What to expect
  • After pick up at your hotel, we will take the mythical Route 40 bordering the Argentino Lake, and crossing the Santa Cruz River. Before reaching El Chalten town we stop at the viewpoint of Viedma Glacier from where you can appreciate a beautiful view of the glacier, Cordillera and emblematic Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. We will arrive to the mountain village of El Chalten after 3 hours of travel and 220 kms. After the Park Ranger welcome us, we will continue to where we can star the self-guided hiking trails that run from El Chalten and that lead us to the most wonderful viewpoints of the Cerro Fitz Roy or Cerro Torre. Our trekking guide will advise us about the various options according to our physical state and he will deliver maps of the enabled trails. For lunch, we will carry a box lunch in our backpack so we can enjoy it in the middle of the road, also, depending on the climatic conditions, we can have lunch in a restaurant near the area. Between 3 pm and 6 pm, depending on the season of the year, we will meet the guide to start the return to El Calafate.

I have to start saying we didn't have the right shoes, still finished first from our group. We also ran out of water in the way up (take plenty of water and energy snacks) the walking is challenging but you can pase yourself. One of our tour guides had an accident and we had to slow down more.

One thing I didn't like is other guides, they are very PUSHY. On the last 30 min uphill was all snow and due to the wrong shoes we were very slow, but the other guides were pushing us to go faster and we were close of falling many times. Overall very nice...

Dear traveler, We are truly sorry if the tour didn't meet your expectations. El Chaltén is part of Los Glaciares National Park and is the entrance door to unique hiking trails, as you can admire both mountains and glaciers. The day tour we offer is for the ones who don’t have a lot of time as El Chaltén is located 3 hours away from El Calafate. To really appreciate the place, we would have recommended you to stay minimum 2 days. Thank you for your review, it always helps us to improve our services. Best regards,

We booked this through Tangol
Tours and we are glad we did. Before the trip they answered all our questions promptly. The tour was perfectly planned and the bus was extremely comfortable. They picked us up right on time at our hotel. The best part though was Anna our guide for both this trip and another day to the glacier. She was informative and filled with great recommendations on how to plan our time away from the bus.
We took the long hike at El Chalten including the loop -
Picture perfect view and a magnificent hike -
We even had time for a craft beer in town afterwards .

We really enjoyed this tour even though we did the 5 mile hike and there were clouds in front of Mount Fitz Roy.
Juan's English was excellent and he shared so much history that the long ride went very fast. Pick up at our Hostel was also a plus.

This was a complete disaster. What we had been promised and what was advertised was a 6 hour round trip to El Chalten starting at 7:00 am and returning at 10 pm. What we got was a leave for the destination at approximately 10 am and returned at 7 pm. We expected to have about 6 hours of hiking based upon their description. What we got was about 1.5 hours of hiking with no choice of trails. So you spend 6 hours driving to get 1.5 hours of hiking. The drive is mostly through desert similar to Eastern Washington, New Mexico or Eastern California. We were then told all the trails were closed and you could only have two extremely short hikes. The guide Juan was nice and informative, but this was basically a waste of one day of our 10 day visit to Argentina. If they had said 1. the trip will be much shorter 2. the trails are limited 3. You have no choice of trails 4. the hiking will be 1.5 hours rather than 6 hours 5. You can't go on any of the park trails, we would NOT have booked this trip. Why didn't they tell us this rather than lie about the trip?

Dear Traveler, We are truly sorry to hear that you did not enjoy this experience. We're very sorry for the misunderstanding when we booked the tour. The distances between El Chalten and El Calafate are about 7 hours aprox, round trip. In the winter season some trails are closed for safety reasons. On the other hand, as it is a day tour, it is not possible to go on more demanding trails as they require a minimum 8-hour of trekking. For this reason, we must adjust to the trails that allow access according to the established times and seasons. We offer other alternatives, from our sales platforms, which includes the accommodation in El Chalten; so you can explore more trails. Thank you for your review, it always helps us to improve our services. Best regards, Tangol Travel Agency
