About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- heidimm11230 contributionsSuch a great experience!Cady, our Wavehuggers instructor, was fabulous! My husband and I are true surfing novices. We started with an on-land lesson to familiarize us with the surf board, the body mechanics of getting up on the board, some stretching, and safety tips. Cady was thorough and engaging. In the water, as we had a private lesson, Cady was able to give each of us individual coaching, which was great! We really enjoyed this experience. We highly recommend it and will do it again when we get back to the SD area in the future.Written 2 October 2024
- Michael E0 contributionsSurf lesson success!Karch was cool and informative and was there to support our experience and ensure we had a good time! Mission accomplished!Written 15 July 2023
- thomaseI4673MD0 contributionsFun first try.Beginner’s should go early when the waves are smallest. We had a great time. Aiden was terrific. Good instructor, ask for Aiden! He worked hard to get us up and was easy to be with.Written 23 April 2023
- peymanehr0 contributionsHorribly unworkable owner! We were requesting the refund of 1 child from yesterday since she didn't even get in the water due to threatening waves, even though my other child only surfed for 45 minutes out of the 2 hour lesson. When you would not accommodate a partial refund for our 2 hour lesson (which the life guard even took the kids out of the water 3 times because of the unsafe wave conditions), we then requested a cancelation for this coming Monday, the 12th and full refund of that 2 hour session (which is 6 days advance notice). The owner refused. It's also false advertising to sell a 2-hour lesson when the instructor brought us back in 15 minutes early (eating into our surf lesson time we paid for from 3pm-5pm) in order to have the wetsuits washed down in time for the next lesson which started at 5pm. Very bad form. The surf instructor even said these were not optimal wave conditions and that it wasn't conducive for beginners! There were no other surfers in the water. We surf with a different private instructor in Hermosa beach quite often so it’s not like we don’t know what we are doing. I have never dealt with such an unworkable company! Especially during Covid; who refuses cancelations with 6 day notification anymore?!Written 6 April 2021

- bhulke0 contributionsSurfing Harrison was great!I just had three lessons with Harrison at Hermosa Beach. It was such a good time. Harrison is super patient and really thorough explaining all the ins and outs of surfing. He was really tuned into when I needed a break and when I need a push! I would highly recommend taking lessons with him. Thanks for the amazing time, if only you could make the water a bit warmer...haha!Written 24 April 2019
- Kevin O0 contributionsFun times and learned a bunch from great people!I booked last minute with Wavehuggers. I called the phone number, left a message, and Helena followed up by call and text when she got some time between lessons. I wasn't able to get to the phone when she called back, but she left detailed voice messages and texts, she had listened to my messages and knew my questions and what I was looking for. She recommended El Porto for a beginner private lesson because I wanted to be in Manhattan Beach. She also let me know what their schedule looked like. I booked and paid online, they confirmed by email (make sure you wait for them to confirm) and provided good instructions on where to meet. Harrison was my instructor. He sent me a super detailed text just before the lesson and let me know how to find him.He was really knowledgeable and truly excited about teaching and helping me progress. He explained things well, was really patient, and broke down all the steps into building blocks I could work on during the day. I booked 2 hours and had a great time!Written 7 November 2018
- ThisHonestReviewer0 contributionsJust rightDid private lesson for 10 year old son who surfed a handful of times before. He loved the lesson; his instructor Dale was great with him. Dropped a lot of knowledge. However, for fellow East Coasters, the experience is very SoCal - the address we were told to go to was not a store or surf shop- it was a general meeting place outside a restaurant. The instructor had wetsuits in his car along with a board. Again, all was good and fine - son loved it! It was just a different buying experience. I would do it again.Written 5 September 2018
- Noel J0 contributionsBrian is a great instructor! Ima beginner, retiredBucket list: learn to surf. Being retired: not too late. Brian maintained upbeat and clear instructions, never lost track of what I was trying to learn. He answered all my questions. He arrived early and prepared, was relaxed, happy, competent, and did not wrap up early. He was aware of all safety issues happening in the area. He taught me what to look for. He was nice to the other surfers. He maintained this through a series of lessons. I am still a beginner, but I had never swum in the sea for more than a few minutes, had never surfed. I was not light strong flexible. He stayed encouraging and on track and never gave up on success. I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST. Surfing is my new inspiration.Written 13 July 2018
- Snow W0 contributionsPoor business no show after paymentI purchased surfing lessons through Travelocity for my two boys. I called to confirm our lessons, ensuring the activity would run smoothly. It was our last day of visiting family before we left for home. We went to the address that was provided in the email however the instructor did not show. I called and text the instructors number to make sure I was in the right location and no response. I called the business and left a message. Although I understand situations arise out of our control I was disappointed that this happened. Another company "Learn to Surf" was there as I originally went to thinking it was Wavehuggers and Jason kindly took the time to teach my children and provide a quality lesson that they will never forget. We have shared with family and friends in the area of this ordeal and we will be going to Learn to Surf next time we visit.Written 18 April 2018
- Jodi L0 contributionsHighlight of my trip!!Scheduling was a breeze. Communication was prompt and professional. My instructor, Andrew, was the best. He was punctual, patient and explained everything perfectly. After 30-45 minutes of beach instructions, it was time to dive in (pun intended). I honestly did not have high hopes for me personally getting up on the board but sure enough I did!! 2x!! It was maybe only 10 seconds total but it happened. Then for the cherry on top, Andrew mentioned that he was surprised there weren't any dolphins around since it was their typical feeding time. Not more than 10 minutes later, one popped out of the water for just a moment. My inner teenage girl squealed with pure delight! Mark this off my bucket list - thanks againWritten 17 August 2016
- Stacey G0 contributionsSurfing ✔️We scheduled first time lessons for our teenagers with Wavehuggers and had Jonah as our instructor. He was fabulous! He made the effort to get to know their individual personalities and did a great job of working with them individually to get them both surfing by the end of the lesson. We would definitely recommend them to anyone! Thanks for a memorable vacation!Written 20 April 2016
