About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Melissa K0 contributionsGlorified Uber ride to places you could walk to yourself. It was a glorified Uber ride to places that we could have walked to ourselves. Supposed to be small group, but really 3 vans of 12 traveling together. Our driver was kind of clueless didn't want to wear his seat belt and alarm kept ringing until he would finally put it on 5 minutes in after we said something. We asked him questions but he didn't know the answers. He admitted he doesn't have a spiel about what we were seeing so not a guided tour. He didn't stop to take pictures like other van driver did. And didn't really drive well. So now for the "tour" itself. It was very rushed with not enough time at each location. First stop raptor trust. Tickets if we went on own would be $16. It was cool seeing the injured birds and learning about them. We only had 30 mins to explore. Next stop fortress of the bears. That was disappointing. I saw 4 bears living in an enclosure kind of small. Felt sorry for them. I've seem better ones at zoos. $15 ticket cost to get in. Next stop totem pole park. Getting off the van ( no picture he was like well I guess we could do this later) We walked to the salmon bridge. The driver did talk about the salmon and give some info. Then said walk around with only about 15 minutes then time to get back to the van. You need WAY more time than that. Visitors center was very informative, movie to watch and native artifacts which was free!. That alone was over15 minutes. The totem park is 113 acres with 20 totem poles. You need at least an hour for that alone. While walking around we found a path that lead right to the raptor trust! We did not take the van back. We stayed longer explored and walked back to town. The totem pole park is an 8 minute walk from town. We could have walked to the park and did the raptors on our own and it would have cost $16. Bears not worth seeing. I paid $339 for 2 people and admission cost was only $62. It was by no means a guided tour, way overpriced. Don't do. Very disappointing.Written 22 August 2024
- Sightseer686440632750 contributionsThe Best!We had a Awesome Experience. Boat Captain Justin, Naturalist Kacie, and Taylor did a great job in making sure we all had a wonderful time. We even got in on a group of Orcas, that is usually hard to find. Great Experience!Written 19 July 2024
- CindyCarling0 contributionsFind Another OptionWe booked with this group so we could have a small group tour. Easy to get in and out, not have to have unnecessary waiting around. The "van" had trouble so we had to wait for another vehicle. We were going to be put in a van group with another family that had added a few members to their group, with a man with a wheelchair. It would have been nice to know this could happen because it slows things down. If we had know this was possible we could have tried to make other arrangements. We were traveling with friends that needed assistance and this was our turn to have time without the need to do a tour with ADA restrictions. We fully support ADA tours and are grateful they are available. It ended up there was not enough space on that van so we were told we were going to be in a comfortable Cadillace Escalade. We were with 3 other passengers and ended up in the back of the car that had a 3rd row seat that would only fit very small children...not comfortable. We were told we were going to change into a van so we could all be more comfortable. The driver talked constantly and missed the turn for their office. The driver dropped the 5 of us off at a new first destination, and then met us at the location at the end with a van. I tried to pay in advance, but they wanted to wait for the excursion to be over. I tried to pay at the end and they were busy and not able to take my payment on the phone. I was told they would call me back to get payment. They did call and I gave my credit card and was told it would show up on my billing statement as a funeral home. Two days later another person called to get payment, I told them I had already paid. they said "oh, okay." The accounting is a mess. Over all it was poorly run, the vehicles were not great and the accounting was not managed well.Written 14 July 2024

- Explore763510 contributionsTotems, eagles and bears... OH MY!Jim was thee best tour guide! If you're ever in Sitka, definitely book this excursion. Jim was earnestly well versed on the ares and the animals. Not only that, but he took us to get hot dogs too, lol!!!Written 5 July 2024
- Philip H0 contributionsSitka Raptor, Bears and Totem Poles. Very disappointed in the lack of information provided by the tour guide.Trip Advisor did not send email 14 days before with tour time as said. Found out 2 days before that my tour time affected us getting on our ship by gangway up. Had to call and spent $2 a minute to explain my situation. Very upsetting. The tour itself was subpar. Not much information given about Sitka. Tour guide, Alex, had a difficult time answering questions. Not worth $295 for 2 people. We basically walked thru the museums on our own. Very disappointed in this Sitka Tour.Written 1 July 2024
- Rebecca W0 contributionsHighly, highly recommend the rail, suspension bridge, and bus tour in Skagway Alaska! We did the Rail, Summit, & Suspension Bridge with Brunch walk in Skagway, Alaska on 6/9/24 - my husband and I plus two teenage boys, ages 15 and 17. It was fantastic!!! One of the best excursions we did in Alaska and we did a lot and they were all pretty impressive! The train ride was incredible! The views and the terrain are hard to describe - something you’ve got to see for yourself! We even got to stand outside the cars and take pictures. And the suspension bridge was a sight to behold all on its own. Some of the most incredible pictures we took the whole trip were taken here. Then we had a bus ride back to the cruise ship which included 2 more scenic stops - one which had a waterfall! Seriously, this excursion was PACKED with goodness. Highly recommended!Written 16 June 2024
- mercymoi20 contributionsExcellent tour of Hoonah, Culture and Wild LifeRead about the tour on a Cruise Critic message board. Very glad we did. It was a great tour from Jack and Howard. They picked us up outside Icy Strait Point and took us around Hoonah including their home and the surrounding area. They made sure we saw lots of wildlife. Both Jack and Howard have a passion for their culture and town. An excellent tour.Written 2 June 2024

