- malloryw2330 contributionsStunning Meteora Tour!My son and I were recently part of a two day (one night stay) tour with Meteora Thrones and we had a fabulous experience! The bus ride was comfortable though understandably long (4 and 1/2 hours) which is why we opted to spend the night in the pretty village of Kalambaka. We went on the sunset tour on the day we arrived and a hiking tour the next morning. Our guide for the sunset tour was Maria who was both very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area and the monasteries. The following morning, Giannis guided out mildly challenging hike through the oak forest and rock outcroppings of the area. We saw the monasteries from a distance, the incredible geological features and even went into a hermit cave. Giannis explained details about the area and its history with authority. The only con I have of the trip is that our hotel's wifi service did not work. But that aside, I highly recommend Meteora Thrones Tours!Written 23 March 2025
- 742sinik0 contributionsExcellent excursion to Meteora monasteriesThank you for the amazing excursion. Very interesting information. It was interesting to find out about the story of documentary project about the holy trinity monastery, that turned out the be a James Bond -film. 🩷 Very pleased 🩷 And Kalampaka is a lovely village. Springtime is the excellent time to visit Meteora. Not too crowded place. Excellent food 🩷😋Written 22 March 2025
- 77angelikaj0 contributionsFantastic 😁Fantastic organisation, lots of stops for the photo shoot, interesting story. Beautiful, peaceful place with it's unique character and unforgettable magical feeling.Written 21 March 2025
- Mahbub_Hossain0 contributionsShould reduce the hoursWhile seeing all 6 monasteries is OK, it is unnecessary to visit 3. The experience would still be memorable by visiting only 2 while reducing the total duration. Coming late at night also affects next day's plan for the tourists as they struggle to squeeze as many as programs as possible within short stay in Athens.Written 21 March 2025
- Relax237102383880 contributionsexperience!great!!!i loved it !surely i recommend it, our tour was very well organised and our tour guide maria very kind and nice, go for it alkisti -menelaosWritten 20 March 2025
- janetrJ9254PN0 contributionsThe highlight of our Greece vacationWe did the one day trip from Athens the day after completing a 10 day Best of Greece cruise. We saw many amazing locations and sights on our cruise, but I think Meteora was our trip highlight! Clement, our guide (as well as our driver) was just outstanding and this trip is not to be missed. Well worth the long ride each way (but we want to do a longer overnight trip in future). Even on a cold and partly rainy day, we saw so much and it was stunning.Written 19 March 2025
- lizyureesimon0 contributionsBe prepared to have a terribly hot trip there and backThe bus from meteora to Athens was so hot everyone was profusely sweating. I usually tend to be cold so this was exceptionally warm. The driver was asked to turn on the AC but he didn’t. He was the same driver that took us from Athens to meterora. He was unfriendly and annoyed with everyone. Very uncomfortable 4 hours each way.Written 19 March 2025
- Lozoyanmatal0 contributionsMeteora tour is a must to do when in GreeceThis was an amazing tour a long journey tour but worth to do a must do when in greece our guide Maria was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic a well organised tour with a good bus driver and a punctual programWritten 19 March 2025

- SubhasishM220 contributionsWonderful people with nice ItineraryIt was nice to visit Meteora with these guys. All of them were very knowledgeable and nice persons. I must mention Dinos, our driver for both the days, wonderful person, I even lost my sunglasses and he came back to return it. Our tour guides were Maria and Ioanas, both of them were very friendly and well informative about the history, mythology and geology, which made our tour much more interesting. I really recommend them and would like to come back as the place itself is mesmerising with nature and history. Thank you Meteora Thrones. Thank you very much Dinos, Maria and Ioanas (pardon me if I misspelled any of your name 😉) to make the trip memorable 😊Written 17 March 2025
- Sherpa414724014140 contributionsExceptional placeThe day trip to Meteora by Meteora Thrones was amazing....the view of the monasteries and the mountains were stunning! The tour started and ended on time with adequate restroom breaks. Our English-speaking tour guide Maria was extremely knowledgeable about the place, its historical and geographical information and the different monasteries. We had numerous photo-stops on the way. Our driver Psycas was an excellent driver. We visited 3 of the monasteries from inside as was promised and all 6 monasteries from outside. Thank youWritten 17 March 2025
- 949sangitak0 contributionsGreat experience, well organised tourThe monasteries of meteora are a must see! Did a day tour from thessaloniki. Initially had planned to take the train but due to disruptions in service, alternative options were provided by the company who were swift and responsive in making the arrangements. Many thanks to Chris for the smooth drive over and return, pointing out scenery along the way. The tour itself was well conducted. Maria was also a bubbly and enthusiastic guide. Had a great time! Highly recommended.Written 9 March 2025

The English speaking tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history, very helpful with taking pictures and eager to answer all questions. First things first: Meteora is absolutely stunning any way you look at it, and you can't really go wrong. But while any bus or car can take you to vantage points to spot the monasteries, there's nothing like a good old-fashioned hike through forest trails across streams, rocks, and trees. There's no instant gratification here, but as you slowly gain altitude, the sheer brilliance of Meteora slowly reveals itself, a far more rewarding experience than simply taking a bus.
A guide can make or break your trek, and Christos was the best hiking buddy we could get. A local from the area, he knows the Meteora trails like the back of his hand, and is very well-versed with the history of the place too. While many people huff and puff up the hills, he strolls across like he's going to the supermarket, with plenty of breath left to narrate histories and perspectives of the Meteora monasteries.
While the buses focus on the monasteries and rocks, the hike gives you the opportunity to see another side of Meteora, the green, lush side.
If you're reasonably fit and want to go to Meteora, do the hike. You won't regret it.

