About
Located on San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine’s Uptown District, the Old Jail Museum offers an educational and intriguing look into what it would have been like to be a prisoner in the Nation’s Oldest City. Take a guided tour led by the “jailers” for a compelling look at the cells where imprisoned men and women once lived, the maximum security area reserved for the most nefarious criminals and a collection of weapons.

This is my second time visiting St. Augustine. We were not able to visit the Old Jail the first time, and I regretted it since August. Luckily, we were able to experience it this time. When we got there, I knew that I wanted to do the tour and the trolley. We got there at 10 and parked in the free parking lot (highly recommend doing this). Then, we bought the most popular combo ticket that included the Old Jail tour, history museum trolley, and the oldest store museum. The tour was AMAZING! We got so lucky with having Patrick as the guide. He really fits the atmosphere with his look (in a good way haha). He was so knowledgeable, answered questions, and FUNNY! He even included everyone in the different stories. If you can wait for his tour, I would highly recommend that. I would have given him a tip if I had cash. At the end of the tour, he even took my friend and I around and took a bunch of pictures of us and with us. The ticket includes the St. Augustine History Museum as well. We went through that museum after the tour, which really just tied in all the stories and provided more information from the tour. It takes 20-25 minutes and I would recommend just walking through it. Then, we took the trolley around St. Augustine. The trolley has 20+ stops with narration at every stop around the city. You can get on and off at the different stops to explore further. At the end of the day, we visited the Oldest Store Museum. To be honest, we only visited this spot because it was part of the ticket we had already bought. However, we were pleasantly surprised how much we enjoyed this tour. The entire warehouse has tons of antique items, their prices (which is shocking) and how they have evolved since the 1800s. Our guide was Orville and he was extremely funny and inclusive. He catered the information to what the group was interested in. It is the underrated and often overlooked part of the ticket package, but don't miss it! If you like history and good stories, I highly recommend it. Overall, do NOT miss this entire experience when you visit St. Augustine! It is AMAZING! Also, I recommend the Ghosts and Gravestones tour, but I won't load up this review with that information too :)

Our family was told over and over that the Jail tour was the #1 tour to do in the city. We had read MANY reviews on one tour guide in particular named Baballoo. We purchased our tickets and waited for his next tour. In the mean time of waiting for him we looked around and even went to the old store ! A must see. By the time the bell rang for the tour to begin we were all super excited to say the least. Babaloo was great. Bringing in our kids and making them really feel like we were in the picture. Unfortunately, at the end of our tour, Bablloo held back our family and continued to almost harass us with leaving him a review. Well, here’s your review. Please reconsider your whole entire tour as half of it did not make sense and yes, we enjoyed the parts we could understand, but at the same time we were tempted to get a refund. One part of the tour he started talking about the other museums on the property. If we wanted a tour through those other museums we would have taken them. We were very upset with our experience.

I wish I could give more stars but unfortunately one inmate had put a sour taste in our mouths. Yesterday my family of 4 visited the Old Jail which my kids were excited for all day. Our guides name was Babolew (I think I spelled that right). He started off great. Had my 2 young kids intrigued but half way through he started talking about none sense. He kept getting off topic and was even quite abrupt with our children through the rest of the tour. My husband and I were not impressed and had hoped to learn more history but instead he gave us one of his “business cards” and started telling nonsense jokes. The tour would have been a family favorite had it been given by the right guide. We went right back around and bought another round of tickets and went through another tour. Please give Patrick a raise as he gives the full effect tour.
