautiful and we spent time just enjoying it.
If you love the beauty of nature, this outing is for you. You may be lucky and have Nate as a guide!
