About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Extraordinary6257200 contributionsAmazing!!Such a beautiful trip! It was so beautiful and we had so much fun! The guides were awesome! The actual ride was a little short but that was perfect for us on this trip. I know there’s a longer one and I’ll look into that next time. We will do it again!Written 8 October 2024
- Journey8292260 contributionsFun addition to a coastal getaway with friendsThis was a super fun addition to our recent girls' trip to the coast. It was a short train ride to the coolest bar in the middle of the woods. The servers were as quick as could be, but the lines definitely got long as the later trains arrived. The only bummer was that there was a private event (a wedding) that took up the majority of the fire pit areas. I had literally remarked that it would make a super fun wedding venue when we were pulling up, but the overlap of private/public access was unfortunate. It pushed all of the paying guests to the barn, which was fine (the music was great!) but a bummer to not be able to enjoy spots around the fires/use our s'more kit.Written 7 October 2024
- Vzshopper120 contributionsDisappointedThere was green all around with some redwood trees, however nothing else to look at. When you got to destination was nice other than a hike, jenga games, picnic table, nothing else to do, the food on train at snack bar was extremely expensive, not a lot of options. The train ride was overpriced, can’t imagine taking a whole family. It was like $5.50 a small hand size bag of popcorn, should’ve been free for riding. I was disappointed I could’ve spend time & money on something else in town.Written 7 October 2024
- PamelaV1260 contributionsBest Time EverThe train ride, the venue, the music and all the people was the best experience! I will be back next year! The Best Time from start to finishWritten 5 October 2024

- Susan T0 contributionsA “Must Do”!!!!The trip was a blast!! 7 mile round trip on electric assisted rail bikes makes this ride fun and easy!! Johnny and Bruce were great chaperones on our ride, giving us a lot of info regarding the trees, the rail line and history the of the area. I would highly recommend this as a half day adventure for all ages!!!Written 3 October 2024
- jerrycZ3654EK0 contributionsSkunkedNot worth the cost for a 2&1/2 mile train ride. 45 min stop then back to Station! Did do a 1/2 mile walk through a few redwoods. Definitely not worth the Time or Money!Written 3 October 2024

- C6379AHpeggyr0 contributionsRail Bikes are a must do activity! This was a really fun excursion! The scenery was beautiful and the rail bikes were easy to operate. Our rail bike guides Johnny and Jake kept our safety as a priority while also being entertaining and treating us to their great sense of humor. They also provided historical facts about the area along our journey. I would recommend the rail bikes for anyone who likes a fun adventure!Written 30 September 2024
- girlslovesportstoo0 contributionsFort BraggFun experience while my husband and i were in Fort Bragg for the weekend. Train ride was about 20 minutes each way, there was plenty of room and areas to sit. Beautiful scenery and loved all the redwood trees at Glen Blair Junction, I only wish there would have been more hiking trails.Written 26 September 2024
- shannoncO3089ZN0 contributionsSkunk trainWe found a coupon online and saved $10. The workers are so friendly and you can tell they love their job. I purchased some t shirts on sale 30%. off. Honestly the train ride was simple and quick. When it arrives at the Blair Bar there's a beautiful open area for games corn hole and connect four and a short loop hike. The hike was 1/2 a mile but says .9 its pretty simple but a few inclines some people struggled and got sweaty. Bring food or snacks because there was food for sale on train in one of the front cars. Overall it was an experience I probably wouldn't do it again, but I was happy to try it. After we returned our hotel recommended if you do this train go from Willits instead of Fort Bragg. Since the tunnel collapsed the Fort Bragg train is short and quick. The brochure said we would go through a tunnel, but one person said the tunnel collapsed years ago and they don't do that.Written 24 September 2024
- F3577JTjackiep0 contributionsGreat Ft. Bragg afternoonBeautiful weather! The trip was just right as far as standing in the open area (by choice). History lesson was very interesting.Written 23 September 2024
- biesemrh0 contributionsFun ride to an awesome bar! This was such a fun train trip to a really cool outdoor bar! It was a long enough train ride (20-30 minutes one-way) that we were able to enjoy it. The bar area was fabulous! Beautiful surroundings, loved the live music and the option of cocktails, wine, and beer were great! It looks just like the pictures online with all the lights and plenty of chairs. We chose to take our drinks on the .9 mile trail through the woods. We rode back in the open-air car and it was super-fun! What a great experience!Written 19 September 2024
- Daydream413474115890 contributionsBirthday rail cycling in the RedwoodsMy wife organized our Skunk Train rail cycle trip on the Noyo as a birthday excursion. In summary, it was fantastic. The tour guides were friendly and informative while still giving cyclers their space to enjoy the experience. We really liked the participatory aspect and the cycles worked flawlessly. The coastal redwoods forest setting is stunning and the picnic lunch was ample and tasty. I would enthusiastically recommend this activity for any couple, group or solo explorer.Written 16 September 2024

We were camping on the coast and decided to drive to Willits to catch The Skunk Train. The train ride was fun. The conductor gave us some history stories about the train and area. The train goes through the redwood forest and stops at a whistle stop at Crowley for a short look around. Beautiful scenery. I only gave three stars because the price is kinda high for the trip ($50) and the conductor should have had some more stories to tell.

