Highlights
Travel further into the Los Glaciares National Park on a boat cruise
Close-up views and photo ops of the glaciers from the water
Comfortable heated catamaran helps you keep warm
Hassle-free pickup and drop-off at your El Calafate hotel
What to expect
Your tour begins with pickup from your El Calafate accommodation where you board a heated vehicle destined for Punta Bandera Port. Following your drive to the port, board a modern catamaran. Begin your journey on the northern arm of Lago Argentino across Boca del Diablo (Devil’s Mouth), the narrowest part of the lake, and have your cameras at the ready for when the Spegazzini and Upsala Glaciers come into focus. The catamaran circles the glaciers at a safe distance to allow all passengers to capture excellent photographs of the largest (Upsala) and tallest (Spegazzini) glaciers in South America. Following your navigation in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, return to Punta Bandera Port and relax during the transfer back to your El Calafate accommodation.

Boat trip Upsala and Spegazzini Canal from El Calafate
Feb 2020
Once we have arrived at the terminal of the Solo Patagonia shipping company, there is a lot of activity and dense crowds of people are packed together. First we have to exchange our purchased voucher for boat tickets and afterwards we have to sit down again to pay the entrance to Los Glaciares National Park (800 Argentine Peso per person).

At the stroke of 9:00 am the chock-full boat leaves under a bright blue sky for a magnificent trip on the clear and ice-cold water of Lago Argentino. Once we reach full speed, a strong fresh wind can be felt and only the die-hard fans with their thick coat (us!) Remain on deck.

We sail along beautiful rugged landscapes with snowy mountain peaks. We can really look at this for hours! After a while we reach a part of the lake where there are huge ice floes that broke off the Upsala glacier. Most blocks of the Upsala glacier have a typical blue color that glows even brighter in the sunlight. We stop for a while at different ice blocks so that everyone has enough opportunity to take the ultimate photo.

Then we continue the trip from the Upsala glacier to the impressive Spegazzini glacier where we also get enough time to shoot the necessary fabulous pictures. When we start the return trip to Punta Bandera and take a last look at the Spegazzini glacier from the aft deck, we just see a large ice block breaking off the Spegazzini glacier and splashing into the water. What a wonderful end to this wonderful boat trip to the Upsala and Spegazzini glacier.

Stunning scenery
Oct 2019 • Solo
This was a great day tour looking at icebergs and glaciers. I was picked up from my hotel on time and taken by coach to the port. The guide on the coach was informative and gave instructions of what to do and where to go. Upon arriving on the boat the first instructions were given by the professional photographers. This was all in Spanish so I did not understand. One of the photographers did say she would come and explain later to the English speakers but she never did. The guide on the boat spoke in both Spanish and English so I could understand the tour and she gave some really good information about the local area as well as the glaciers and icebergs. It was just a shame that I missed out on one of the professional photos as I was not sure of what was going on and then they also got very busy. The tour itself and the scenery was fantastic!! You can’t help but be mesmerised by it and this tour was a great way to see it.

Terrific Scenery
Our pick was 30 mins later than said, resulting in lousy seats on the boat. Be that as it may, the scenery was awesome. The pilot gave us lots of time to get photos of ice bergs and 1 of the glaciers. The other glaciers were seen from afar. The downside, was a lot of people on the boat all fighting for limited space to get photos.

Birds eye view of the 3 main glaciers
Feb 2019
We opted to take the Gourmet Glacier tour with PatagoniaChic. What an awesome experience. All to be enjoyed from the luxury catamaran. We were picked up at our hotel accommodation and taken to the dock about a half hour out of town. From here we boarded and spent from 8.30am to 4.30pm cruising Lago Argentina viewing the 3 main glaciers, Upsala, Spegazzine and Perito Moreno. During the day you could venture out on to the spacious decks to take photos and view the sights. However views from the warm cabin were just as good. We found this good value for money. However always remember the national park fee of 700ARS isn't included.
