About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- CLockTravler0 contributionsGreat experience hiking the Lion's Head trail.I completed this hike with Patrick from Cape Escape Tours. There were two other women that were part of this group hike. Patrick was the best guide for the hike. He knew the trail very well and was very good at making sure we were aware of the trail conditions. He let us know when sections of the trail were slippery or sandy and made sure we were all comfortable on the difficult sections. This was a sunset hike and it started getting dark partway back on our return. Patrick had headlamps for everyone in the group. This would have ben a very difficult descent without the head lamps. At the top of the mountain you definitely need both hands to navigate through the rocky areas. I love this hike with very diverse trail sections. I would highly recommend using Patrick as your guide, especially if this is your first time completing this hike.Written 17 August 2024
- Scott K0 contributionsMountain biking Capetown, Stellenbosch and WellingtonWe spent an amazing 5 days mountain biking between Cape Town and Wellington with Patrick our host and guide. Patrick organised all our accommodation on vineyards and small hotels along the way which were excellent. The riding is a mixture of single track and four wheel drive track which at times gives you great views over different districts along the route, absolutely breathtaking vistas. Patrick went at our pace and is a very pleasant chap answering all our questions along the way about different features and historical places. Highly recommendWritten 15 August 2024
- Tom_Lourdes0 contributionsA fantastic introduction to the Cape! Our family engaged Patrick (Cape Escape Tours) for two days, as we were brand new to Cape Town. The first morning, he guided us expertly through the beautiful and expansive Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. From there, we drove south, down the False Bay coastal highway to the town of Kalk Bay. He took us first to the fish docks, where we saw the fresh catch (and seals awaiting scraps) as well as salted snoek fish drying in the sun. Next, he took us to Kalk Bay’s nearby beach-front town, and gave us our space to shop in the mixture of antique shops and beach boutiques. We met at the Brass Bell, a delicious restaurant separated from the breakers by tidal lap-pools. My wife and I enjoyed beer and wine with our lunch, while Patrick responsibly abstained. After lunch we continued down the coast to the Boulder Beach penguin colony, and then finally to the Cape of Good Hope lighthouse. While the sites and scenery were inherently beautiful and fascinating, Patrick’s historical and ecological commentary gave depth and meaning to a day of sightseeing. For our second day we requested a short spin through Bo-Kaap, and then a trip through wine country. For this, Patrick, a Frenchman, was a natural. After a colorful stroll through Bo-Kaap, we drove to the beautiful, ancient town of Stellenbosch, full of Dutch architecture and luxury shopping. After exploring for an hour or two, we regrouped with Patrick and drove to the nearby Delaire-Graff Estate for a wine tasting. We enjoyed Patrick’s company at the tasting table, but again he responsibly abstained. From there, Patrick drove us to the quaint and historical town of Franschhoek for lunch and wine in a delicious French restaurant. Patrick regrouped with us after lunch and he returned us to our Cape Town hotel, discussing history and current events along the way. We really appreciate Patrick’s knowledge, judgment and professionalism, and genuinely enjoyed his company and friendship. He provided us with a great exposure to the country around Cape Town.Written 10 August 2024
- Climber678116963860 contributionsPhenomenal guidiing for a mtb ride around Table MountainWe, I.e. my wife and I, were lucky enough to engage Patrick as a guide for a Mtb ride around Table Mountain. Patrick pucked us up at our hotel and drove us to the start of the ride. We were provided with excellent full suspension bikes. The ride itself was 40+ km of a enjoyable mix of gravel, single track, cart tracks and some tarnac. On the route, Patricik provided us with cultural and historical knowledge about the sights. We really loved the ride and totally recommend Patrick as a guide for anyone who would like to do a Mtb ride in the Cape Town area.Written 9 July 2024
- cxnelson090 contributionsCan’t beat 30 years experience in Cape Town! The night before the sunrise hike, Patrick messaged us with availability. We jumped on it! He gave detailed instructions for when and where to meet for this beautiful sunrise hike on Lion’s Head. In the morning, he was there at the base waiting for us with lamps. Thank goodness Patrick told us to bring a wind breaker, because there were some big gusts at times! It was an unforgettable hike. As a tour guide who has been showing Cape Town around for 30 years, he knew the mountain and the right paths like the back of his hand. On the hike, he shared his knowledge of Cape Town, historically, and currently. It was an absolutely pleasure. I booked Patrick for a mountain bike ride a few days later too. 5 starts. 10 out of 10.Written 22 June 2024