This was a nice experience, but overpriced ($200-$250 for 2 persons) for a 20 minute ride, one way—20 minutes back. You could only go that far because of the tunnel collapse. Then you get off, they turn the bikes around and you return back on the same track. No snacks included. I agree with some of the other reviewers, that the price should be more like $150. It is however, well run and enjoyable while it lasted. It will be nice when they reconstruct the tunnel, so that the train can again go to Willits and you can actually enjoy a more scenic ride. Just for comparison, the rail bikes near Reno (Carson Canyon Railbikes) are only $45 per person in a 4-person bike and you get a 70-90 minute ride—with snacks.

It was a nice relaxing train trip. Especially we loved the part where the train went through a tunnel. However, in case you don’t have a kid, it might feel a bit overpriced. The woods through which the train took us to “Crowley” is not super dense or anything spectacular for that matter. There are just a couple of redwood trees you will get to see. I felt that the road we took from Fort Brag to reach Willits was more scenic than the path that the train took. Nevertheless, it was a nice and relaxing experience. I’d probably not do it twice but its definitely a good one time thing.

Willits is a quaint little town on the edge of the Redwoods, in Northern California. The Skunk Train is a wonderful reason to visit. We took the Wolf Tree Turn loop, and it was a wonderful, relaxing, family experience. You can sit in an old train car, or stand in the open-air car. On board, they have a small snack bar, and a restroom. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The Conductor is all about the kids! When I first saw him at the terminal, he was blowing soap bubbles for them. I'm a little north of 'kids,' but I thoroughly enjoyed this man! On the train, he literally switched hats, from Conductor to Train Singer. He played and sang old train songs on his guitar and harmonica. He is very good.
Over all, it was a very relaxing, enjoyable, beautiful trip through the Redwoods.

The train ride was very laid back and relaxing. We visited on a day with beautiful weather. The landscape along the ride was very picturesque. Our guide gave a very interesting narration of the train’s historic use and the surrounding area. Popcorn was great and it comes with free refills. Train was very clean. The staff was friendly. I’d highly recommend this train ride.

We received a gift certificate for Christmas in 2019 and we were finally able to use it in 2022! It is totally worth the wait and the drive out to Fort Bragg. The whole experience was pretty amazing but I have to say that my favorite was riding through the Redwoods in the open-air car. The whole trip is a little over an hour but what an hour! The vintage trains are beautiful inside and they offer food and beverages during the ride. They also offer adult beverages and have special cocktails for the day. All the employees are super helpful. We were travelling with my autistic son and they were super nice, accomadating and patient. There are accessibility ramps available for wheelchair access to the train. Don't forget to visit the model train museum after you are done and the great gift shop too! This was one stop on a long road trip and when we all recounted the trip we all picked the Skunk Train as our #1 experience. Would recommend 100%!

VERY DISAPPOINTED, Website is deceiving, nowhere does it mention that the train tunnel is collapsed and that the train can't continue on the "experience" they advertise, way over priced for a quick 30 minute ride. Don't recommend wasting your money. We drove over 10 hours and paid good money for this disappointment.

The entire trip was enjoyable! If you love nature this trip is full of scenery and has a rich historical background narrated by the train's conductor. The overall trip is 16 miles and the price at first may seem a little steep, but once you experience it you will feel that the money ($59 per adult) is well worth it. The part that surprised us the most was the short layover in Crowley. Someone really put some thought into the overall experience and set-up a lot of fun activities for the kids. There are also food and drinks available along with an open car and entertainment so younger children don't get bored.

I am scoring this as average due to the cost. I think that they are trying to make up financial losses from 2020 by gouging the fees for the railbike experience. For what the trip entails it seems like an exorbitant amount of money. Yes I realize that I paid the fee so why complain.... but it was really a fun experience and I think it is unfortunate that it is priced so high so that it limits who would participate. The guide was great ‘Johnny’ and even provided a recommendation for a vegan restaurant (which was superb- Ravens). However, back to my point of the cost- really Skunk train?? Why so costly?

I love train rides and this one really delivers! The history of the train is great and it is nicely restored. This is an "out and back" ride with a stop half way. We took the early train and stayed at the half way point, hiked around a bit, and enjoyed a picnic lunch that we packed ahead of time and brought with us, then took the later train back to the station. My wife also enjoyed the train as well as shopping at the Skunk Store!

We are planning to go to Willits and the Skunk Train on May 9 - 13, 2022. One site said tickets are available but the one from Willits says not until August. Is the Skunk Train out of Willits running in May

Do they provide beverages (non or alcoholic)/snacks and if not are they allowed to bring onto the train?
