- Jeckr660 contributionsWow! What an excellent day!!!Wow!!! What a day with Sliprock Charters and Captain Phil! We (my daughter and I) booked an 8 hour charter. Besides Capt. Phil just being a hardworking, knowledgeable, and fun guy to be around... it was such a great day chasing multiple species of fish. We started the day chasing Tarpon. We had 2 tarpon hookups but couldn't seal the deal. I fought one that jumped 7 or 8 times but broke me off in the end. What a rush!!! Then my daughter had a shark break her off at the back of the boat. We moved spots and caught a 4.5 foot Black Tip Shark! What a battle! We also caught our limit on Mangrove Snappers and caught some Red Fish to finish out the day. Besides all the fish we caught, we saw alot of the wildlife that Florida has to offer while out fishing today. We saw a manatee, sea turtles, so many dolphins, a 7-8 foot hammerhead shark that swam right under the back corner of the boat. Also, the dolphins ate a couple of the fish that we released! Captain Phil is great! He made the trip extremely enjoyable and it was the highlight of our trip. He’s extremely personable; my kids even asked me afterward if I knew him somehow (this was my first time meeting Phil). My whole family had a great time and if/when we’re back in Clearwater Beach, we’ll be booking with him again!

Wow! Captain Phil was professional, courteous, & friendly. We couldn’t stop catching trout, but catching the bonnet head shark was a real highlight!

We had a great time on our fishing charter, it was very very cold but we still managed to catch plenty of fish and my wife enjoyed catching her favorite fish to eat, sheepshead, we also got some good eating snapper.

Perfect day out on the water. Caught a ton of fish!!! Capt. Phil was awesome!!! Definitely will be back with the family next spring!!!

Captain Phil ensured both of my young children (7 and 9) had fun and caught lots of fish. He also took care of my parents and even broke my longstanding fishing curse.

We went on this half day trip with two other couples and had a blast ! We caught lots of smaller fish and capped off a perfect day with three perfect red fish catches for the guys! Captain Phil is such a great guy and we enjoyed every minute! Don’t waste your time going on a boat with 65 other fishermen when you can spend the day with Captain Phil getting personal attention, having great conversation, and catch big fish!

I wanted to do a fishing charter on a recent trip to Clearwater. I did some research and found that there was a bait shop close to my resort just off Belair. I picked up a few cards of local charters. I did a little more research back at the hotel and decided to contact Captain Phil at Sliprock Charters. He sounded professional and directed me to his website to find a time slot that worked for me. It was easy and I was able to make a reservation on line with a credit card.
We met Phil at the Belair Bait Shop. Buy a fishing shirt while you are there. They have a great selection and they are cool and comfortable and keep you from getting burned.
Phil asked us what we were hoping for from our trip. He offered to catch fish that we could eat. He is well connected to many resturauntsis the area and said we could have our catch cooked and served to us at a choice of restaurants.
We were on the last day of our vacation. We did not have any interest in catching something to eat. I asked them to show us a good time. They delivered.
By not having to worry about catching a meal for us, they were free to go after BIG fish...Tarpon, Big Snook, etc. We first went after Tarpon. They had a spot in mind. We arrived and found a crazy amount of bait fish. We were fishing for less than 20 minutes when we hooked a huge tarpon. It jumped 4-5 time before a violent thrust that allowed it to get free.
Next we went for "big" snook. They had another spot and few miles away. Wishing 15 minutes we had 2 fish on. They were monsters. We got them to the boat. Phil's friend Frank, who is a professional photographer offered to take us ashore for pictures! We got some great shots.
We then trolled for another large fish unsuccessfully however we had fun. Last we went inshore for some smaller Redfish and Snook. We caught both and had an amazing time.
Captain Phil is very professional and has a nice clean boat with the latest electronics and high quality gear. Coolers were offered to store our drinks.
Thanks to Phil and Frank for a day we will not forget.
