- V4137RVjuliew0 contributionsHop on Hop off LaGuGu cultural township tourWe did the LaGuGu cultural township tour. It is a must do tour for Cape Town to understand Apartheid and how its consequences reverberate until today . The struggle for equality continues socioeconomically. Tourism helps the shanty towns.Written 16 May 2024
- colmb2020 contributionsExcellent insight into the TownshipsOur guide James was excellent and gave us a great insight into both the history and reality of the Townships. We visited Langa and James made sure we were safe at all times. It is a unique trip and one we woukd throughly recommend.Written 26 March 2024
- MMandEB0 contributionsWonderful full day trip to Cape Agulhas from Cape Town. This company was recommended by the lovely people at the tourist information kiosk in the V&A waterfront. Very easy and efficient to book on line and our guide, Nelson, was excellent.Written 21 March 2024
- Therese12340 contributionsHighly recommend a tour with a local in the townshipIf you get the chance take up the option of visiting a township while you’re staying in Cape Town. It can be confronting but also opens your eyes to the other side of life here. Many people struggle everyday with security of food, safe shelter and sanitation. The local churches seem to be working with people in their daily lives and despite the hardships there is often a sense of resilience and hopefulness.Written 14 January 2024
- hanstG4191VA0 contributionsExtraordinary City tour!We had an extraordinary good city tour with James. He showed us the beauty of Cape Town and broaden our perspectives of Cape Town and South Africa. James was very kind and gave a very good service. We will definitely recommend both milebymile and most definitely James as or guide!!Written 28 December 2023

- Taylo-ali0 contributionsA historical reality checkFriends visiting SA and my husband and I went on this cultural tour spanning the District 6 museum and the Langa township. Chippa was our guide who gave a very thorough overview of the museum prior to walking around which helped with sifting through the information. A great museum with so much history one should know, about apartheid, the struggles of the SA people and the hardships encountered by them. Langa township was enlightening, visiting the up and coming entrepreneurs, and the variety of housing levels from very basic to government bought. Chippa made it extremely interesting and relevant. Thank you, we all learnt so much!Written 15 May 2023
- pjf03100 contributionsAn “off the beaten path” township tour we could never have done on our own!Rachel Miles did an excellent job, providing us with a tour that exceeded our expectations! Not only did our guide, Mawe Thu, live in the diverse township of Landa in the infamous District 6; but his family was Khosa, a tribe with historical significance in South Africa. Our 5-hour tour was the perfect length to learn about Cape Town’s difficult, but important, history. Yet we also had time to visit with several local artists and a pottery studio, have a short drum lesson, and enjoy a delicious lunch where we “shared Momma’s love” at Mzansi Restaurant, during which we were entertained by local Landa musicians who played on their hand-made instruments. This was a tour we will remember!Written 26 April 2023
- Madeline M0 contributionsSee and hear about the authentic side of a township!Excellent and informative morning spent with our knowledgeable and interesting guide, Chippa! He introduced us to the history of District Six in the larger context of apartheid. In Langa we met local people who provided stories of their lives in the township. We also met new entrepreneurs, people working to support their community and making a difference in their lives. If you go, and we highly recommend you do, ask for Chippa. You will not be disappointed.Written 16 November 2022
- 873bernardb0 contributionsAn in depth review by a resident of langaOur guide Nelson took us to the district six museum and outlined the history of district six and the relocation of the people to the township's in great detail. He then took us to the township of Langa and showed many details of township life. Among the details were a visit to a preschool a pub and an authentic African healer. The greatest impression left up on me was the enormity of the crime committed by the apartheid government and the resilience of the people to overcome poverty and begin the climb to financial security.Written 10 November 2022
- Jonna I0 contributionsMemorable and educational tour in TownshipWe was picked up at our hotel in the morning. The tour started with a visit at District six museum which was a perfect introduction for the following walk around Langa. Our great guide for this half day tour, named Chippa, could really explain both the history and the actual situation in township in the best way.Written 2 November 2022
- EllenS25740 contributionsReally nice tour!It was such a pleasure to meet Nelson, his family/friends in the Langa township and to see where he grew up! Its really nice to see how everyone get along with each other! This tour was one of our highlights of our holiday! Would recommend it to everyoneWritten 5 October 2022
- MauBetsc0 contributionsOverpriced Township TourWe booked a township tour, which was supposed to last about 4 hours. However, unfortunately the tour did not at all hold its promises. We went to church, which was impressive. Otherwise, we just drove through the townships without any stop (no healer, no tavern, no market). The information we got was interesting, but often a bit superficial. It was a nice experience, but not more - it is just not what is promised on the website and definitely overpriced.Written 13 February 2022
- Deedatravala0 contributionsSo much to see and doWe had a really good day with Vince and learnt so much. I would recommend asking for him as a guide!Written 24 September 2020
- robertamK9150WD0 contributionsAn Educational ExperienceThis tour plus the District Six Museum should be part of every tourist's time in Cape Town. Our guide was very interesting. It was a very personal tour as there were only 4 of us. This was an eye-opening experience; I learned so much that I will never forget.Written 17 February 2020

I originally had booked the half day tour, but at I was the only one that tour didn’t happen. They offered the full day tour without a surcharge instead.
The day tour is amazing and I think I would have missed out on a lot of things on the half day tour. Egon was entertaining and a very knowledgeable guide.

This was a second tour with Jarat and its wonderful guide Alistair, and we had another amazing day. The charming coastal drive and gourgeous bays along the way, Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, African penguin colony, and a wonderful lunch at Blue Merlyn overlooking the ocean left precious memories to be cherished forever. The only regret is that during both of our tours, we did not make it to Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens because we did not want to rash through every place. We saw a large family of baboons (about 40) walking along the road, and a rare young male Hartebeest on a short detour from the prescribed path taken by Alastair in the Nature Reserve. Once again, Alistair’s knowledge and inside on the culture, history, ecology, politics, and his personal experience surviving apartheid made the trip even more special. If booking a private tour, I would recommend requesting a van or an SUV, so the person sitting in the backset has greater visibility. We had a sedan.

Very interesting tour as history comes alive when you visit places like Cape Point. The guide was very informative. I bypassed to trip to an island to view seals and enjoyed a good coffee at local cafe. a local person had seals performing by the wharf which was fun. Cost a few rand as a tip.

We did the cape point day trip on a terrible day rain and gusty winds. Our driver and guide James was fantastic. He catered to our every need. He had wet weather ponchos for us and on a number of occasions stood in the rain himself to assist us. His knowledge and professionalism was second to none. Thanks mate for a great day.

The full-day trip to Cape Point was great value for money, as it lasted almost 10 hours and was a varied and interesting day. The scenery was spectacular, and we had enough time at each location to see and do what was necessary, from taking photos and climbing up to Cape Point lighthouse, to viewing the penguins and exploring some of Kirstenbosch Gardens.
Our guide, Letitia, was very informative and went out of her way to answer all our questions and accommodate all our needs. Nothing was too much trouble, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank her again for a wonderful day.
P.s. While I chose not to go on the trip to Seal Island, I felt perfectly happy wandering around Hout Bay and having a coffee while waiting for the others to return.
