Experience the magic of the African bush with a two-hour game drive on our 2,200 hectare reserve at the foothills of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Our knowledgeable game rangers will enthrall you with interesting facts about the wildlife you will view on your safari. Plett Game Reserve is now home to four of Africa’s famous Big 5, with the recent arrival of elephants to complement the buffaloes, rhinos and leopards. You will also encounter many species of antelope, giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodiles. Birdlife at the game reserve is also abundant, as are the smaller buck and other wild animals that inhabit this protected area of the Garden Route. Our experienced rangers are always happy to impart information on any of the wild animals you spot.

      Look elsewhere
Firstly, I’d booked my slot, saw the forecast looked wet so emailed asking for the earlier slot. As the ride is non refundable even if they cancel on you! I had confirmation of the 10am ride time and got there at 9:30 as it said. When I arrived at reception the lady, who wasn’t the most pleasant to communicate with, said she’d emailed me to say a horse was injured so they don’t have space for me anymore. I checked my emails before leaving as only get wifi at our accommodation. Came back for the afternoon ride with my partner who was joining me, explained I still hadn’t got the email and she said they sometimes get lost as it’s a bad connection. She wasn’t particularly apologetic for wasting an hour of our time in travelling that morning! The ride itself was ok, if my partner was heavier there’s no way we’d of ridden the little horses. I can’t believe they don’t advertise a weight restriction as they are only small. We saw most of the animals you’d expect to see and it was extra special being on a horse up close. BUT I wish I’d looked at other reserves as this one just seems like they’ve popped a load of animals in a big field. We’d done 5 safaris at different locations by this point and I’d be extremely disappointed if I’d done it as a driven safari.

      Wildlife & horseback - perfect.
We enjoyed a pleasant couple of hours strolling around the reserve on horseback. The guide led us to various areas where different animals could be seen and gave some info about each type of animal. Guide was knowledgeable, horses were placid, animals were relaxed and easy to view what could be better? Being on horseback had the advantage of no motor noise and an excellent all-round view compared to a truck.

      very disappointing, unfortunately
We visited with some friends about 3 years ago and it was decent. Took some other friends this time and unfortunately it was very disappointing. Have heard some rumblings about how the animals are treated which also turns us away. Shame

      A Must Do !
We had the most beautiful day out at the Plett Game Reserve. Our guide, Patric was very well knowledge and made us all feel very comfortable, answering all our questions. The views are stunning, paired with amazing healthy game to admire. A must do! Thank you to the team for such a lovely day!

      A paradise in the wild
We had a very good time at the lodge. Everyone made our stay just perfect. Beautiful location, very nice outside opportunities to relax and recharge. Dinner and breakfast were also very good. We also did the Safari, which we also definitely recommend! We can 100% recommend this place! Thank you very much for your hospitality!

I'm no rider but this was still one of the highlights of our trip!
Fortunately no riding experience is necessary, these well cared for horses know what they're doing, my job was just to stay on and enjoy. I did both. To be so close to a six week old giraffe and a baby rhino as well as the other animals was an absolute highlight of the holiday. The tour guide was knowledgeable and tok great care enabling us to be as close as it was safe to be to these awesome creatures. Highly recommend.

      Book at your own peril!
Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this accommodation. We had to haul our luggage up an 80 metre gravel (full of lumps and bumps) path, luggage wheels of no use here. The reception hall was open, which is fine, however, the table where we signed in was covered in disgusting bird droppings and debris from their nest directly above the table. Our room although large was another disaster, all the windows were wide open when we arrived, no screens - within minutes there were two swallows flying through our room. It was obvious this was a common occurrence as there was evidence of bird droppings on the rafters of the room. When the toilet was flushed it gurgled up through the shower floor drain. When the front door was closed there was a large gap at the bottom, where the walls met the roof it was the same issue - you could see daylight in numerous places. We had booked for a two night stay, but left after one, forfeited the room charge for the second night. This accommodation is completely neglected and in my opinion a health hazard!

      Glorified zoo, don't bother.
Visiting this place my husband and I felt so sad it's like a glorified zoo. We thought the animals would be roaming freely but the elephants are put into a pen in the evening they have crocodiles in a small pond with fencing around & two lions in a cage with one tree for shelter. It was so sad to see this I would not recommend it go to a rescue and Rehabilitation centre instead.

OK price and OK place but not what we expected. Lions in enclosure so very zoo feeling but understand why. Great to see rhino's however.

nice people but animals a bit disappointing
First of all to be fair: we had bad wheather conditions which may influence our review. The Lodge has a nice atmosphere, but is a bit dark, when the sun isn´t shining. Staff was very helpful and friendly, but seems to be a bit overextended. Food was good, so we would try again next time. The game drive was o.k., nice ranger, blankets and raincoats because of the wheather, that really helped a lot. Animals could be seen, but as the elephants were accomained by a "trainer", lions and crocodiles were in a safty area (we understand why of course) it feels like a big zoo and did not reach our expectations, sorry

      In a bad state.
Took a drive to the park for refreshments. We should have realized a lack of professionalism when we got there and the gate to the game farm was standing open. We ordered milk shakes for our grandchildren.... sorry, no ice cream. Cappuccino for the adults.... sorry we don't have. 2 Lattes and 2 cups of Ceylon tea. What did we get.... rooibos tea. The lodge looks shabby and run down. Poor advert for our area. We won't go back there.

