Chi-Town, Bean Town, the Windy City. We will be back!
Being a first time visitor to Chicago it was both informative and beautiful. The bus takes you to 12 or so attractions that are a must see while in Chicago.

Fine, if you don't mind waiting around in lines.
Sep 2021
The Big Bus Tour was great for touring the downtown area, especially if you sit in the open air section on top. The only problem we had was that the bus stops aren't always clearly marked where the line should begin. This wasn't really a problem until we wanted to board the bus at Navy Pier. We went to the bus stop and everyone kind of formed a loose line where we thought the bus stop should be. After waiting there for about 20 minutes, a Big Bus employee came over and said that we should form a line behind her. This resulted in people who had just gotten there rushing to the front of the line and those of us who had been waiting ending up further back. So after waiting approximately 30 minutes, the bus arrives and literally the couple in front of us are the last to board which meant that we had to wait another 40 minutes for the next bus to arrive. Not happy! I strongly suggest that Big Bus Tours put up sign clearly signifying where the line should begin so that people who have been waiting longest for the bus are the first to board. Next time, I'll just use Uber or a taxi.

Save your money
I’m not sure there was anything redeeming about this experience. Given that it was Marathon weekend, the traffic in the afternoon was atrocious which was not their fault. However, they did not do anything to communicate what the plan was and refused to let people off between stops. It took us an hour to get from the southern portion of Grant Park to the Wrigley Building. There was also no talking or Chicago history being given during this lengthy delay.

We were also very very disappointed with the information shared about Chicago while on the tour. One bus driver never even mentioned city hall when we passed it. The recorded portions of the tour were silly and I felt as if I was being treated like I had the attention span, interest and intellect of a six year old. We rode with a second bus driver, Ricardo, whose humor was used to mask the lack of details he knew. When he drove passed city hall, he did mention the building but then made a comment about the Mayor which indicated his disapproval of her. Something that should never happen on a tour with people from, potentially, all political persuasions.

First timer
The first bus driver was amazing, interacting and telling info of what we saw before us! We got off the bus and got into another. The only thing the bus driver said was what the stops were! Wish we would have gotten back on the same bus! The tour was a great way to see the city! Would have liked to see Wrigley Field!

Convenient tour
I’ve ridden on these buses in three different cities and I’m a fan. It is comforting to ride with other people on a tour especially when I travel alone. And the freedom of being able to get on and off at the stops you want makes it fun. I bought my ticket online and downloaded their app. Couldn’t figure out how to link my ticket to the app but the app was useful in getting descriptions of the different attractions. There is also an ‘if lost’ option which shows you where the nearest stop is. Another option is the route map with where the buses are in real time. I don’t know how good it was as it didn’t seem to work when I looked.
I showed up to the stop I picked without knowing what time the bus was coming. I had to leave according to his schedule so I was prepared to wait. The ticket agent scanned my ticket - which was sent via email - and printed out a paper ticket which I could show whenever I needed to board again. He also took a photo for me against an interesting backdrop on a nearby building. The bus came 5 minutes after I arrived which was super lucky for me. Masks are required when you go through the bus or in the enclosed seats but not if you sit up top.
There is narration and fun quizzes piped through the sound system. If people are conversing it makes it hard to hear so I made sure to check my map to keep track of stops. So much to see on both sides of the bus since the architecture of Chicago is interesting. I love the ornate sculpting on the buildings. My favorite is the Chicago Tribune building.
I got off at the Magnificent Mile / Water Tower stop to visit an old church and Bloomingdales which I saw from the bus. And then I got off at Portillo’s on a whim as some people were discussing their famous hot dogs and I needed lunch.
Didn’t want to wait for the bus to come round again so I walked and caught a ride share back to the hotel. It was a fun tour with favorable weather and friendly associates.

Our driver, Ricardo, was the bomb! So funny, great Chicago insights, repeated info so you didn’t miss your stop etc. I didn’t love the Big Bus process…they couldn’t accept our City Pass on the bus so we had to get on one to then get off to get a … paper ticket… in 2021…abs then wait in another bus to come…the poor ticket attendant had horrible service so it took forever to PRINT each one. Archaic. Thankfully Ricardo’s sunny attitude saved the day. Would recommend only if a gorgeous day and you’re in a patient mood.

Hop-On Hop-Off more fun with Anton
Sep 2021
Our gals' annual trip was to Chicago this year.
We used Big Bus Hop-On Hop-Off two days. The bus worked very well for us. We decided that we prefer the driver adding her/his comments along the way in addition to the recording which grew old after a time.
Shout out to Anton who seemed to truly enjoy his job. He was very informative and funny.

Bad Tour
Aug 2021
This was awful! The recorded audio was pumped out of the speakers at very high volume! I couldn't stand it. We bought 2 days worth but didn't use it the second day because of the terrible blaring speakers. Not only was it too loud, but Big Bus has tried to get cute and they play a recording of 2 people talking to each other making jokes and laughing. I ignored a lot of that silliness so then I would miss most of the serious descriptions on the town, which I don't remember being that often.
Additionally it's hop on hop off, but only at the stops they use. We could not get off/on at other locations. My partner was partially disabled so it was sometimes impossible to get to places we wanted to see. Fortunately, Chicago has a wonderful public transportation system and we used that for all our future touring.
Finally, they have a night time tour which I found to be essentially a repeat of the daytime tour. Not worth it!

Hello Al-Gini, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Good or bad, we appreciate the feedback so that we know where to improve. We apologize that you do not appreciate the recorded commentary and we are taking these comments in to consideration. Regarding only stopping at our stops, due to Chicago ordinance, we can only stop at our registered stops. It is against the law for us to stop any other place other than where we have been given permission to. We apologize for any inconvenience. We do hope you were able to enjoy Chicago and come back and give us another try. Warmest Regards, Cindy R Big Bus Team