Best guide ever, Maria welcomed us with a smile.
In the morning the trip from Athens was long but the driver was nice enough to advise the WiFi password and entertained us with radio music. Arriving to restaurant for lunch, Maria was there to welcome and greet us. The trip was fabolous and very informative. However, back to where the trip began, disappointingly we had to change buses and driver did not say a word instead spend some time on the phone which was unprofessional as outside was very windy and bus was full. Luckily the WiFi password was the same to connect. Maria, you are the best!!!

My (teenage) daughters and I did the Hiking Meteora Tour in the morning/ early afternoon and the Sunset Tour in the late afternoon/evening. Both guides were VERY knowledgeable and made sure that everyone in our group (the hiking tour included younger children than mine as well) was entertained. During the hiking tour, we learned loads about the geology of Meteora, mythology, history and botanics. During the Sunset Tour, we took a shuttle to many gorgeous places I would not have found on my own (for example, the Byzantine Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in the town of Kalambaka - it is absolutely STUNNING). Both tours were extremely interesting and I can highly recommend them for all age groups. We were picked up from our hotel on time and got dropped off in front of our hotel again after the tours. Communication with Meteora Thrones was very smooth and I would definitely book with them again if I come to the area! Thank you to the team for a wonderful time in one of the most amazing spots on earth!!

I loved this tour. We visited the inside of one monastery and hiked past the others and to some ruins of monasteries. The guide, I believe his name was Christos, was excellent. He had very interesting and informative stories, and he had a lot of knowledge to share. It was a beautiful hike and a lot of fun. I highly recommend this hiking tour with Christos.

We were 2 families, 4 adults and 4 kids (aged 13 to 18), and we joined a group coming from Athens by train.
The tour is calibrated to let you see all 6 monasteries but only 3 with a visit inside. The monasteries are visited independently with an adequate time limit dictated by the tour. During the journey, the guide explains the origins of the monasteries and their history. Guide in English but very understandable even by our kids.

What can I say about Clement and Niko? No words would be enough to describe the wonderful time we had yesterday visiting the wonder that is Meteora! Clement’s vast knowledge of the history of the area, as well as the monasteries, was second only to his friendly energy and contagious enthusiasm! Two thumbs up, high five and ten out of ten is my grade for Clement! An amazing tour guide! Some recommendations for participants: wear comfortable shoes, ladies don’t forget to wear a long skirt/dress and have something to cover your shoulders, if you’re wearing something sleeveless. Otherwise, the nuns or someone at the monastery will give you a cover up. This is an excursion well worth the long drive and I would definitely do it again!

Having Dimitri for our guide!!!! We’d had him on a sunset tour so we knew he liked being a guide by the excellent job he did. How thoroughly he knows his history and other interesting facts. Wish school students could learn their lessons from him. Great to be part of what you’re hearing about

We inquired about a hike and a Rock Climbing tour around 9pm at the office to be done the next morning. That was a real short notice for them but they did it! Vasso Bellos was so helpful to assist us. She and the other 2 men at the office texted the tour guides and connected us with a professional climber and hiker who took my daughter and me the next day to a wonderful hike and a climbing route, even though it was a national holiday and almost every Greek was at home with their family that day!
Thank you Vasso and office staff! You helped us achieve our goal and in a short notice made it possible!

The driver and guide were friendly, knowledgeable and genuine during our small, private tour. They seamlessly adjusted our tour to fit our specific interests. They were conversational while sharing historical facts and cultural anecdotes.

We had a lovely day with Chris taking us on a hike up to Great Meteora. There were just 3 of us, and rain was predicted, however, it turned into a lovely and fabulous day. We traced the original walking path of the Monks, learning about the history of the moneltaries and the general history of the area. Along the way, we saw some of the original “caves” the monks lived in as well a smaller monestary that was refurbished and open to the public only one day per year. Chris was extremely well versed in the history, and was extremely careful that we were safe and comfortable during our walk. We took two hours to reach Great Meteora as we stopped for photos, to listen to pertinent information, etc. What a great morning we had, and can’t say enough good things about Chris! Thank you Chris for a walk through nature and time!!!!!

Hi, do you pick up from the Kalambaka train station? I will be taking the train from Athens. If so, what time do you pick up and where?
Written 14 March 2022
How long is the drive from centre of kalambaka to the start of the hike?
Written 18 March 2019
Drive was about 15-20 mins. We stopped at a few locations to pickup others. We checked out the Varlaam monastery before we started our hike

Hi Me and my husband visiting Meteora on 8th September. Taking train from Athens will reach around 13:00. Any suggested tours for us?
Written 9 August 2018
Hi, I will be visiting Meteora for a day with family in mid-July (arriving previous evening and leaving next day at 5 pm). My daughter is 9 years old. The hiking tour seems attractive, since it gives access to a monastery not seen on the driving tour. Would this be suitable for a 9 year old? And do you provide water on the trip or are we expected to carry our own water? Also, in mid-July, is it very hot to hike there or will we be hiking in the shade/ cool?
Thank you for your answers so I can make the right decision on this tour. All things being suitable, I am inclined to book this tour.
