This tour was worth every penny. We were picked up right on time at our hotel in Buenos Aires and stopped at another hotel just blocks away to pick up another couple from England. The driver was very friendly and spoke English, telling us about many things along the way. It only took about 1 1/2 hour to get there. We had been to San Antonio de Areco about 8 years ago on our own, taking a bus--about a 2 hour drive. We saw most of the town that time, as it is easy to walk around. However, we did not get the full experience and we are so glad we did it this way this time! We had a very nice local guide to go around the town named Veronica. She was wonderful. The very best part was going to Estancia El Ombu, a little outside of the town, to spend hours with the gauchos on this lovely ranch. The weather was perfect and we could have stayed for days! (Actually, they rent rooms and you could stay there.) We enjoyed the horseback ride with the gauchos around the ranch and they had a carriage for anyone who didn't feel comfortable riding a horse. The food they served on the lawn next to the horse corral was outstanding and plentiful with grilled meats of several kinds, grilled veggies, salad, fruit and dessert! They played music and danced and we enjoyed every part of it! There were only about 20 or so people there, so it seemed like you had a private experience. A real authentic experience and nice to be far away from the big city and in the beautiful, peaceful countryside.

Had a wonderful time on your with Veronica who taught me so much about the history of San Antonio de Areco. The day was topped off by an over night stay at estancia El Ombú with horse riding and a beautiful meal. Wish I could stay forever!

We chose this company for a private day tour of San Antonio de Areco and lunch at an estancia. Our guide knew exactly where to go and what to see, including where to buy wine, cheese, and salumi. The estancia, El Ombu, is a large ranch which farms cattle, soybeans, and corn. We had the best empanadas and red wine on arrival, and then, after a horseback or carriage ride, an asado lunch. The lunch consisted of mountains of grilled beef, chicken, and sausages plus various salads, all delicious. The highlights were: a song performance by Oscar Pereyra, a well-known gaucho singer now in his 80s, and a demonstration of what we would call "horse whispering," where a gaucho demonstrates development of a trusting horse through gentleness. If you can't stay at an estancia in Argentina, at least take a day trip!

We had an extra day in Buenos Aires, so decided to see some of the countryside instead of the usual city spots. Our tour to San Antonio de Areco was great! We had a visit to the small town to start and then a visit to a nearby estancia. The gaucho demonstration was fascinating, the horse ride was fun, the asado meal was great, and the horse-riding skills of the gauchos was impressive. Highly recommended.

It was my best part of my Argentinian trip, all was perfect. The visit of San Antonio was very interesting and professional. Thanks Sarah !
And the stay at this Estancia was unforgettable. All was excellent : the kindness of Diego and his staff, the historical building, the horse ridding, the meal, the nature, and so on. I highly recommend this visit!
Thanks so much for everything !

Our day trip to San Antonio de Areco was a wonderful way to get to know the gaucho culture. Our tour guide Manuel was very knowledgeable, personable and funny. It was great to get to know the town centre first before visiting the estancia. I particularly enjoyed horse riding on the property, and we were very impressed with the amount and quality of food provided at lunch - they didn't skimp on anything, including alcohol. Sure, visiting an estancia in this manner is a very touristy thing to do, but the whole experience still felt authentic and had a wonderful family atmosphere.

On the last day of our holidays in Argentina we wanted to visit an estancia and experience the gaucho life. I checked several providers and decided for Areco Tradicion because it seemed to be the least touristic of all. And so it was!
The three of us were fetched at 8:30 a.m. at our hotel in Buenos Aires and brought to San Antonio de Areco where we met our Englisch speaking guide. We got a private tour through San Antonio where we visited the church, a silversmith and the Museo Güiraldes. Then we where brought to the Estancia El Ombú where we were shown the buildings and were offered wine and self-made empanadas. Then we were sat on horses and rode around the farmland. We were all absolute beginners in riding but this was no problem. When we returned it was time for the asado in the shadow of the giant ombu bush. We had lots of varieties of meat from chicken to pork to beef - all of it was very good quality. Then some traditional folk songs were sung and we were shown traditional dances where we finally had to participate which was quite funny. In the end we saw a very intimate performance of a goucho taming his horse. At about 4-4:30 p.m. we were brought back to our hotel in B.A.
Most of the time in San Antonio our guide stayed with us and we could ask her everything we wanted which we of course did. It was a lovely last day for us in the pampa and in Argentina.

We truly enjoyed our Areco Tradicion day tour! We were looking for a tour that would allow us to experience the traditional Argentine gaucho life. Making arrangements was very easy. We were picked up at our location by private car and enjoyed a pleasant ride. We met our tour guide who spoke both English and Spanish. She allowed us to spend as much or as little time at each tour location as we wanted. My husband is visually impaired and our guide took extra care to allow him to touch items in the museum and explore the sites at his own pace. We ended our tour at the Estancia El Ombú de Areco. It was absolutely wonderful! We experienced a carriage ride, a wonderful lunch, music, and the skill of the horse whisper. Afterwards, we were driven back to Buenos Aires by private car. Our only regret is that we didn't do the 2 day instead!

We were very lucky to be able to time our day trip to San Antonio de Areco with the annual festival and it really was a fascinating glimpse into the gaucho world. Seeing the parade of gauchos on their horses and then seeing the display of their skills was a really memorable experience and one of the highlights of our trip to Argentina.
Bertrand and our guide Marine (who spoke very good English) treated us to a great day and I would definitely recommend using Areco Tradicion if you decide to visit this area. I couldn't comment on what the day trip would be like on a 'non festival' day but San Antonio is a lovely town and a good way to get a feel for the country outside Buenos Aires.

AreconTradition is a travel agency which organizes for you different type of stay in the small and very cute town of San Antonio de Areco. Areco Tradicion will take care f your stay and make sure that you enjoy yourself, wether you want to stay at a gorgeous traditional Argentinian 'Estancia' , (=ranch), or do a couple of hours of horseback riding in the country side, or just stroll around the city with a guide telling you all about the history of San Antonio de Areco, this agency is perfect. I came several time to San Antonio de Areco, and every time I was picked up from the bus station by one of the owners of the travel agency: Bertrand, a french man who moved to Argentina 10 years ago. He is very friendly and ill gladly tell you all about his passion for this city and 'how the quality of life is sooooo much better here than n Buenos Aires :) If you want to enjoy a nice week nd or more away from the city, and dscover the pure tradition of Argentina, well Areco Tradicion will help you with that.
