We loved our Hike and Bike experience—it was a great family activity and an unexpected way to see Cape Town. Riding through the city’s busy streets gave us a glimpse beyond the typical scenic spots. The guide shared unique insights and stories that brought the city’s history to life. The mix of urban paths and uphill sections was sometimes challenging but manageable with the frequent rest stops. Overall, it was a memorable and enjoyable part of our trip.

Best thing we’ve done in Cape Town. We had an amazing guide who showed us the most interesting parts of the city that you’d never find on your own. We weren’t rushed and even stopped for the best coffee in town and tried some local delicacies on our way around.

Today we took a tour with our guide Abie. He guided us through the Franschhoek area on excellent mountain bikes. We had 3 beautiful wine tastings and a great lunch at Estate Mont Rochelle. But especially conversations about today's South Africa and the history of this beautiful country made the tour special. We found a day of cycling through the beautiful surroundings with a local to be very valuable.

My husband and I are in Cape Town for our honeymoon and we are SO happy we booked with Matt for our hike. He made the experience incredible and he deserves more than 5 stars! We felt safe and really appreciated encouragement along the way. The views are worth it! If you’re thinking of hiking Lions head—do it and hire Matt!

Matt picked us up at our hotel and guided us up and down the mountain professionally and courteously. He provided snacks and cold water. He explained the flora and fauna, geology and views. The hike was somewhat challenging for a sixtyish couple in fair to middling shape and we were grateful for Matt‘s expert guidance. The upper sections of the hike featured some vertical ladders and handrails and rock climbing, but it was always manageable for us. The reward for the challenge were stunning 360 degree views with Cape Town and the ocean below and Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles across from us. 5 stars.

Wow! Where do I begin?? I would give a sixth star if I could. This is my third time using Bike & Hike across several years and three different trips to South Africa in different seasons. Matt Fletcher, the principal and owner of the firm, is an outstanding human being and goes above and beyond to ensure that either he or one of his highly qualified guides delivers on an exceptional and unique experience. On this particular trip, Matt helped us plan - inspired by a conversation during our last visit with him - a multi-day regional cycling and mountain biking trip deep into the Cederberg Wilderness Region of South Africa. We had the opportunity to explore different areas of this region, including Bushmans Kloof Reserve, Biedouw Valley (perfect in early September for the spring wildflowers), cycling along the Olifants River north of Clanwilliam, and we included an extension into the Northern Cape to visit the Quiver Tree Forest in Nieuwoudtville. This is a special trip with my aging father, bonding over a lifelong love for cycling, that I will never forget — all while forging new experiences with a trusted guide and operator. Matt is an upstanding and very kind individual with great integrity — as are all his exceptional guides. Not only was he highly adaptable and flexible when we needed to pivot and adjust our plans (extending them, actually) only weeks before the trip, but he made great recommendations and presented alternative options each day of the trip for different weather conditions or activity levels. He’s laidback, but his business is top notch. I would highly recommend his tour operating firm Bike & Hike as a fantastic way to explore Cape Town, the Greater Cape Town Region, and the Greater Western Cape Province. Seeing South Africa on foot and on wheels is one of the best ways to experience this beautiful country, and Bike & Hike has so many great options from planned to custom tours for every age, activity level, and recreational preference and pace. We started our first full day in Cape Town with the Cape Town City Cycle private tour. As it pertains to getting the lay of the land in Cape Town, the tour exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Skeezo, was incredibly attentive, positive, and knowledgeable; he taught us much about the history of Cape Town and what life is like for many living in South Africa. Perfect weather was a bonus. What a great way to kick off our week-long adventure in Cape Town!

We enjoyed the tour with Matt. Great ride around the city. He was very knowledgeable, patient and professional. We appreciate learning a lot about the heritage, culture and best sights on Cape Town city centre.

We loved our guided tour of the main attractions of Cape Town with Skeeso (so sorry if the spelling of your name is incorrect) who was so friendly and personable. We hired the E bikes which were very easy to use but to be honest we could have just had normal bikes and it’s relatively flat for the majority of the tour. Skeeso had some great information about the different sites of Cape Town without overloading us with too much history. It was a great start to our honeymoon and we would highly recommend it to anyone at the start of their trip who wants to get their bearings regarding the city.

Abie’s enthusiasm was infectious and his expertise was reassuring as he treated us to a car-less thrill ride along Chapman Peak. First time on e-bikes was fun but would love to go for a long ride on road bikes with him next time. Having him along during an earlier Langa Township tour was an added benefit.

Abie was a fantastic guide on our half day tour. He gave us a long ride as we were really into the biking. We learned so much from him about the history of the area. We enjoyed the wines at Mont Rochelle and La Bri. It’s a great way to explore the area.

We had an amazing time cycling the city on E bikes with Abie! We hiked Lions Head Mountain with him on the day of our arrival and loved the views and hearing all about the history, landscape and animals of Cape Town. We then asked if he could take us on a tour of the city the following day and he shared so many wonderful stories and took us to see some great spots and made modifications easily based on our asks. Highly recommend!

A very enjoyable few hours cycling around Cape Town with our extremely knowledgeable guide, Abi. We stopped at all the key landmarks and Abi gave us such a great insight into the culture and history of the city. Highly recommend!
