- 809FrankC8090 contributionsSee Manatee in their natural habitatKayak Excursions- Bunche Beach Do you want to see Manatees up close and in their natural habitat? Then you must book a tour with Kayak Excursions! Our guide Chase, knew right where to go to find these gentle giants (they are huge in real life). Our fist sighting was in San Carlos bay then we made our way through the mangrove to a quite little area where we exited our kayaks and waded in the warm shallow water the Manatee so enjoy. Once back in our boats we floated among them as they poked their heads up out of the water curious as to what we were. My wife got an excellent picture of a particularly large one looking at her as it came partially out of the water as if it were going to join her in the kayak. You just have to give Kayak Excursions a try.Written 13 September 2024
- LizM5230 contributionsMUST DO ADVENTURE!!We thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking adventure! The mangrove tunnel was one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen and Bunche beach was beautiful. Kayaking on the ocean was both beautiful and relaxing, but also quite exerting! It was a good workout being the sole paddler for me and my 10 year old! Emily was so friendly, engaging, and informative! She was highly knowledgeable of the plant and animal life! She was kind enough to take several photos of us in the tunnel which we can’t wait to see! After a flip flop losing snafu on our way out in the kayaks (apparently I’m the only person they have ever seen tip a kayak!), Caleb threw in a net three times in search of my lost flip flop while we went on our trip. HIGHLY recommend checking out kayaking adventures; it was a major highlight of our trip!Written 6 May 2024

- Passport182130321270 contributionsFun Family AdventureWe had a great time. We opted for 2 double kayaks, which was great for both steering and endurance (i.e. I could rest while my daughter paddled away). The 2.5-3 hour tour took us through a Mangrove into an open area where we saw a dolphin. We rested and ate snacks on the beach. Mike was our guide and he was terrific! The tour recommends bringing something to drink and a snack. I was very glad I listed because I used both. I probably should have worn more bug spray to keep the no-see-ums away. It was a great workout a great day in the sun and a fun family experience. I will definitely be back to go with them again.Written 14 March 2024

This was a wonderful experience from someone who has kayaked multiple times. However, if you have never kayaked before I would highly recommend the guided tour. We choose not to do the guided tour and found it quite challenging. The staff was helpful, gave us a map and explained where to go. There was a lot of wildlife to see in the mangroves. Would definitely do this again

The staff there were amazing! We were 7 of us. 2 couples had their own Kayaks and the 3 of us rented; One Single and 1 Tandem. When we got there to check in they could not find my reservation and I had brought my cell phone to show them my confirmation. I had inadvertently booked the Saturday instead of the Friday, 100% my error! The gentleman there arranged for my reservation to be changed. So very helpful and friendly! All was changed and off we went. It was an amazing experience, so very very cool! Will definitely do it again.

Rented 2 doubles for a self guided tour for our family of four. These guys have it down pat! A well designed map/ postcard that you get to keep as a souvenir that lays out your path in a "one way" directional but there are place you can hang out and explore/ search and play. We actually back tracked to an area that was large enough to accommodate several kayaks.. and so glad we did!!!! WE SAW MANATEES!!!!! They actually scared me to death.. they moved much faster than I realized could/ would!!!

too many kayaks, couldn't hear anything the guide was saying without bumping into
another paddle. it was a slog through the mangrove tunnel without seeing anything and then into a canal where we saw some manatee which was awesome. lastly out into San Carlos Bay which was another long paddle without seeing anything.
would not do it again

Thank you for your review Jeanne! We limit our guided tours to 12 people which we feel is a reasonable number. If we lower the number of people on each tour, we have to charge more. We do offer private tours if you prefer to not have others in the group with you, which sounds like it might have been a better experience for you. Either way, I apologize that you didn't enjoy the experience. -Stefan

We reserved two single kayaks for the hall day option the night before e wanted to go. We used the online option. It went very smoothly and they were expecting us at 9:30. The kayaks were open singles which was fine. They provided a printed map in a zip lock baggie and described a route that would take about 3 hours. They provided life jackets.
Our only disappointment was that the tide prevented us from going all the way thru the mangrove “tunnel”, and there was a bit of wind too paddle into…nothing they could have done about that!
A fun change from biking and birding!

Thank you for your review Donna! Yes, we wish we could have the right tides and weather all the time, but sometimes we just have to work around those. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us anyway, and hope you'll come see us again soon. In the future also feel free to call us and we'll be happy to advise the best times to go through the mangrove tunnel based on tides. -Stefan

We had an amazing time and are really grateful to the staff for helping make that happen. We rented the tandem kayak for 3 hours and with the directions and map provided got to explore and enjoy the mangroves and the beach. Wonderful family adventure for kids of any ‘seaworthy’ age.

We decided to try some Kayaking while we were visiting Bunche Beach and we had a pretty good time.
We were able to join a tour group and saw a manatee. The tour guide was good and it was an interesting float down the tunnel.
All and all it was a fun time but they need better markers for the way back. We paddled around the beach but had a difficult time finding the entrance back to drop off the kayaks. Definitely pay attention to the directions given
I would recommend this place but don't think we will do it again.
If I do go again we will definitely go with a guide.

Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed paddling with us! Unfortunately we're limited in what we can do as far as markers because the entire area is a nature preserve. We do provide detailed maps and instruction to help everyone find their way around. We'd love to see you on one of our guided tours next time you want to go kayaking. -Stefan

This will be remembered as one of our favorites! Great location, has both quiet kayak & paddle boarding through waterways, and then we went out to the ocean and rode some waves, found a sand bar to get out and walk through the ocean water! My perfect blend to get both experiences! I didn't want to tip over and Jason assured us our kayaks wouldn't tip - and I didn't have to worry about alligators or snakes because the ocean water comes in the waterways!

Had a great 3 hour self guided kayak trip out of Bunche Beach! Received a map and general route overview by friendly staff. Got a bit nervous wondering if we were lost in the mangrove tunnel but pressed on to the end! Took a swim break on the beach before heading back along the shore. Bring plenty of sunscreen & water.
