Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
    Stop: 2 hours
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

If you've never gone through a ride through the bayou and seen wild crocodiles, this is a truly unique experience. Our guide Kenny was very knowledgeable about the area and had a great dry wit that made the experience even more fun. Our boat was small and had just eight people for a more intimate experience

We had a great time in February but I would recommend going later in the year as the alligators are more active then

It was such a great experience .
It was a well organized place with a mini snack bar, souvenirs, and stand selling hurricanes, margaritas, and beer while you wait for your tour number to be called. I had a party of 10 and didn’t purchase transportation at the time of reservations which was 1 month beforehand and they were able to accommodate transportation 48 hours prior which was awesome with great communication. Our tour guide was hilarious, entertaining, insightful, and we seen more gators than we expected .

I highly recommend spending the extra money for the airboat vs the pontoon and the small group was perfect size! I'm horrible with names, I think our guide was named Jay, but he was one of the best tour guides we've ever had. He was the perfect mix of education, jokes, and genuine love for what he does. Not only did we see several gators, but he stopped a few times to teach us about the swamp and answer questions. This was the best part of our New Orleans trip and we're definitely booking again whenever we're back down there.

We signed up for the large airboat adventure after having done a smaller tour years ago with another company that wasn't as close to New Orleans as this one. The company and crew were very professional and handled things well, although we had trouble hearing the guide over the wind and other noises. We saw two or three gators and a little bit of wildlife, and the tour did not last two hours, barely over 1.5 hours.

In short, the tour is fun if you've never taken an airboat ride before, but I'd much prefer a small boat trip on a narrower set of waterways deeper in the swamps, even if it costs more. You'll see and learn more, especially if you have a good guide. And the ride feels much wilder and more fun!

Airboat Adventures advertises a 2 hour tour, mine was an hour and 15 mins. They canceled my airboat ride and put me on a pontoon but then all of the airboats at 2pm went out. I was lied to and will be going to Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours from now on. Airboat adventures stinks.

This place has terrible customer service. I paid for the private boat tour for a group of friends and the additional pickup ($553 paid a month in advance), where they are supposed to pick you up at your hotel.

The day before our tour, they sent a text message saying due to Mardi Gras closures, they had to change the pickup location to another hotel that was over a mile away. I didn't see the message due to me traveling at that time.

The driver calls me as we are waiting downstairs at our hotel at the pickup time and says he doesn't see us. Well, he's at a completely different hotel. I asked if he could wait 10 minutes and we would run to the hotel. He said no, that he had other pickups. So we missed the tour.

I was pretty peeved as I had booked the tour a month in advance and the schedule for the Mardi Gras parades is known well in advance. So they weren't able to put that together until less than 24 hours in advance. Poor planning.

I called the main office and asked if we could get a partial refund, I would have been happy with half since it was my fault I didn't catch the text message the day before. No refunds at all, no exceptions. I asked if I could get a rebook within 12 months. They offered to rebook me, but I had to pick the exact day and time in the future and couldn't move that tour, which is absurd. I have no idea if and when I'm going to be back in New Orleans, but the option to revisit within 12 months would have been at least something.

I don't like giving 1 star reviews as you might notice from my profile, I usually am very fair. But this place wouldn't budge an inch.

Our group of 5 people took the small airboat tour and we all loved it! Our guide, Steve, was a local and he shared story after story about the bayou and its people. He also knew exactly where to find the biggest alligators, and we got close up to many of them. The bayou itself is beautiful with all of the waterways, trees, moss, grasses, and wildlife. The 4 pm tour was really good in terms of lighting and we lucked out with the mild, dry weather. Steve explained how the area was impacted recently by Hurricane Ida, and we were amazed how easily he adapted the tour to the new terrain. The boat ride was very smooth and comfortable, even at high speeds. The area where you check in is super convenient with lots of parking, a gift shop, and restrooms.

Corrie was our captain; he was hilarious & did an awesome job of getting us close to 8+ gators and 2 turtles for great pics. I highly recommend booking an airboat tour rather than 1 of the bigger boats. The airboats allow for you to get closer to the gators, and they can go faster. Must do activity, especially if you have kids that want to see gators.

We opted for the hotel pick up option and it was well worth it. Monty, our bus driver delivered us safely and speedily while offering up some interesting facts along the way with his smooth, buttery, radio worthy voice.
When we arrived at Airboat Adventures the check in was quick and easy. Be sure to say hi to Sugar, the albino alligator before heading out to the dock. I guess Monty did too good of a job getting us there as we did have a fairly long waite while other busses were still arriving. Once all the parties arrived it was time to split everyone into their respective groups and assigned tour craft.
It was at this point we got to meet our boat captains. A lot of these reviews like to mention their captains and mine won't be any different. Captain Kenny was very knowledgeable as he grew up in the area. He also had a quick wit and great sense of humor that made our interactions all the more enjoyable.
He got us loaded up and briefed on what to expect and then it was off to the races. To say the airboat is loud is an understatement, even with the provided hearing protection. You feel it even more than you hear it, and it feels amazing! Skimming along the surface of the water flat out is an experience I will never forget.
Kenny took us into the swamp an down several channels. It was beautiful. After just a little while even the engine noise fades away and you just feel yourself in nature. We did see several gators, I mean American Alligators and fed them marshmallows. Because, you know, alligator's love marshmallows!
From the swamp we transitioned into marshland. Here Kenny shut the boat down and we had a prolonged question and answer period and absolutely nothing else happened. *wink* Turns out we were all having so much fun we lost track of time and were late getting back to the dock. I absolutely loved my experience at Airboat Adventures would recommend not only the airboat ride but also Captain Kenny. I'm also thankful he didn't throw me off the boat, even if I might have deserved it!!!

Marcus was the Gator Whisperer and called out to the alligators with his Cajun and fed them with marshmallows! They came right up to the boat. He taught us about alligators as he talked to them like favorite pets. I loved it!!! He took us on a tour of the swamp and talked about the land, the cemetery, the birds and the lasting environmental effects of hurricanes.

To ride an airboat has been on my personal bucket list and Marcus did not disappoint. It was a wonderful way to see Lafitte, Louisiana and step away from Bourbon street. Honestly it was the highlight of our trip.

I would most definitely recommend you make time to go. Bring sunscreen and something to tie back your hair. If you have sensitive ears I would recommend bringing ear plugs to add additional hearing protection to the over-the-head ear muffs they provide.