- RuthyGlasgow0 contributionsWhat an amazing tour, and getting to hold the puppies!Amazing tour. You get to sled with the husky dogs with the musher at the back guiding the dogs and they go at some speed. It was thrilling! The noise of the dogs who are aching to run, that's their life, to run. As soon as they start to run they stop barking? Unbelievable. Then some hot chocolate or other beveridge, wee talk on the trails the huskies took years ago when the diphtheria virus struck and to get the medicine to the children . All about the Husky race every year. So very interesting. Then the really good point, in holding the husky puppies. So cute. Best tour of all.Written 10 October 2023
- T3362BIsusanh0 contributionsBears OMG, bears and eaglesNice excursion. Seeing the bears up close was amazing and a real treat. They feed the 2 brown bears while we were there and they stood on their hind legs to catch the salmon. The other bears were happily lounging, not pacing back and forth as I have seen in zoos. They appear very content to live at the fortress. 5* I highly recommend and the money you pay helps keep the fortress going to help the injured eagles and bears.Written 26 September 2023
- TravelTripper220 contributionsBad experience!Do not take this tour! Where do I begin? We were going to be on shore from a cruise and had to make sure the tour didn't start until after 11 am. We could never receive the necessary information. The customer service lines with Viator all go to the Philippines. For 2 days I was on hold for over 4 hours as the agents were hard to communicate with and could never reach the tour operator. There was a portal to contact the tour operator but he would not respond for 2 days. He is located in the UK. So here I am headed to Sitka AK and the vendor is in the Philippines and the operator works out of the UK. Three different time zones. A nightmare. When he finally answered me he said I was to meet Baranof Tours. I had already cancelled my tour with Viator. I simply booked with Baranof directly. Had an identical tour for $100 less money. No middleman in the UK. Viator is getting a blackeye using far flung operators that do not have local contacts. Apparently the UK operator contracts with Baranof and then resells the tours at a high mark up. Just call Baranof directly.Written 4 September 2023
- TimSin0 contributionsGreat tour through SitkaThis was a great semi private tour. Our guide was Steven with a V, he was very knowledgeable and pleasant throughout the tour. Although about 2.5 hours long we really got to experience a lot at the locationsWritten 1 August 2023
- Jill_Travel_0 contributionsEnjoyable Tour!We booked this excursion with Princess Cruise line and it was called "Rail, Summit & Suspension Bridge With Brunch". The views for the rail ride were great and our train guide Tyler did a nice job talking about the scenery. After we got off the train, our motorcoach driver Dahlham took us to the Suspension Bridge where we were served pancakes and bison sausage in a beautiful dinning room (see photo). The Suspension Bridge provided us with beautiful views. After spending some time at the bridge, Dahlham took us back via the Kondike highway making various stops along the way. We saw the Bridal Veil Falls and the Gold Rush Cemetery. Dahlham did a great job keeping us entertained and made the bus ride an enjoyable experience! The only negative thing about this excursion was it was 6 hours long.Written 27 July 2023
- maniscorgis0 contributionsSkagway Alaska Yukon Rain and Bus excursionThis was an excellent tour, made even better by our tour guide Mike. He knew the route by heart and the best places to stop for great scenic views and pictures. We went north into Canada via bus and then back on the train so we got the best of both worlds. It was easy to tell that Mike loves Alaska and his job. HIGHLY recommend this tour, to me it's a must do!Written 18 July 2023

I picked this excursion because the reviews sounded good and they said it was considered 'easy'. Yes it's easy if you are not disabled like myself. I do a lot of walking where I live. I have a cane and when days aren't so good, I use a walker. The description I read regarding this excursion was you'll take a small bus ride to the marina, where you'll get on a boat and take a trip to the lodge via the boat ride. I've been on many buses as an adult, not once was my bus a school bus for little children. Our bus ride to the marina was on a school bus designated for little children not full size adults and one with a disability (minimum paralysis). This wasn't comfortable or fun in any way. I've been on boats before, tour boats and fishing boats. They were at a dock that was level and flat and easy to get to. Not this boat. This boat was at the end of the dock. In order to reach it, you had to walk down a ramp that was very steep. It took me about 5 minutes to get down the ramp with the help of my husband. The boat ride was very loud, (bring earplugs). The boat ride was fun and informative if you could hear the guide. Once we got to the lodge there was another steep ramp I had to walk up. This wasn't easy. The walk through the trail was fine. The trail had a boardwalk all the way through it. Our guide was knowledgeable and very friendly. After the walk it was time to eat. The crab feast was yummy. After lunch it was time to return to our cruise ship. This time I got a ride down the steep ramp to the boat. The ride on the boat was fine, a little loud but fine. Once we returned to the marina it was time to walk up another steep ramp. This time we had a charter bus to take us back, it was much more comfortable. This is a great excursion if you don't have mobility issues.

Every description from the Princess Cruise excursion on this event was spot on. The motorcoach to the boat, pass the eagles' nest, Fred and Wilma, to the Silverking Lodge for the fantastic feast. Outstanding. Bonus was a short walk into the rainforest right at the back of the lodge. They touched on just about everything for our short visit. Super friendly and helpful staff all around. If you have the time to get out of the town, this is it.

The people were very nice but I was not impressed by the food.
There are so many other tours I am sorry I did not book a different tour.
It is not an adventure. It is a bus ride and then an enclosed boat ride.
I should have gone to town.

We have been coming to this lodge for a couple years now with my husband and every year we are amazed by the staff and their attention to detail. The food is amazing, the staff is incredibly friendly, the rooms are clean, and every time we leave we feel like we are leaving friends.

It was a rainy day for our adventure, but our boat was enclosed and warm! We saw whales, sea lions, and other sea life, as well as birds and a one ton eagle nest. There was more food than we could eat at the Silverking Lodge, and it was delicious! Crab legs, mussels, clams, shrimp, potatoes, corn, bread, and homemade cookies to end the meal. There was also a nature walk in the forest, and it's hard to imagine a more beautiful walk.
