About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- A8222QOjasonb0 contributionsThe most easy-going tour ever!I learned a lot about an area that I knew very little about, despite living so close. It was so much fun driving thru the little towns and learning the history. I really like how we were able to go at our own pace and stop whenever we wanted to. I'll definitely check out some of the other tours offered.Written 2 January 2025
- Escape476546614070 contributionsInteresting but difficult to accessWe had a terrible time downloading and starting the program! Very frustrating. The audio was good although some information was out of date.Written 6 October 2024
- pattyr5710 contributionsImpressive technology for tours, but watch the time and research the stops beforehandPros - We live in the Sacramento area and have wanted to explore the delta, but did not know the best way to learn the history and where to go exactly, so this tour fit the bill! - The technology worked great... the narrator and our location via GPS were always in sync. However, the "End Tour" button was a little confusing as the narrator prompted us to press it if stopping to explore. When I pressed it at our first stop a prompt came up asking me to rate the tour, so I worried I had ended it prematurely, but I was able to restart from that point later. A "Pause" button would have been more intuitive, with an "End Tour" button and rating prompt only at the end. Cons - While VoiceMap does provide a disclaimer that they cannot guarantee roads and places will be open, I looked online before we left for distances and route, plus hours of operation of the suggested places to stop. Even so, the wildlife refuge was gated off with a lock and sign. In addition, for Hemly Cider the narrator sent us down a one-mile side road and gravel path presumably to see a tasting area and shop, but we found nothing but work sheds. I later dug into the Hemly website more, which has lots of info about their products, family, etc., and saw that the "Hemly Hangar" (tasting area) is temporarily closed. It would have been nice if the Hemly's had a sign at the side road entrance stating this. - The suggested time for the tour of 2-3 hours was too short. We took 3 1/2 hours w/ minimal stops, waiting for drawbridges to open and close, and of course the detours mentioned above. We started the tour at 2 pm, which was too late in the day. We arrived at Bogle Winery at 5pm, which was lovely, but had just closed. The Grand Island Mansion was also closed, as was the Old Sugar Mill by the time we got there. We will have to see those another time. That said, overall, we enjoyed our day, seeing the delta and hearing about its history.Written 31 August 2024
- gaylehM4650HM0 contributionsSee Old Sacramento on your own time scheduleI had a few hiccups at first with the Voicemap ap. As recommended, I had downloaded the tour prior to the trip. However, the ap prompted me to download it again when I got to the starting point. The download froze twice so my start of the tour was delayed. However, once I got started I really enjoyed the tour. It was similar to a scavenger hunt -- just follow the prompts, walk in the right direction and see the landmarks. I thought it was amazing that all the sights were there just as the narrator pointed out, Admittedly, I got a little lost a couple times but I found it helpful to stop and read the written narrative to get back on track. The tour was very enjoyable and I was able to pause it and check out a couple of the shops along the way. I was reminded about the California history I had learned about in school (and long forgotten) regarding the gold rush and railroad history. I would advise to be sure your phone is fully charged. Voicemap used a lot of battery power on my Android phone. Toward the end of the tour I was afraid my battery was going to die before I finished the tour. All in all I was happy and felt that taking this self-guided tour was a good way to see Old Sacramento on my own schedule.Written 19 August 2024

- jameswconrad650 contributionsStrolling along Old Sacramento's waterfront district while learning the town and it's golden historyMy wife and I have become big fans of this author. The tours around Tahoe were stunning and the various gold country tours were both fun and educational. What we really enjoy is how she has woven the history of all these amazing places in each of her California tours. Old town Sacramento is brought alive through this walking tour. Learning about Sacramento's history and how it fit into the the birth of California and the adventurous gold rush days was a real treat as you stroll along the wooden plank boardwalks and cobble stone roads. A great way to see the restored Old town district and its many museum, shops, and restaurants. Two big thumbs upWritten 14 July 2023
- BTrippinB0 contributionsA wonderful reminder of our beautiful community! We were pleasantly surprised to find another tour available from this company, with the focus on this tour being our own backyard! It was very well planned out and it was great to learn about the history of our community and some fun little factoids and insights. We were especially grateful to have fantastic weather while we explored!Written 2 June 2023
- jameswconrad650 contributionsFun and enjoyable Sacramento Delta Driving Tour Day tripMy wife and I were looking for an interesting day trip idea and came across this driving tour of the delta. All I can say is Wow. We have lived in and around Sacramento for over thirty years and had no idea this amazing gem existed right in our own backyard. Love how the tour had us traveling along the Sacramento river and showed us the quaint little towns (LOVED Locke China Town and Al the "Wops" especially). Really enjoyed hearing about the robust history of the area - especially fun stories about the old riverboats that plied the river. Also got to see several really beautiful vineyards and wine tasting rooms. And the collection of wineries housed in the old Sugar Mill were really quite special. HIGHLY recommend as a great little day trip. Plenty of places to stop and enjoy along the way. Two great big thumbs up for this tour.Written 29 May 2023

- Susan P0 contributionsA Great Day in Historic FolsomThis was our first audio tour of this kind. It was great! Easy to download and get started. It says you need headphones or earbuds, but you can listen to the tour on your device without them. The guide was excellent and the historic tour was very interesting. Lots of opportunities to to visit places along the way- just pause the audio and take your time checking out the shops, cafes and historical places along the way. Be sure to stop by the Pioneer Village. The docents there were so friendly and informative. Folsom is a very quaint town with a rich history to be explored. Enjoy!Written 23 September 2022
