Like having a tour guide in the van with us
We enjoyed the tour. It was a good amount of info, nicely paced. It made a beautiful drive better. We also enjoyed the Auburn to Placerville tour.

    Beautiful scenery! Interesting history!
We really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the Gold Rush history provided. We were NOT able to get the audio through my Android phone or Bluetooth. Instead we would stop at various points and read the narrative...still very interesting. Due to the numerous "reading stops" we did not have time to enjoy a wine tasting stop but the wineries looked lovely. We also contacted Gary in South Africa (Tech support) he was very kind and attempted to assist us with the audio but we were not successful! We would try a self guided audio in the future, hopefully, with better luck. The ONLY comment we have is that this would not be a good tour to take children as they would find it boring...as kids tend to do in car rides.

Was a lot of fun learning the History of this new area we moved in.
Learning about all the Historical places as we drove was very enlightening and fun. Then choosing to stop and walk around and imagine what it was like to live during that era, was like time traveling!

    Go for the Gold!
Talk about some history!! We had so much fun taking this scenic and exploratory tour. Learning about the rich history (gold!!) surrounding us in Northern California has been a true treat, and gives us a further appreciation for what got us to this point today. The thorough detail is something to be praised, as it seems this company goes above and beyond with each consecutive tour. To many more!!

Gold Country Backroads tour of the Shenandoah Valley, and the gold rush towns of Fiddletown, Amador City, & Sutter Creek
This was the second part of a 4 part driving tour series my wife and I took over a recent getaway weekend. We are big history buffs but really knew very little about the history of the California Gold Country right in our back yard. The tour guide is obviously very knowledgeable about the area and its history and really brings it all to life. This was a delightful and very interesting tour of some of California's most beautiful back roads. This second leg was a bit different from the others in that it included a nice little trip through the Shenandoah Valley. Think of it as the Napa/Sonoma of the California foothills. It includes a collection of some of the top unknown wineries in Northern California. The wine tasting at some world class wineries was a nice little surprise and a great way to spend the afternoon before getting back to our historic gold country tour. Some highlights included the cute little gold rush towns of Fiddletown, Amador City, and Sutter Creek. If it's open highly recommend a visit to the Kennedy Gold Mine where the history of the gold rush era is on full display.

With just a couple of quibbles, this is the best $12 you can possibly spend on a droving tour. We got a comprehensive view of every aspect of California Gold Country’s small towns, breathtaking views and rich history.

The quibbles:

1. The GPS-driven program requires you to meticulously follow all driving prompts down to the most minute detail. Even the most minor digression (like, failing to stop at the starting point and each transition) keeps the narration from launching.

2. If you inadvertently miss a turn (as we did twice), the program just goes silent with no warning. We had to retrace our steps a couple times and avoided getting catastrophically lost, but the program needs a better educational primer before it launches.

We had a great time. The stories were really cool to listen to. The pace was flexible and we got to stop if and when we wanted. AND we get to keep the audio tour for ever so we can do it again in the future.
For those who are not tech/app savvy it would help to map out the route before you start. But in general is was very user friendly. We did 2 of the tours in one day and it took all day. We recommend one a day to really get into the nooks and cranies.

will be getting more of these tours for sure!

It was fun learning about California history, seeing places I've only heard about and had a less traveled journey home.

This is the third in a series of 4 tours of the California Gold Country that my wife and I took over a recent weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. We are both big history buffs and really enjoyed hearing about some of the more interesting wild west characters from that era. Wonderful chance to explore some of the more picturesque Norther California back roads. Some beautiful natural wonders as well, such as the Black Chasm Caverns and Indian Grinding Rock Historic Park. Kennedy Tailing Wheels showed you just how massive some of these mining projects were. And major shout out to the Jackson Rancheria Casino and the cute little town of Angels' Camp, the home of Twain's Annual Jumping Frog Contest. Some great shops and restaurants.

It started out GREAT!!! But sometime midway, it went silent with no mapping. We didn’t have the slightest idea where we were and had to use Waze to get us back to our motel. I’ll be calling to complain and ask for a refund. I had read in another review by an iPhone user that the same occurred with them. Maybe that’s the problem… If they don’t refund, I’m going to be PISSED!!!

Very informative and interesting. Great way to get an overview of Gold country! Loved the VoiceMap app and how it played the audio at the right time and allowed for optional stops.

I continue to be amazed about the abundant treasures and rich legacy of our area of the state. So. Much. History!!!! It was another fantastically curated tour, and was great to get an insider's perspective on what life was like during those times. I will look forward to trying out more of these tours!
