Itinerary

Day 1: Hotel to Machame Camp

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
On this first day you will be picked up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha and drive to Machame village with our destination being the KINAPA machame gate. Here we will get our registration done, get our permit and do all the final touches before beginning our hike.

One of the most popular routes also known the whiskey route, is scenic and moderately hard. We start from the gate at 1,811m (5,942ft) and hike all the way to Machame Camp at the elevation of 3,021m (9,911ft) and gaining a total of 6.75miles (10.75km) and elevation gain of 1,210m (3,970ft). This first day hike is a long and sweaty one but relatively fun being in the montane forest. Lunch box will be provided and we will stop half way along the way for a picnic and eat and hydrate. It is essential to hydrate throughout the day especially on this first day.

Day 2: Machame Camp 3,021m (9,911ft) to Shira Cave 3,839m (12,595 ft)

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
After breakfast we will break camp and leave for Shira Cave camp. A total distace of 3.25 miles (5.3km) with a few steep hills and rocky sections made for scrambling. You will be afforded with some nice views of the Shira plateau, machame huts, town of Moshi and other scenic spots along this hike. On arriving at Shira Cave we will rest and enjoy the rest of the day and evening.

Day 3: Shira Caves 3,839m (12,595 ft) to Barranco huts 3,986m (13,077ft)

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
With a total distance of 6.5 miles (10.3Km) this another long day but we will hike first to Lava Tower at 4,627m (15,180 ft) and 4.5 miles (7.1Km) then after a lunch break here we descend down to Barranco huts a total distance of 2miles (3.2Km) and total elevation gain of just 147m (482ft). This is a good day to acclimatize as we will climb high to Lava Tower and sleep low at Barranco huts. At Barranco we will set camp enjoy the rest of the day and evening.

Day 4: Barranco huts 3,986m (13,077 ft) to Barafu Camp 4,662m (15,295 ft)

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
After breakfast we will break camp and head out for Barafu base camp. Today`s highlight will be the Barranco breakfast wall. It is not technical but requires for a lot of rock climbing as we hike up. At the top you will have a chance to enjoy some nice views before we make our way to the Karanga valley. We will stop at Karanga Camp for a lunch break before heading up for Barafu base camp.

Once we get to Barafu camp we will rest and get ready for our midnight summit push.

Day 5: Barafu Camp 4,662m to Uhuru Peak 5,895m then down to Mweka Camp 3,106m (10,190 ft)

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
On the first hour of day 5 or midnight we will leave for Uhuru Peak. On this day with our bodies ready and well acclimatized we hike out and go through Kosovo camp, Stella Point and finish with Uhuru Peak. It will feel different and maybe hard with the altitude but we will follow our guided pacing us and taking intermittent breaks along the way. Once we reach Stella Point might be able to catch the sunrise on top of Mawenzi peak. It is an amazing view to watch.

The total distance from Barafu to Uhuru Peak is 3 miles (4.86Km) and gaining about 1,233m (4,045ft) of elevation. From Uhuru Peak we will descend all the way to Barafu Camp rest and have lunch then descend all the way to Mweka huts.

The distance from Uhuru to Mweka huts is roughly 7.25miles (11.5KM) .

Day 6: Mweka Camp 3,106m(10,190 ft) to Mweka Gate 1,633m (5,358 ft)

Stop At: Mount Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro National Park 00255 Tanzania
This is our last day and after breakfast we break camp and descend down to Mweka gate. Our legs are tired but we are excited to finish our hike and head back to our hotels. Once we get to the gate we will collect our certificates and meet our drive ready to take us to the hotel.
