About
Look for brown bears in their natural habitat on a bus tour of Chichagof Island. The dense population of bears on the island makes this an ideal trip for tourists hoping to spot bears in the wild. Plus, traveling with a guide who knows the region and bear patterns increases your chances of spotting a bear and provides security and education you don’t get if traveling on your own.

Despite how our need to cancel our next month's tour impacted your company, I truly appreciate how graciously and quickly you did so, and how you refunded my money within a couple of minutes. I look forward to taking your tour at a more opportune time.

This was a really fun time! It was on my bucket list to see a bear eat a salmon and this tour allowed me to check it off! The tour guides were wonderful and communicated with each other from various areas to ensure we could see a bear! They even allowed us to stay a little later so we could experience more than 1. It was a bit challenging because there wasn't much water and the salmon were not running -- but they still did everything they could to help ensure we had a great time.

We were quite pleased with this excursion through such a remarkable environment.
Stu Miller, a Tlingit tribal leader, was our guide. He was friendly and informative.
He puts forth his best effort to locate the bears! We did see a mother and two cubs
in the stream. It is an image that will stay in our minds forever - gorgeous. We saw deer and eagles, but beyond that, it is just a wonderful way to spend 3 hours.

great trip - Stu Mills, our guide, is the cultural leader of the Raven Tribe and was outstanding..The trip was beautiful, informative and we saw a Bear which the ship tour did not see. Obviously sighting Bear is not guaranteed but Stu knew where to go and even had cleared a trail to a special, potential viewing site. It was a great tour and well worth the price

We had a tribal elder leading our small tour. What a fabulous way to see the area.

We saw four bears, including one juvenile grizzly bear.

The scenery is beautiful, and the history of the area is interesting.

Great off the cruise ship tour!

So I give it a 2 but hubby gives a 3. I knew with wildlife it’s a gamble to see them but we saw nothing but the pictures in the drivers camera. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife. We only got out of the 3 hr van tour tour twice. When we stopped it was a glance of the area and “nope no bears” and moved on.

WARNING: if you have any physical limitations you might not want to take it. It was either everyone go or no one went. We were not allowed to stay in the van. The first stop we meet up with another driver. We all began to walk so my husband and I started walking. About that time two men had to relief themselves so our driver stayed as he had the rifle. The trail was very dangerous and so close to the edge of an embankment. I had to slow down as I wanted to be careful with my footing. We even had to duck under major branches to get thru. The first driver took off and left 3 of us by ourselves in the rainforest. The lady that was with us we stayed back with as she had a cane. That was a bit scary! Our driver was no where near us as he was with men peeing on a tree. He encouraged us to go and not wait.

We should’ve spent more time at a location and be patient for them to possibly show up. We also felt the tour was more about plugging a local lady for her medicinal cures. Once or twice would be fine but it came up a lot. Same stories over and over again. The tour said water was included but we never got any.

He did refer us to the restaurant and that was awesome food and views. Funny the gift store didn’t even have bears.

I will preface this by letting readers know we were there during a dry spell, and although it should have been peak salmon season, the salmon weren't yet running at all. The creeks were very low. You could even see the salmon jumping and waiting to come into the creeks. Because of this, the bears were scarce as well.

So, we met our guide just behind the activity center and walked through following the directions and had no trouble at all locating our group. We had a small group so we left as soon as we were all there even though we were all early. Our guide told us a lot about the area and the wildlife and was a great guide all around! We tried several locations bears frequent but had no luck other than bear tracks. Still he made sure we had a great time. We explored some wonderful mossy areas near a place bears frequent and stopped to pick and eat berries which everyone enjoyed.

I was worried the teens in our group would feel it was a bummer of an excursion but at the end of the trip the whole family still talked about how much fun it was to explore the wilderness areas on the island and, of course, the berry picking.

We had high hope for this tour. We basically drove around for 3 hours and stopped 3 times for 5-8 minutes each time. No bears. The driver had the microphone on for the first part and then turned it off so he could tell his life story to the person in the passenger seat. The rest of us just sat there staring into the woods. Evey once in a while we would pass another van and exchange information about what they did not see. In 2019 you could use radios to do this avoiding wasting time driving to a spot someone just saw nothing. We get you can't guarantee seeing a bear, but tell us more about the area or something local. That's what we paid for.

Disappointing excursion. Only saw one bear. Spent the remaining hours just driving around looking for another one. The guide was also negative towards other guides that seemed unprofessional.