- L2863PAkaterinaa0 contributionsLions head sunrise hikePatrick was a fantastic guide, I am not a pro hiker and also nervous of heights and Patrick took that all into consideration and made me feel at ease. A challenging hike but a rewarding one!Written 30 May 2024
- 288callanh0 contributionsAmazing experienceMy partner and I did a morning hike up Platteklip Gorge with Frank and his partner Birgit. The views were incredible and Frank and Birgit provided us with such amazing company! We felt very comfortable in their presence and they were super supportive of any breaks we wanted up the mountain. Very well run tour company and if we are on this side of the world again, we will definitely do it again. Thanks for a great morning :)Written 25 May 2024
- TrailBlazer6136480 contributionsFantastic Mountain Bike Trip Around Table MountainMy husband and I did the half day mountain bike loop around Table Mountain with Patrick, and it was spectacular! Fun, interesting, scenic riding on varied terrain. Patrick was an excellent guide, the bikes were great, and the ride was a highlight of our time in Cape Town. Highly recommend it!Written 21 May 2024
- karolinesofiem0 contributionsFantastic experienceWe had an amazing experience and would defenelty reccomend trying this activity. We had the guide Patrick who was really amazing and gentle. The trip went from the cable station by Table mountain with a beautiful view in the sunraise. The Track varies from jeep Track and smaller trails in the forest. It was really fun and challanging, and Patrick was adjusting the trip based on our level. Thank you so much for a wonderful day Patrick! -Karoline & SindreWritten 29 April 2024
- dottekotonai0 contributionsNo quick cable carThanks to Patrick as an arranger and Andy as my guide, my last day at Cape Town started to sparkle with the sunrise. Firstly, my booking was not suitable for their schedule. However, Patrick sincerely tried to arrange the original booking, and I could receive a go-decision message on the same night. On the booking date, Andy picked me up without delay according to the schedule, at 5AM. Our hike starting before dawn slowly became full of bright with the sunrise and the little bit harder climbing some vertical steps than my expectation. But Andy always took care about my climbing speed and steps. Hence, when we reached the top of the mountain without the cable car, I really felt my decision of the participation to their tour was much great. The tour is my best recommendation for tourists at Cape Town!!Written 17 April 2024
- 863catarinal0 contributionsAmazing experience!I did the Lion's head sunset hike with Patrick and it was an amazing experience! Patrick is very frienfly and always attentive, adjusting the pace or helping you if needed. Conversation flows very easily and you will have the opportunity to learn about the local fauna, flora, and interesting aspects of the city. The view is mesmerizing all the way up to the top and there are no words to describe how beautiful it is to watch the sunset! After the sunset, Patrick provides you with a headlight, so it is a very safe hike. I will definitely recommend this hike with Patrick to my friends!Written 31 March 2024
- andrewpell0 contributionsA must do in Cape Town!I had a great afternoon hike up lions head with Patrick. He was a fantastic guide. Friendly, knowledgeable and easy going. The views from lions head are magnificent! Highly recommend this hike.Written 22 March 2024
- Resort172553505100 contributionsAn epic adventureWhat a great day on the bike! Patrick was great with communications prior to the day, keeping me updated on meet time and weather. Once we started, I knew this was going to be epic. A great adventure that covers a range of different road types. Great views around every corner and Patrick was incredibly knowledgeable!Written 4 March 2024
- H263GZsarahd0 contributionsSunrise hikePatrick is a super guide! He is very patient, attentive to everyone's needs and levels, funny, knows a lot about the mountains, the fauna and flora, and provides good anecdotes and historical and cultural facts. We did the Table Mountain hike (via the Platteklip route), which is a less technical route but still provides stunning views. We came down via the Cable Car after a stop at the restaurant at the top. Thanks to Patrick for being so professional. Highly recommend him ! PS - Bonus point, he can also speak French !Written 23 February 2024
- Heather N0 contributionsAwesome hike!I had such a great time mountain biking with my guide, Patrick, that I signed up to do a morning Table Mountain hike as well. Good to start early (when it’s quieter & cooler) the hike was challenging but still in the realm of my skill set! Patrick knew all the best ways to scramble the more technical areas we came across. He was also very knowledgeable of the area and terrain. Highly recommend this hike for outdoor enthusiasts! Don’t miss out!Written 16 February 2024
