About
Ojai has a 100-year history of ceramics. Our studio, located a mile from the city center, is surrounded by nature, in the midst of a fruit orchard.
We are the primary working studio for the great artists of the Ojai Valley. Visitors may watch potters work, and may "try their hand" at a range of techniques. After making their pottery, they may come back on another day to trim or glaze it, or they may pay a small fee for one of the potters to trim, glaze and high-fire the work. We will even ship the pieces anywhere in the country...

Away from the hubbub, one can be creative while surrounded by orange groves and horses. Everyone is helpful. There are lovely smaller pieces on display outside for sale. I highly recommend spending a day or more at Firestick Pottery. All levels of potting are welcome.Written 24 January 2019

- eunihess330 contributionsPlaying with ClayFirestick Pottey Studio and Art Gallery is a MUST-SEE for visitors to Ojai who want to experience a joyous and fun time creating their own "masterpieces". As a first-timer, I was encouraged and instructed by Robin Nahin/owner who enthusiastically helped me step-by-step in making a lovely drinking vessel (aka a mug). Facility and staff are so welcoming, it feels like a home environment. Go!!!!Written 19 January 2019

- ksachnoff0 contributionsfun & inspiringI met some fascinating people and enjoyed getting my hands dirty and my creative juices (didn't know I had any!) flowing at this fun, hidden gem a few min. from center of Ojai. Cool vibe, terrific gallery of master potter pieces, and pottery making/baking/glazing options for age 5 to 105, beginner to seasoned artist. Grabbing fresh snacks off of the many fruit trees and seeing the lovely grounds only adds to the joyous atmosphere. They know how to run the place professionally so everything is smooth but are also super friendly. Enjoy!Written 16 January 2019
- littlelena0 contributionsA Great Way To Relax, Be Creative, And Enjoy OhaiFirestick is a pottery studio not far from the center of Ojai. You can take classes or just create one lovely piece of pottery in a few hours, and return later to pick it up after it’s fired. They’ll even mail it to you if you can’t get back there to pick it up. I made an adorable hand built tray after just one lesson! There are interesting pieces of finished pottery and other art work for sale in their studio. What a fun way to be creative in a town known for art and creativity!Written 15 January 2019

We had never done pottery and thought to make it a day to visit Ojai and take a tour and pottery class. We took our boys and the class was fun. The $65 per person fee is a little pricey and you don't get to keep your items unless you pay extra, $15 per item.
The experience would have been much better if the fee included 1 piece you can take home. We ended up paying $80 per person ($320 for 4 people) not including shipping costs yet.
Another suggestion is to have the teachers show us how to make each piece and we would work along with them. Similar to paint with a teacher step by step and you take your art home. Having us create our own pieces when we don’t know pottery was not an effective use of time. The teachers should pick 5 pieces to teach the different techniques. We all make the same 5 pieces along with the teachers. Should there be more experienced participants they can veer off and make the pieces they want.
Don’t have high expectations for the tour, it was less than average. It lasted about 10-15 minutes around the ground which is small. We were expecting a huge pottery school and tour, but that wasn’t it. Nonetheless it was a good walk around.

What an amazing place this is, my wife and I took a beginners pottery class and WOW we had the best time and we were so thankful for our teacher and how professional she was and easy to follow. when we finished left our work there and they fired them, glazed them and shipped them to us all at a very reasonable price. we'll be coming back again and again for sure....

Working on the pottery wheel was filled with laughter and joy. Our instructors helped us to make the best looking pottery possible. They gave lots of hands on help and instruction. I was so surprised at what I actually made!! I made the reservation directly with Firestick. They provided aprons and all the tools necessary to work on the wheel. They even had nail clippers for those of us whose nails were long and got in the way of working with the clay. I opted to have them glaze and fire 4 of the 5 pieces I created. I received them 2 weeks later and I'm very happy with the outcome. I would definitely return for another workshop!!

My sister and I had a wonder trip to Ojai planned and we thought a pottery class would enhance our exposure to the Ojai vibe! It didn’t disappoint! We spent 2 hours with a wonderful instructor, Erin, and really enjoyed our experience. We each made 3 small pieces and got elbow deep in clay on the wheel. Its was fun, tactile, and gave us a great appreciation for talented artists who’ve mastered this art form. I highly recommend this opportunity to do something most people never have the opportunity to try.

We had a great time at Firestick! Really talented staff and awesome to see the advanced work that they have on display and for sale as inspiration before the class. They were very hands on and helpful. Took the class with my six-year old who had a great time and loved learning about the pottery wheel. We used the option for staff to finish the pots and glaze them, and then they were shipped to us. They turned out even better than I expected, and it was like Christmas for my six-year old opening up the package when it arrived. Highly recommend. Thanks!

Outstanding teacher (Aaron) and really fun experience. Highly recommend even for very beginners. Studio tour was fun, especially learning about the whole process. Plenty of opportunity to make multiple pieces.

The ceramics class was great fun and we learned a lot in a couple of hours. The instructors, Taylor and Esteban were really kind and helpful. It certainly stirred our interest in continuing in Ceramics.

There were only two of us in the class so it was much more hands on and detailed than it would be in a full class. The instructor was patient and professional.

Hi there, I see no wheelchairs so I am assuming there are stairs? Lots of stairs or not so many? And no one with back problems and I was wondering if that is because of the bending over the pottery wheel? We won't be carrying heavy items, shall I assume? Thank you!

Do we actually walk away with what we made in that amount of time?

What is the maximum number of people you can handle at once? I am organizing activities for a group in October.
Written 30 August 2019
Hi Catherine... we can accommodate up to 20 people for "hand-building" (sculpting) and up to 10 for "throwing on the wheel." Best to call me directly: 805-272-8760. Thanks! Robin
