About
Explore the Bo-Kaap with one of its renowned residents Shereen Habib. Starting at the Bo-Kaap Museum, wind your way past the neighborhood’s major sites and secret corners on old cobbled streets. You’ll visit the oldest mosque in South Africa and learn the real significance behind the Tana Baru Cemetery. Shereen’s intimate knowledge and unique humour reveals a living history of the Bo-Kaap that cannot be found anywhere else. The tour is ready whenever you are. It plays audio automatically at exactly the right time and place using your smart phone's GPS and the VoiceMap mobile app, which also works offline.
Bo-kaaps brightly painted houses provide excellent photography throughout, and there’s also a great lunch eatery where you can sample ridiculously tasty Cape Malay cuisine. Start the tour in the app, put your phone in your pocket, and let Shereen direct you through the streets. The total walking distance is 1km and takes about a half hour without stopping, but you can pause anytime!

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- bart_omiejw4600 contributionsAccesible trip!Amazing views, fully wheelchair accessible, breathtaking landscape, restaurant close by, completely for free....Written 22 November 2024
- lslyChicago0 contributionsGardens with spectacular viewsBeautiful gardens. Wish we had more time to explore but we had another appointment scheduled. I would spend 2.5-4 hours exploring. We had less than 2 hours and it was not enough. The grounds are on the side of the mountain so some uphill walking but at a slow and steady pace very doable for anyone. A must see while visiting Cape Town area.Written 23 October 2024
- pamferg0 contributionsRip off servicePaid for the audio and they don’t offer this service anymore! Terrible- they had to ask a manager what it was! So I wasted my money and time trying to get it straightened out!Written 3 October 2023
- Dee D0 contributionsA wonderful and magical place within the City!Felt good to be back in the Cape. Would not miss a chance to visit this tranquil and calming place. Highly recommended !!!Written 2 October 2023
- Mattmiami0 contributionsDon’t miss these gardens! An absolute MUST if you are in Cape Town. The seemingly endless trails of spectacular plants, bushes, trees and flowers are striking. We really enjoyed visiting these superb gardens.Written 6 September 2023
- andrewolivermorley0 contributionsMagnificentWe had visited the gardens over 15 years ago in November so a revisit was always our intention. We were blown away by the sheer scale of this area with it’s amazing vistas of the mountains and awesome views over to the city. It was a shame that both the bird of paradise and the protea had finished flowering and the agapanthus was going over but this made us appreciate the green ! The sky walk is a fantastic addition and the food at the restaurant was delicious.Written 18 January 2023
- ChatelaineLondon0 contributionsMisleadingThis is just for an audio tour NOT entrance to the gardens which we had to pay for when we arrived. The audio tour, we were informed by the cashier, NO longer exists when they tried to scan the bar code on the ticket so this is a misleading product not worth purchasing!!Written 7 February 2020
- pbleeze660 contributionsStunning Great day outAll my friends that have been to Cape Town said we had to go and they were so right. What a great place, you would never think you was in a city when you walked around such a lovely place. We spent 6 hours there just looking at the plants and birds and just chilling out. You really have to put this on your list of what to do in Cape TownWritten 14 November 2019

I did this tour in French with my boyfriend in June. We both found the tour incredibly interesting and loved hearing Shereen's stories. The added sound effects created a surreal experience. I've done similar tours of the Bo Kaap but they lacked the personal aspect that makes this tour so great.