Confess this was not on our holiday plans but when the forecast was cool and rainy thought we might see plenty of animals. Maybe we had been spoilt at our Eastern Cape game reserves cos we got a much better game drive and 3 course lunch for a similar price paid. This felt like a safari park rather than a game reserve.Vehicle was in poor condition and my wife’s seat seemed broken. Tour guide not particularly informative and seemed more happy to talk to a fellow passenger who sat up front with him. Driver kept on saying couldn’t go there cos he might get stuck. In reality ground wasn’t particularly slippery. As such we only saw the giraffes in the far distance and no sign of the elephants. Seemed to drive past the same zebras many times. The lions were in their enclosure. Only positives from our drive was seeing 2 hipppos and a white rhino. Wished we had kept to our original holiday plans.

Took us 2 hours to drive there. Could not even buy a bottle of water there.
What a dissapointment, its not as advertised, no coffee shop, was told to drive to the Welness centre for coffee where there was no one in sight. no directions to a coffee shop.
Then drove back to the reception for the safari drive which was 2 hours
We would not recommend going here, and it was pretty expensive for what we got and saw

Nature did not disappoint. We had some lovely sightings.
However, the trip was marred by the HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE comments of the ranger in response to a question about homosexuality
among giraffe. His answer revealed his ignorance and was also offensive. He let himself down by trying to be clever with his "social" commentary rather than impressing us with a knowledgeable and informed response about wildlife.
As a former tourist guide, I was also disappointed at his lack of effort and enthusiasm to fully engage with us and share his knowledge of the bush. This reserve will never have the allure and magic of Kruger or Addo or Pilanesberg et al. However, an enthusiastic , knowledgeable guide would have added great value to the experience and made up for what the reserve lacks in the way of wildlife and energy.
Unfortunately for us, the ranger let himself down in this department too. The outing would have been richer for him as well had he made more effort to interact with us. HIS BAD.

A great two hour drive on the reserve with Tertius. He is a resourceful game ranger that gave a lot of information about the animals’ behavior and how they react in the wild. We saw a myriad of antelope, buffalo, hippo, rhino, elephants, crocodile, zebras, wildebeest and resident cows. The drive on the reserve was an excellent destress from city life. As mentioned, if not for Tertius’ wealth of information, the drive would have been less exciting. We saw so many animals that the cost was not even a factor. I recommend the drive at the reserve to everyone who wants to see animals up close and without the fanfare of ‘where is the big five!’

This was an expenesive waste of time. There was nowhere to buy drinks. The drive was adequate yet very few explanations. When we asked a question there were short snappy answers and some poor jokes The reserve is severly lacking animals for the amount of money we paid. No predators which was a huge let down. Some of the animals were to far away to get a picture.
I do believe with a trained tour guide that could spot animal tracks, droppings, foot prints and explanations about the different species could have made this experince far more worthwhile

Never done anything like this before so was unsure of what we would see and how informative it would be. We had a great time, apart from Hippos we saw every type of animal they had. Although they hippos only showed their ears. We went mid morning so would have probably been better early or later in the day to see these. Guide was very good and got us as close as he could without frightening the animals. Although this is a game reserve it did feel like they were in the wild and could roam wherever they liked. Would have been nice to be able to have had a drink there, but no catering facilities.

Not worth the money or the drive. Ever been so disappointed a few elephants, few giraffe hippo one rhino and antelope no buffalo and the guide was hopeless. We had seen most of it before we even got to reception, very run down and just not welcoming at all. For South Africa this was very very poor.

Unfortunately, a big disappointment. We have visited game drives before; however, this was not a highlight. The resort itself is very outdated and without guests. Upon arrival, I had already wondered why the resort itself is not really fenced. After the tour it was clear to me: there are not enough wild animals ;-) We only saw Zebras, Ostrich, Blue Wildebeest, 5 Giraffes and 5 Elephants. Two hippos were in the river. Afterwards an endless drive over jogging track to caged crocodiles.

Unfortunately no experience for us. Not recommended at all with children, as the tour was not designed interesting and dragged out by the crocodile visit. The guide gives the impression that this is his 1,000 tour and he just presses play.

    One single lion on show.

I you are a SouthbArican, you get a three hundred rand discounted. What about all the International gusts who have kept it going for years?

My husband and I visited the game reserve in January 2020. From booking in to checking out, our experience was awesome. Heike, Patrick, Nunu and the other ladies were friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, rooms clean and the views was to die for. We saw all the animals on our game drive. Definitely a place to go to.

    Thanks
